Today the employees of the Fresh & Green’s on Charles Street just received word that they will be closing on December 29th. It was formerly Super Fresh, and most of the employees were able to keep their jobs and give the business district and surrounding apartments not only a place to shop for groceries, lunch, and everyday items, but gave them a sense of community. It is not only sad that everyone is loosing their jobs during the Holiday season, but there will be yet another vacant building on Charles Street.

Pay(lots) for convenience. That’s what I think about Fresh & Green’s. Given if you live in the area and don’t have a car, then it’s not too bad. Otherwise if you’re willing to head north to Safeway or south to Whole Foods via car or public transportation, then that’s probably a better idea.

It’s a grocery store… but what makes this place special, is it on Charles street and not in a typically large super market space. The amount of stuff that this place some how finds the place to fit in this space is unbeliveable. Everytime I come here I either find what I was looking for(even though I was thinking, they wont have it) or find stuff my regular grocery store doesn’t even keep in stock. go figure. I needed ice trays. had them. I needed allegra… had it. I needed large knife. had it. I wanted almond butter… had it. I wanted coconut milk… yes. It’s just un expected treasure. something you wouldn’t think to be doing reviews on. Also I just work in the area, I dont live here I can’t review on anything after 5 o’clock. The prices are probably a little steeper than my neighborhood Shoppers, but it’s considered a downtown neighborhood, so everything is a tad more $$$

Solid option for when we need to pick up a ready-made dinner or an odd grocery item or two on the way home from the gym. It’s definitely a convenience and not too far away from the house, which is good when we don’t feel like driving just for that one thing. Pretty impressive selection for a small downtown store. However… A few not-so-good things, though: — The produce, when we visited, didn’t… look all that fresh. I was very disappointed, as there was a good selection and variety. But… eh, I wasn’t impressed with what I saw. Same goes for the fish and seafood counter — fresh fish shouldn’t smell like… well, like FISH, you know? Maybe it’s an anomaly. — Prices are SKY high, even for a downtown location. Almost six dollars for a half gallon of BREYERS ice cream? Seriously? That ice cream had better have golden flakes in it for me to pay that much money. — The layout of the store, as others have mentioned, is just flat-out weird. And a little creepy, to be honest. You don’t know WHAT you’re going to see, coming around those sharp corners. I don’t see how people navigate a basket in here. — The only way out of this store is to push through the entire line. That’ll earn you quite a few dirty looks, but hey — not everyone is going to buy stuff, maybe they’re just looking around. Take a chill pill. This is a good choice for when we might need a couple of things or just want to pick up a rotisserie chicken or a little sushi box or something on the way home. It’s a viable option. UPDATE: Fresh & Green’s is now CLOSED as of December 27, 2013. Pictures attached.

I stepped out of my hotel and saw this this little grocery store around the corner. What a find! As someone else stated, it is a little odd in terms of layout, but it packs a lot of punch in terms of what it offers in every nook and cranny! In addition to offering fruits, vegetables, meats, household items, and bagged/canned items, they also offer a nice selection of prepared sandwiches, salads, etc. All at very reasonable prices! Yes, it is not a full fledged store, but given it is in the heart of Baltimore and provides a well rounded array of items, along with a good selection of prepared foods, makes this a gem of a store.

Overall, really strange layout, high prices, but convenient location to downtown Baltimore. We were staying at the Hotel Monaco and wanted to grab some milk. It was Christmas Eve and we were having trouble finding anything that was open in the area. We found Fresh & Green’s, which was only a few blocks away from the hotel. Navigating the store to get to the dairy section was a nightmare! I’m not sure who designed the layout but they should be fired. We found what we were looking for and then had to go through the maze to get out. The prices seemed a bit high but it was our only choice so we couldn’t complain. Bonus points for having organic milk!
