My favorite restaurant in the neighborhood. Very affordable and delicious Mexican food, small atmosphere and great service. Never had a bad experience. I recommend the shrimp quesadilla and the fried plantains.

Honestly, I’m a little confused as to how to rate this. I mean, I certainly don’t want a sterile strip mall restaurant with fluorescent margaritas, and the slightly dingy interior didn’t really bother me either. I live for that kind of shit, but… they really didn’t seem too thrilled to have us there. The waitress basically ignored us, our food took FOREVER, and pretty much as soon as we finished eating, they starting blaring music. Like, deafening. It was noon on a Saturday, so not like we were keeping them past closing, but we definitely got the vibe they wanted us to leave. The food was another story. I know I should have been more adventurous, but I stuck to tacos. I got a tongue and two chicken. I liked the chicken better, but the tongue was good. The serve it with onions on top, and a weak salad with ranch on the side. The tortillas were beyond delicious and the green sauce on the side was good. My husband did not like his tostadas because of the strongly flavored cheese. I thought they were amazing. The cheese was interesting and the refritos were really good. I recommend you get take out.

Mi Comalito is a go-to spot for us. This is a family owned business that truly cares about the quality of their food. When we first started dining in here about a year ago, they had a more limited menu. Since then, they have added way more items to their menu, including vegetarian options and oh my god fish tacos– which are a MUSTTRY. I have seen them have their busy moments, but there is plenty of seating for the most part. The service is super friendly and although English is not a first language for most of them, they are very easy to communicate with. Please try their Mariscada which is a freaking delicious seafood soup that comes in a ginormous bowl and their yucca which is always fried to perfection. This place is seriously a GEM.

Very good with a wide variety of selections and a friendly, welcoming vibe. The rice is always a tell in a «Mexican» joint, and their is delicious. Highly recommend the enchiladas!

Was downtown shopping for art supplies and asked around for a good Mexican spot to grab dinner. Started with the free chips and salsa. Salsa kinda sucked, chips just ok. I’ve had better salsa and chips at chain restaurants. I ordered chicken tacos, tortillas were home made but the tacos were bland. My friend ordered shrimp fajitas, not much flavor and not a lot of food. I believe the owners are El Salvadorian.

My son and I wandered to Mi Comalito, since he had a hankering for a burrito(which he pretty much always has the hankering for). The place was pretty empty and much smaller than I expected. My son got a chicken burrito and some papusas. The papusas were pretty average(if a restaurant manages to screw up a papusa, they should just shut down. His burrito was the kind that was smothered and had to be eaten with a fork and knife. I ordered the Plato Tipico Salvadoreno with the intent to give half to the teen to make sure he had enough to eat. Well, we ended up bring half of it home because his burrito was big enough for him to be STUFFED, which is impressive in it’s own right. The food was really good, and we took the sign that it took forever to come out as they were actually cooking it and not reheating it. I could pass on the salsa though.

The food here is nice. Seems family run with a bunch of children running around all day. Only females work here, and they speak some English, but not very well. Be sure to clarify exactly what you want when ordering. The food is good, but not spectacular. I have definitely had better Mexican food in the city, but this is good for a lunch break. They serve you a small basket of a tortilla chips/salsa, but they are a bit skimpy about it compared to other restaurants in the city. Do not be afraid to ask for more! The food takes a bit of time to come out, and I adore Mexican food in Baltimore, so I feel like I’ve been to all of the restaurants in this city that serve anything in a tortilla/taco form. But this place has food that comes out a bit slower than all of the others. However, their enchiladas are delicious and they also have a very delicious bowl of shrimp or seafood soup. Yum! I’ll go again, but it’s not going to be the best Mexican food you’ve ever had, but they will fill you up!

(10÷1÷2015) A friend brought me takeout leftovers to try. Even the next day and reheated in the microwave, what I had was pretty good. Tried the Pastelitos de Carne(stuffed corn pastry with ground beef), filling was savory and well-seasoned, garlicky, would’ve been awesome fresh out of the deep fat fryer. Plantains were a large portion, well-carmelized. Yuca con Chicharrones were tender yet well-fried, yuca in large chunks, pork in small chunks; love the aji amarillo that comes with. Looking forward to an in-house visit, was described as down-to-earth, local ethnic community supported, and unassuming. Prices reasonable.

This is a place to wear your fat pants because you’ll end up eating even after you’re full. It’s just that good. You’ll be hard pressed to find a better tamale, even after you’ve backpacked around Latin America. I’ve always been«meh» about tamales because they tend to be dry, flavorless, and all filler, no meat. The ones at Mi Comalito are bursting with flavor. The corn meal sings of sweet corn and is plump, juicy and glistening from the gristle of the chicken slowly cooking inside it. There’s a generous slab o’ chicken in the middle, plus some potato and peas. That’s two more ingredients than most chicken tamales I’ve seen. The pupusa is generously sized. The loroco pupusa(vegetable pupusa) was light on the veggies. It was more of an herb sprinkled in there. But, it’s tasty! It came with a refreshing cabbage salad that was just the right level of spicy. The atmosphere feels like a little corner of utopia, in that all ages and races were gathered there, hunkered over their comfort food, having discovered this place way before me.

