We were looking for a pet friendly, reasonably priced hotel at the last minute. The staff was very nice. Our room was simple but everything we needed. There was even a roll away bed in our room that my 6 year old son loved. They allowed us to park our car there the next day(even though we had checked out) and provided us with a list of pet friendly restaurants in town.

The front desk clerk was friendly and accommodating. Plus she gave us a discount since we checked in late. We initially got a 1st floor room, but I read the reviews and asked for a 2nd floor room. The rooms were good: mattresses were newer, room was clean and didn’t have any odor. This is a great motel if you consider the price and location. We walked to downtown in a few minutes. We didn’t experience any noise, but it was a slow Memorial Day weekend so we didn’t have a lot of neighbors.

I did not stay at the Anchorage, but beware if and when booking. I made a reservation several weeks prior to a 2-night stay to photograph nearby Acadia National Park. I was advised by the employee they do not issue e-mail confirmations, nor confirmation numbers, but a verbal on the phone would hold the room together with my credit card. I was advised it was not refundable if not cancelled at least 4 days prior. Several days later I was forced to delay my visit by a week, so re-booked for 7 days later and was advised no problem. This time I was provided a verbal confirmation number. Six days prior to my planned stay, it was confirmed the Acadia National park was closed due to the Govt shutdown. I immediately phoned the Anchorage to cancel and was advised there was a one night charge of $ 117 whether I stayed or not, as I had cancelled(re-scheduled) once before. I protested I had never received a warning verbally or in writing of this new condition and was forced to cancel for a reason beyond my control. She replied they do send out e-mails, that I was told of the charge if re-scheduled a second time, and she did not know which credit card I had used. However, when I phoned AMEX a few minutes later they confirmed they had just received a charge of $ 117 against my account. I have stayed at many, many hotels in my 70 years, but none replete with such bald lies and denials in an unreasonable attempt to milk a planned guest. AMEX has subsequently confirmed they will refuse the charge and I did advise Anchorage neither I nor other friends who will be visiting Bar Harbor would ever contact them. Beware!

If you want a good night rest and your choice is here or in your car, then choose your car. The beds have got to be one of the oldest things in this hotel and the sheets feel like paper. The pillows are just as bad. You put your head on them and your just laying on the mattress. My neck is so sore from«sleeping» here. I saw on other reviews you have to stay on the 2nd floor so you don’t hear footsteps. Let me explain that even on the second floor when someone walks by it sounds like they are walking around in your room. So it does not matter even on the second floor. The air conditioning unit was so old and vibrating apart that I had to turn it off so that it didn’t break and fall apart. Also the noise was so loud I don’t know how they expect you to sleep with it on. Rooms look original and I am not sure how old this place is but lets just say surely not even close to being renovated or updated. Had to move tables and lamps to find an outlet to charge my phone. Would have been nice to have at least one free outlet in the place but I had to move the nightstand and unplug the lamp. The other tables were too heavy to move easily. The only reason I am giving 2 stars is due to its location. For that reason and that reason alone it got an extra star. If I were to do this again I would sleep in my car in this hotel parking lot.

I agree with another reviewer in saying that this motel is actually 3.5 stars but I am rounding up because the staff was so friendly and helpful. We booked this motel through Priceline and it was extremely affordable. We originally were going to go camping but saw the weather report and decided to find something a little more water resistant than our tent. I will start with the pros: *Affordable! We wouldn’t have been able to afford to travel without this very reasonably priced room. *Very friendly and helpful staff. At check in the woman at the desk did not realize we were bringing our children. When we explained to her that the booking did not allow us to put in for our children she quickly without attitude moved us to another room on the bottom floor. The staff were always available to answer questions or concerns and knew the area well which was helpful because this was our first time there. *LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION *Very clean, fresh towels were there every time we needed, bedding was clean. Cons: *Tiny bit musty but when we ran the air condition it cleared up quickly *Bedding needs updating, the mattresses wasn’t the most comfortable and the sheets were a bit too thin for my liking. *Rooms need some refreshing(paint, updating, and such) *You can hear every foot step if you are on the lower level(not such a con for me because with two kids I was just glad someone was louder than us). All and all I would go back in a heartbeat. I am a bit more picky so the cons may not even be a big deal to someone else. Friendly staff, great location and affordable!

More like 3.5 stars. Stayed here last weekend(late June) and it was absolutely fine. it’s not a 5-star, but it’s definitely do-able. Very close to the center of town(walking distance), but not in the congested middle of everything. Parking is VERY limited, so you might have to make your own spot if you arrive after everybody else. And yes, the walls are thin and the floors creak over your heads and the sheets aren’t fitted, but the price is reasonable for a decent place to stay.(although they should open the windows during ‘down time’ to air the rooms out — a little musty smelling, but c’mon, nothing’s perfect!) They provided soap, but no shampoo/conditioner — bring your own(there are blow-dryers on the wall) Clean and comfy — the staff is very friendly and accommodating. I would stay here again. PS — we decided to arrive a day early, but we were coming in after the office would be closed(which was @ 11PM — we probably weren’t going to get in until around 2AM) — I called before 11PM to ask if we could arrive later on and they said ‘no problem’, told me what room we’d be in, and left the door open for us — we just checked in at the office the next day — no problems at all — VERY accommodating :)

If you stay here make sure to book a room upstairs as below is noisy and walls are paper thin. Also, bring your own fitted sheets as they use flat sheets and they are not big enough to tuck in. The maid said they«have no fitted sheets». Felt more like a college dorm to me. But if you have dogs it’s one of the very few options.

Found a great deal online and was one of the places that was pet friendly. Upon arrival, the manager gave me a map and pointed out some spots around town. This motel is super close to the main strip of bar harbor, but is definitely a motel for the price conscience traveller. This clean motel was exactly what I was looking for.

Great location. It’s only a couple of block walk to the restaurants, shops and Acadia shuttle. Clean. One of the less expensive places in town. Old furniture. It’s been awhile since they have updated this place. This is not a deluxe hotel. I would go back.
