Looks a little dingy inside, but the food is great! I got a tea and a platter of 5 sides. It felt weird ordering Indian food from what looked like a cupcake counter, but it came out fast and was delicious! The porch is a really nice place to eat in the summertime, as inside can be a bit dark and stuffy(it’s a converted rowhome).

Just had a very negative experience here. We were really excited to check out their vegan cake options, and came by for a tasting after calling first. The three options were less than mediocre. All had the same bland chocolate base, and same bland overly runny chocolate icing Also, we were treated very strangely, and then were charged for the cake tasting when this was not communicated to us up front. I am giving two stars instead of 1 because at least they carry a vegan option and I appreciate that. I can’t grant any more stars because of the poor service and poor quality. Glad we found harmony bakery less than 5 minutes away in Hamden. That place is 5 stars and the sampling was absolutely delicious, incredible customer service

We spent a wonderful Thanksgiving at Sweet 27 and I’ve been back. While the restaurant’s décor is a bit on the dark side, the food is absolutely delicious — including their vegan pizza! — and there are plenty of options for people with allergies and restrictions. I very much enjoyed their cupcakes as well :)

Sweet 27’s name is slightly misleading, because not only does it offer stellar gluten-free baked goods, but it also has delicious food! Many of the menu items have an Indian/South Asian flare. I’ve had the vada pao(like a vegetarian Indian burger typically served as street food), the goat curry, chana masala, and Thai chicken soup. All the dishes were extremely flavorful. The atmosphere is very relaxed, just a few tables and such. Parking is quite easy around here too. The service was friendly and helpful. Make sure to check out more than just the bakery!

My buddy from DC found out a few months ago he couldn’t eat a lot of gluten, so when he came up we visited here. He would order something, eat it, and then order something else and then left with about another 5 entrees to go. I had breakfast burritos that were great. If you’re a gluten free person, there’s a chance you may never leave. If you pound beer and bread like nobody’s business, you’ll still love this place. It’s an amazing restaurant and then it just so happens to also be gluten free.

Best veggie tacos ever… If you are craving gluten free pizza try it here much better than most placing as they make their own crust;). Vegan Cupcakes are best with hot tea or coffee. We will be back;)

Small, apparently family owned(?) restaurant. Was NOT expecting options for Indian food. Definitely was not expecting as many vegan options as they had. They have a ton of options for whatever you’re in the mood for, but I wasn’t the biggest fan. I had the salad with buffala cheese. I do not recommend it! Not really filling and not that great, in my opinion. The pizza was better but very oily — probably the best thing we ordered. My aunt got an orange tofu dish. God knows why. She seemed to like it, but definitely not my style, as it was lathered in the sauce. Friend and I got a cupcake. It was just okay — not bad, not great either. Overall, would probably not go back. If I were to go back, however, I would probably try an Indian dish instead.

Delicious food. Nice atmosphere. Poor communication with reservations. I had the duck curry. It was fantastic, although the chicken tacos were sub-par. I don’t recommend for large parties.

I live in the neighborhood and want to patronize local businesses as much as possible. I have tried this place for the last time. It’s become more and more expensive. The quality of the food continues to decline. The place is dirty, and the service is terrible. Tonight I ordered the plantains; they were cold, hard, dry and bland. The beans were clearly canned and very salty. The woman who took my order decided it was more important to take a call while she was in the process of taking my order. After waiting several minutes, she finished my order but picked up the phone to make a call before handing me my receipts. What a piece of work! Avoid this place! It’s not worth the expense. Go to the other restaurants in the neighborhood … they’re worth it and deserve your business. Sweet 27 does not.

This place is horrible. They have so many great looking cupcakes, how can a person even decide which ones to get… I somehow made a choice, don’t even remember which ones, but I ate them til they were gone and now I need more. Don’t eat here unless you intend to become a regular.