Let’s keep this review simple… This place is amazing!!! We did carry out and the quality of the food was phenomenal ! The price was fair. It was difficult to find — only because the address is on Charles but the entrance is actually around the corner on 21st. There were a few tables and the place seemed pretty clean at a glance. They were very nice but didn’t seem to speak much English — which is totally fine. PS — their menu was not available online so I’m also posting pictures of it.

So, this place is pretty good considering the other closest Mexican place is holy frijoles(ick). The meat plates are really well marinaded and they use top quality beef and chicken. However, the rice and beans are probably instant(not homemade) and the«salsa» literally comes from a can of tomato soup. I’m Mexican American and grew up in a border town. I grew up eating and cooking this kind of food. so while the carne is fantastic the rest is pretty inauthentic. I got the chicken enchiladas and they were dry, filled with instant beans and rice(lol wut) and didn’t have either red or green sauce. Only like three pieces of tomatoes. The best enchiladas in bmore are from cinco de mayo. Let’s just say the chain on the border is more authentic, although granted they use hatch green chilies at said chain which are amazing. Service was slow. They also overcharged us by a few bucks. Also, super pricey relative to the food. I’ll probably come back though because there really aren’t any good Latino restaurants round here.

This is such a great hidden spot! This place is pretty authentic! Little tiny restaurant, not too much seating and definitely wouldn’t seat larger parties. I’ve tried the Chicken Burrito(almost San Diego style with vegetables on top, cheese and beans!). Very interesting. I tried the #22 — Palto mixto mi comalito. It has grilled steak, chicken and shipr along with rice, beans and a little salad. Really interesting flavor. The shrimp was delicious! I also tried the Steak tacos. I think that the chicken burrito was the best option — the steak meat was just okay. Chicken is really their biggest selling point! I would definitely recommend the Plato — lots and lots of food and they give you tortillas too!

The address is a bit confusing because the front door is on the cross street. This is a well-known and well-loved restaurant offering affordable tasty Latin American fare. It’s very casual, and they do take out, too.

Recently moved from LA and had been looking for some quality latin american food. I am so glad that I stumbled upon Mi Comalito. The staff is very friendly and I’ve always received fast service. I’ve ordered the pupusas de loroco and the fried plantains. So good! They have also recently opened up a bar upstairs. I have not gone, but they still serve beer in the dinning area.

The place to go for authentic yucca con chicharron and the best home made Tamarindo in town! Their pupusas are perfect for a little snack and their restaurant is cozy with charming service! Definitely a place to check out if you’re in the mood for Bueno Comalito!

Best papusas in town, if only they kept more regular hours! When my wife has a bad day at the office, I know I can pick up 3 frijoles y queso, and it turns things around. Side note: only some of the staff really speaks English. Never been a problem for me, but something to consider.

We briefly ventured here before going to the Charles Theatre and was very impressed. Staff was kind and we got some delicious pupusas. This area has lacked Latino food for long enough and we are glad to have this restaurant here. Can’t wait to go again and try some more dishes. Good prices too!

Love this place. The food is delicious and flavorful, the staff are kind and friendly, and it’s BYOB which is magical. They make their own tortillas! If you are gluten-free, order one of the Platos Tipicos! So so so good.

This place is pretty cozy but large enough for a small group. Remember not to go too late — they will sometimes close early if there aren’t a lot of people. My friend and I decided to split a few dishes. We ordered the pupusas loroco(vine flowers with cheese), yuca con chicharron, and tamales con pollo. The pupusas loroco were awesome. They were warm and oozing of cheese when you opened them up. I ate up the slaw — always a fan of the slaw with the tang and crushed tomatoes. The yuca and pork were freshly fried and came with homemade aioli. It was a little too heavy for me, but I can see how people could enjoy it. The tamales con pollo was mushier than I would have liked, but it had great flavor — the masa was prepared in chicken broth so it made the whole tamale flavorful. Overall, a good addition to the neighborhood. I’ll be back for the pupusas.

Hmmmm Mexican, Honduran and Salvadorean Food so close to my home?! Yes please! I stopped by Mi Comalito for lunch and couldn’t decide what I wanted. It was my first time dropping in. While waiting to order my lunch I caught myself drooling over all of the dishes they bought out. On this particular occassion I had the Tacos de Carnitas. For 9.50, you received 3 nicely packed juicy tacos. Along with, you get a small side salad. The meat was savory and deelish. I’m definitely venturing out again to try the Pupusas and the Enchiladas de Camaron :)
