Don’t stop here. Overpriced, terrible BBQ. I think they must use a gas BBQ pit, because the meat has no flavor. The brisket is very dry and the sausage is mealy. The Cole slaw is pretty good, but I think they get it from KFC… thank goodness. No telling how bad they could screw up cabbage and dressing!!! Go on down to Billy’s if you want decent BBQ. This place seems more like a northern version of BBQ.

Have eaten at Dickies years ago in Arlington and remembered it was pretty good, there are so many excellent places here that aren’t chains, I haven’t given the local one a shot but it was Friday evening, had a coupon and so hubby and I have it a shot and were pleasantly surprised. Both of us had BBQ sandwich plates, he had chopped beef which is actually chopped when you order it and cole slaw and potato salad, both were good but really prefer some chunks of potatoes and not sure how they get the orange color. I got the turkey sandwich which had both white and dark meat and very moist which I like, I ordered the potato casserole and jalapeño beans which were not my favorite, will go with different sides next time but hey, live and learn. Unfortunately, the soft serve machine was not working so didn’t get a chance to try that, perhaps next time. They do have daily specials which looked good.

First the chopped beef sandwich was on point, but the SERVICE is first class. Two sweet young men made a whole pot of coffee just for me. Gentlemen, you are what Texas stands for!

My decision to eat at Dickey’s BBQ was not made under the best of circumstances. I’d been out hiking for several hours at Lost Pines state park, I was hungry, tired, sunburned and hot. I had wanted to go someplace else, but after driving over there they turned out to be closed. So here I am, exhausted, burning up, starving and most importantly parked right in front of Dickey’s Barbecue Pit. Right as I walked in I realized it looked like a chain restaurant and I can’t think of a time I’ve ever had good BBQ from a chain. I ordered the brisket and the jalapeño and cheese sausage. It’s hard to say when you’ve had something that was the best or the worst. But I can tell you that the brisket was the driest I’ve ever had. Hands down, no question, the driest. I had to soak it in sauce, and that didn’t help much. The sides are all pretty forgettable and come straight out of big cans in the back. The sausage didn’t seem to be all that warm. Over all, I knew I probably wasn’t going to enjoy this place as I walked in the door, and that turned out to be the case. Be warned fellow traveler and keep moving on to better BBQ destinations!

6:15pm on Wednesday, July 9th. The young woman working the counter tonight is rude. Asked a question about a menu I to mean. All she did was parrot«for here or to go» each time I asked my question. Yes, I spoke clearly. For some reason she just plain ignored me. Bad day? Hungover? Don’t care. This kind of customer service is unacceptable. By the way, the food was OK. Not good, just OK. BBQ was way too dry. There is better BBQ to be had in Bastrop. Wonder if I will give this place a second chance.

First of all, let it be noted — I am in no way anything close to a vegan/vegetarian. But I weep for the animals that had to die in order to create the atrocity that Dickey’s refers to as barbecue. This food isn’t prepared by someone who wakes up and loves their job and the art of cooking. This has to be food prepared by someone who hates their job and hates you, the customer, for making them do their job. At their price point vs our other local BBQ places, this meat should not be selling. Fittie’s, Benny’s, and dare I say it… even Billy’s. All better quality for lower price I guess my first clue should have been when I walked in to the restaurant @ 12:20 P.M.(prime lunch time) and there was only one other table seated. This is especially telling because, on the day I went which was a Tuesday, the only other barbecue place in town that is nearby is closed. They were the sole supplier of BBQ open that day in close proximity to Bastrop… and one table was taken. Should have drove on down 71 to Fitties =( I was with one other person and between us we had three meats. Pulled pork — Dry, tasted like pork roast made in an oven. No seasoning, flavorless bark. Chewy Brisket — Tender but… flavorless bark, no smoke ring, no seasoning to speak of. May as well have been eating tofu with beef stock… that may be too generous, the stock would have added seasoning to the tofu which is more than I can say for this meat. «Smoked» Honey ham — No hint of sweetness whatsoever, dry, visually unappealing, no «smoked flavor» to speak of. Tasted like eating larger slices of packaged ham that you get at the store. if dry ham and salt flavor is your thing, this is for you. By the time I walked out of their restaurant, my clothes smelled more«Smoked» than any of the cardboard they served. I think the restaurant just pumps that smell in there to fool you. If they want to go for«less is more» on the seasoning, then they need to be using prime cuts of meat that can back that up. These clearly were not. The only thing that this meat is good for is being some flavorless vehicle for you to get BBQ sauce into your mouth with. As boring/generic as their sauce selection is, it’s the only thing in nearby proximity that has any hope of making the meat palatable. Owner’s, if you are reading this — Please drive down to Lockhart. Go to Kreuz, or Smitty’s or Black’s… mmmm Black’s. This is what meat should taste like. Meat so good that people laugh at the thought of ruining it with sauce. The mockery of BBQ that this place perpetrates should not be allowed to stand in Texas, especially this close to other amazing choices. Also, I know that this is a chain restaurant. But I am NOT giving it any slack. Rudy’s is a chain, and they make passable Q’. Fogo de Chao is a chain and though it may be Brazillian BBQ, it’s still delicious.

Absolutely disgusting! I knew it was a chain, but being new to area, hubby wanted to try anyway. Brisket was dry, over cooked and nasty. All of the sides tasted like they had just been scooped out of a #10 can. Don’t need to comment any further, just plain BAD.

We go often. Pulled pork sandwich is great. Bun is not ordinary but fresh, tender and makes the sandwich. Add your own sauce mild or not and enjoy. Only complaint is they are often out of ribs so if that is what you want call them.

Dickey’s is a chain… so it’s what I expected. Ribs okay… brisket was dry… chicken breast was moist and tasty. The sides were good and the rolls are awesome. It was fast and easy.

«This is not BBQ»… but seriously, this was pretty gross. The ribs tasted kinda old and the brisket was super dry and bland. Sorry, will not be getting seconds.

Eh, this would fly up north but this is texas. There are better options even in bastrop. Was way overpriced. Problem is they don’t have a real smoker.

Look this is a chain, right? And this is hardcore BBQ land, so can’t give it more than 3 stars no matter what they do. That said. Clean, tasty and fresh. If I was looking for a fast BBQ meal — this is the place. I happen to like their big yellow cups too!

Great new location. I have eaten at several of the stores. This one is really nice. Good team. Thanks Max for a great meal. Get the sliced brisket with the SAUCE.
