Came here for the first time and LOVEDIT. We are always trying new places and the salty caramel pretzel was the best. It was full of flavor and the small shop was adorable. Will go back again!

Just a short walk from work to here! Such a cute place and the girls that work there are always nice and friendly. The cappuccino chip, birthday cake and orange cream are some of the best flavors in my opinion. A little expensive but what else can you expect from ridge

Wow. I just had one of the best cones of ice cream EVER. We decided to come here for a little treat between brunch and dinner. I tried so many different flavors before settling on the two that made up my medium sized cone. I chose a waffle cone with 3 scoops split between 2 flavors– blueberry cheesecake and cookies n cream. The cookies n cream was like no other cookies n cream ice cream I had ever had before. I don’t know how to explain the complexity of the flavors, but just know that it was awesome! The blueberry cheesecake was by far my favorite! I’d have to say this flavor was the best incorporation of cheesecake mixed in ice cream that I have ever had. So good! We ordered two medium sized waffle cones(3 scoops each) for just over $ 10, this included the $ 1 extra per waffle cone. Not bad for specialty ice cream!

I’m a huge ice cream lover and will drive to the ends of the universe for a good scoop. That being said, I grew up in Basking Ridge and would have loved to have a place in town that was easy to walk or bike to with great ice cream, but after a few trips to Ava’s I don’t think this is the one. The ice cream flavors they offer are pretty standard and don’t have much flavor. The cones sometimes taste stale. The building itself it very cute and its location just on the outskirts of the center of town is perfect, but they just didn’t hit the mark in terms of taste.

This place brings back so many memories whenever I come here in the Summer. Back when I used to go to Oak Street, my friends and I would stop here sometimes and grab a sundae. I would definitely choose Ava’s any day over Dairy Queen in Bernardsville. It’s also half the price of DQ.

i came for the ice cream not the staff. i had the raspberry chocolate ice cream and it was really good. the taste really exploded out of it, and the chocolate was a nice touch. i would go back to have more… :) there is no indoor seating so plan to stand outside… there really aren’t a lot of chairs out there although there is a bit of lawn. several reviews have mentioned that the staff is not very good, when i went, if you added all the ages of the kids in there serving, you probably wouldn’t have totaled thirty. that being said, i didn’t expect much from them.

Not convinced the ice cream here is actually«home made». Well, if it is, it isn’t fresh and from scratch. The pistachio with no nuts might be revealing of that. Tasted too artificial, with no real pistachio goodness. Not salty-sweet, which a good pistachio should be, instead it was extremely sweet and bland. The shop seemed like a great place, inside and especially outside — with all the available outdoor seating. I think I just expected a bit more out of a place that boasts«home made» ice cream. Note to self: ALWAYS ask for a sample first.

Little girl turned me away at 9:35 saying they were closed(when I was staring at the sign in front of me saying they close at 10)…and this was on a Saturday night …maybe Ill stop in again just to give them a shot(even though they did send me to Penguin which to my suprise carried Gifford Ice Cream. So good)

Very nice to run into ice cream made in the shop. A nice selection of flavors and a friendly and helpful staff. We’ve been for cones several times with good results, but today I went for a very thick milkshake — the problem was they did it in a blender. You really need to use a small high speed impeller to make a shake silky smooth and it was just so-so. But we’ll be back for cones and other treats as the Summer wears on. The prices are very reasonable — less than most of the other shops. recommended! I’ll be sending friends there.

I have passed this so many times and because of the reviews I finally stopped in(despite the diet!) This is truly a hidden gem!

5 stars since it’s the only homemade ice cream place! Highly recommend the Cookie Do-Reo: Cookie Dough with Oreo in one word, AWESOME! Cake batter crunch is a must with additional rainbow sprinkles/jimmies! Strawberry is good… but not as good as other homemade strawberry ice-cream made with fresh strawberries. Would go back to try other flavors plus the young ladies that work there were very nice and friendly.

Ava’s is a hidden gem of Basking Ridge and the surrounding areas, for sure. Open until 12−10pm M-Sat and 12−9pm on Sundays, it’s one of the only places open that late in this area. My kids love the constantly changing flavors, and I love the prices. Cheaper than the nearby Penguin ice cream or Dairy Queen. Great portion sizes, too and the staff is always friendly and willing to help you pick out what you’d like to get. The cookie sandwiches are a deal for only $ 2. It’s a hang out for teens and for families. Just a nice place all-around to go for a sweet treat.

I have lived in Basking Ridge for 3+ years and finally got to this place. To start, the address on Unilocal is correct but if you look at the map, Unilocal has it on the wrong side of Henry St. That part of the street is a 1-way so it is a little tricky to get to. When you find it, you will know. Ava’s is a purple house with ice cream pictures on it — pretty cool, I thought. I had a cup of the chocolate caramel fudge brownie hard ice cream. It was some really good, homemade hard ice cream. I was impressed. My wife had a soft serve cone and she liked hers, too. I also saw that they make ice cream sandwiches — the girl said a scoop of ice cream in between 2 cookies. That is what I will probably try on my next visit. The place is also pretty cheap, too. This will probably be our new go to ice cream spot considering it is so close.

This might be the best ice cream I have ever had! Gabby makes it all fresh on site, and she is amazing! Try her Cookie Do-Reo ice cream(a mix of Cookie Dough and Oreo flavors). The only thing better than the name is the taste. I sampled a bunch of other flavors, and they are equally awesome. They serve out of a cool little shack with lots of outdoor seating, and stay open till 10 most weeknights and 11 on weekends, which is rare for the ‘burbs.