Meh… it’s just meh. Poorly seasoned food, overpriced, dismal service, meh interior. I went yesterday with a friend and we got the tofu bites w/mango bbq for an appetizer, duck curry($ 16) and a potato chickpea burger($ 12). The tofu bites were way too spicy and just didn’t blend well with the mango bbq. The duck curry was tasty but I feel it was pretty overpriced compared to similar dishes in the area. The potato chickpea burger on the other hand was just bland — the patty and bread tasted like nothing. The only redeeming quality was the fries in chickpea batter on the side, *that* was good. I felt the service was pretty bad — we had a grumpy lady working the cash register that kept pushing us to buy drinks and cupcakes. OKOK I’ll buy two cupcakes — they were pretty good I’d have to say(gluten-free too). My pet peeve is when I can perceive a waiter or waitress give us a look of disdain when we opt for«just two waters please.» Finally, I love hole in the wall places. I mean, I even love food trucks without an interior at all. It was just that this place was so dingy with some weird mural paintings on the walls, compounded with all the other negative points, that I ended up just not feeling comfortable. Tables were too small, we had to bus our own food(awkward), it was all just meh. AND it left a hole in my wallet too — $ 32 for my dinner(bad appetizer + curry + 2 cupcakes)? It was totally not worth it. I won’t be back.

I’ve been here twice – once dining in the evening at the full restaurant, and another at the café for lunch. Both experiences were great! I am gluten/dairy free and this place has a completely gluten free menu and has the option to make dishes dairy free. I would describe the food as Indian fusion, since most of the traditional American/Mexican/Italian dishes have Indian seasonings(curry, masala, etc). I’m not a huge Indian fan, but the dishes have just enough to add a unique taste without compromising the original dish. The owners/staff are very nice and attentive as well. I will definitely be coming here regularly.

I wish I could give this place 5 stars because it’s the only gluten free pizza crust that’s halfway good in the area, but the strange blend of seasonings has not set well with my stomach EVERY time I’ve eaten here. I’m not sure why curry would need to go on a pineapple chicken pizza(or why they’d primarily use fatty bits of dark meat as the chicken parts) but it kind of ruined my night.(sensitive stomaches FTW). I’ll just stick to the desserts from now on.

I am so incredibly in love with this place. I wish there was one in every city. EVERYTHINGISGLUTENFREE! Lots of vegan and vegetarian options. Amazing bakery. The owners are lovely. They have breakfast and lunch in the café, and the bar attatched is also theirs, you can go there for dinner! This restaurant is a dream come true. Innovative, multi-cultural cuisine with a major twist. The main ingredient in every dish is love and it really shows. Gluten allergy or not, vegan, vegetarian, or carnivore, this place is worth checking out. You will not regret paying this place a visit. Come hungry!!!

I had lunch and a cupcake on the bakery side. I had the mango bbq chicken which was pretty tasty, as were the two sides. The prices are a bit high; however, my husband and I can easily share an entrée no problem. And the cupcakes are very sharable too. The turtle cupcake is good, but I just don’t care for cupcakes that have been cored and filled in with frosting. It’s just frosting overload, and I can’t stomach it. Next time I go, I’ll ask if there are any cupcakes that have not been over-frosted in that way. Their menu has lots of options for vegetarian/vegan/gluten free diets.

Their Gluten free cupcakes are huge and quite delicious. Their Vada Pao burger is amazing. But, the thing the stops me from coming to the bakery/café part(and pretty much the whole establishment) is the sullen cashier. Now, I am not unreasonable, I don’t expect the employees to do a dance and song for me when I come in, but I would like some acknowledgment and general customer service. I always feel like I am being an inconvenience when I come in to order. And this wasn’t a one time case, I have come back numerous times to make sure the cashier wasn’t having a bad day(and because, oobviously I like to have rude service). When it comes down to it, I will skip the sullen attitude of this place and go somewhere where I am treated like a human.

Fish and chips a total dud. Seriously the fish tasted farmed and polluted. For 13 bucks I expected slightly higher quality fare. Instead of a pound of fries how about a decent size piece of tasty fish?!? So dining companions were pleased by the Bombay chicken and goat stew. I also tried the gluten free Hawaiian pizza which was pretty damn awful– dried out chicken on a bizzare tasting cereal like crust. Waitstaff decent but if you’re too with child to walk 3 feet to get a cup and refill, maybe get a cart to drive around? Just saying

Good stuff! I had a chocolate turtle cupcake and it was soooooo rich. I also had the mango BBQ chicken, which was also delicious! For the price, it was insane… It came with 2 sides, which was simply too much food. The garlic kale was great if you like garlic and kale. The rice and vegetables was mostly just rice, lacking a bit. My girlfriend had a mushroom burger and the sweet potato fries — overwhelming amount of food! Wow! And she said it was absolutely delicious, too! A friend of ours got the mango BBQ chicken pizza, which she said was amazing. It’s $ 12.50 and it’s a whole pizza for that price… A lot of food. Solid food, good prices… The service was a little off — one person was working the front end and she kept disappearing, which made one couple leave as they couldn’t order. This person also forgot to give us our silverware… But I’d still go back again, the food and prices were worth it.

