MDI Imported Car Service

This place is one the BEST auto repair shops I have been to. Called MDI up the day after memorial day. My girlfriends car/​steering wheel was shaking when she went over 60mph. Initially, I dismissed the problem as a common old car problem. However, once I drove the car I realized it needed to be looked at before we left Acadia to drive 8 hours home. We didn’t expect to find a place which could check out the problem in time but luckily Dave, who owns MDI, was able to help us out. He told us to bring the car in and he would have a look at it. Turns out it was a minor problem which another car repair place had been unable to correct prior to our vacation. I hadn’t driven the car at this point so I didn’t think it was a big deal to take the car up to Maine. Once we arrived we were greeted by Dave who was nice and professional. The car was looked at and fixed within an hour. MDI is a lifesaver! If I ever need car repairs in this area again, I know where to go. The cost was roughly $ 100, I don’t remember the exact amount but it seemed like a great deal! We also had great conversation with Dave about the current state of healthcare system in the US and politics. Overall, great experience.

Can you say AWESOME?!! We highly recommend MDI to anyone on need of auto repair. While enjoying our vacation, the radiator in our car developed a small crack. We drove to MDI, they ordered a radiator immediately and us back out enjoying our trip in a short amount of time. If you ever need a reliable, competent business go to MDI!

I’m afraid of sounding like the other reviews – we were vacationing in Bar Harbor when the car decided to break down (running very rough) on Memorial Day. Of course nothing was open and we had no idea where to get a BMW repaired anyway. I found MDI Imported Car Service on Unilocal so off we went to see where they were, then went back to our cottage to wait for opening time the next day.
We arrived just as Jason was opening and he immediately read the code on the car, said what he thought was wrong, verified it with a simple test and went inside to try to track down the needed coil. He found the part and said he would have it in the afternoon and that we could drive the car back, but not to push it. Around 1 PM he called and said bring the car back. It was fixed quickly once we arrived. The car is running perfectly now, Jason was unbelievably helpful and nice, David was there in the afternoon and amused us while we waited.
I immediately recommended MDI to our landlady for her car, as she spends 6 months at a time in Bar Harbor. The price was fair, the service excellent and I might consider planning for my annual service here the next time we come up.

Context: I called them at 1 on a Friday under duress because I needed to leave at 7 AM Friday to get a friend back to Logan airport in Boston in time for her flight. One of my wheels was making the most unholy sound a car wheel has ever made and another shop in town told me that my rear break pads had worn down via a quick glance. Said shop said they couldn’t help me because they had too much scheduled that day and, even if they didn’t, there was no way they could get the parts in time. Panic.
I called MDI Imported Car Service and they couldn’t have been more amenable. They checked for the parts, had them, and said they could have it done that afternoon! Hooray! In the end, they found that my break pads were actually fine (Suck it, in town guy!) and, as my wholly unprofessional ear had suspected, there was a stone lodged in my FRONT wheel. They gave me the stone, didn’t try to shyster me out of any more money, and I got out of there for well under $ 100 when I was expecting much more damage.
Bonus: It’s only 1.5 miles down the road from the Atlantic Brewing Company, so I took a walk and a brewery tour while my car was being serviced.

Summering in Bar Harbor, Me., 8 hours away from my Porsche Dealer in NY. Wife locates MDI Imported Car Service on line. Thumping sound until her seat when I accelerated up any hill on the Island was frightening… read the only 3 reviews, 2 from 2012, last one is August 2013 and is most encouraging. Monday morning Dave says bring it over, if a lift is free when you get here, we’ll take a look at it. Free lift, inspection reveals big repair Con drive shaft required, parts not in stock. Couple of phone calls, locate complete assembly in Calif. I ask him how much to overnight part, pay the extra $ 80 to do so. Dave and Jason are leaving Thursday night for big fishing Labor Day Weekend, schedules me for next week cause this week’s schedule is already fixed. In Dentist’s office to replace bridge that fell out of my head Sunday night, tough weekend, cell rings, it’s Dave, it’s done. Part came in, he and Jason said what the hell, and just did it. $ 500 less than dealer ball parked repair for me. Brought a case of «Long Trail’s Double Bag «thank you for the fishing trip. Amazing men, wonderful to talk to about what needed to be done, showed me the trouble when the car was up, and the finished repair. I couldn’t be happier, all within 27 hours.
I highly recommend these gentlemen for any job you have!

I can’t say enough nice things about this place. We had to replace our radiator on a trip to Maine, and the shop that did the work was horrible… they didn’t clamp a hose back on to the engine (and broke off our transmission dipstick but didn’t bother to tell us, among other things). As a result, the car kept stalling out, and we limped into Mt Desert Island.
Jason diagnosed the problem over the phone just from my description, and was so nice and professional. He had us ready to go in under half an hour, and the price was so reasonable. I really felt that he cared, and it was so refreshing to find such an honest, reputable shop. I can’t recommend this place highly enough.