I’d been eyeing this place up ever since I found out it existed. I’m allergic to wheat so the gluten free cupcakes would be a treat! Took my boyfriend here after surprising him with dinner at Puerto 511. We walked in and immediately got that hippie vibe. The place smells of Indian food because, well, they sell that too! There’s the community postings on a bulletin board and the seating is tight. We immediately went up and each ordered a cupcake. I honestly can’t remember which one I had but I know my boyfriend had the Turtle one. YUM! We exchanged words with a woman as she left because I was commenting on the sheer number and variety of gluten free products that they were selling frozen. She said that the sugar cookies are very good.

This review is for the bar/restaurant side — The bakery is amazing. I’m vegan, so I really do appreciate what they have to offer, and I love having it right in my neighborhood. However. The food is overpriced and just so-so. There is basically only one item in the entrée section of the menu that can be made vegan, I believe. Correct me if I’m wrong on that. But that’s not really my issue, either. The real problem comes in when you order liquor. They must have the stingiest pour in all of Baltimore. I’ve heard it from people again and again, and experienced it myself. I’d love to make Sweet 27 a regular spot, but I can’t frequent a place that is so blatantly ripping people off on the booze, of all things. Your customers know they are already paying an insanely high markup to buy a drink in a bar or restaurant. Don’t make it worse. 3 stars is generous for a place I wouldn’t return to or recommend to anyone. The bakery is your saving grace.

Visited Sweet 27 with a large group of friends. Food was just okay. I did enjoy the plantain app with yogurt and black beans. However, the shrimp tacos were embarrassing especially considering this establishment is in the seafood capital or the world Baltimore. The shrimp were canned baby shrimp and extremely difficult to find. The service wasn’t that great either. I only asked for one thing the entire time and after asking twice a I gave up. They have a policy that parties larger than 6 have to pay a 20% tip. I felt that since she already had her 20% in the bag she could have cared less. Only highlights included the décor and happy hour pricing. If you decide to get a happy hour drink though it has to be at the bar, the prices will not be honored at the tables a few feet away. I won’t be going back.

Dedicated gluten free bakery! My kids say these cup cakes are better than DC Cupcakes gluten free ones and I agree with them on the cake part. The cake far exceeds that of DC cupcakes the frosting is amazing but DC cupcakes slightly better. The Chocolate chip cookies still have the typical gluten-free aftertaste but large and good. Which I would have tried the peanut butter one. For us out-of-towners the neighborhood did look a little shady and it is off the beaten path but the cupcake is definitely worth the jaunt. It is a very«crunchy» place but most dedicated gluten-free restaurants are. The staff was fantastic very informative very nice and very patient. We drove from DC to Baltimore to find this place. Worth the drive if you need a GF sweet.

Gluten free vegan?! Awesome that it’s all labeled so nicely. However, as I walked in, the place felt a little dingy and not as well kept as I would like a bakery café to be. Still, we ordered some cupcakes and chomped on them while there. For gluten free, it’s a good effort, but, I prefer richer and more complex flavors in the cake and frosting. The frosting was also likely made with shortening… ummm, not so yummy. The cake was slightly too dense — understandable, though, since it was gluten free. Good effort! The prices are pretty fair. They had a few cookies and about a half dozen vegan cupcake options. The people working at Sweet 27 were very nice and willing to answer questions. The bakery/café is open earlier than the restaurant next door. Interesting set-up. So, the takeaway message is just because the corner establishment looks closed, it doesn’t mean you can’t go to the bakery/café portion to get a cupcake or breakfast! The menu for brunch and lunch/dinner looked awesome. They have a focus on Indian/Pakistani food, and I hope to go back and try it out!
