Based on where this is located, it’s a great place especially for the bang for your buck. They have farm to fork food, great drinks and parking! What more could you want in Canton? I love that their menu changes seasonally, own thing you want to try is their homemade chips and the dip! Yum! I do have to say that the two times I have been there the service was a bit slow so don’t expect for it to be quick service. I really like their décor and the food!

Farmstead Grill opened about a year ago in Canton. Since it opened, my friend and I have wanted to try it there, but we never quite make it over there in favor of one of our favorites closer to home. On a recent Friday evening, we had some things we wanted to pick up at Target and thought it would be a perfect time to try out Farmstead Grill. The weather was beautiful so we opted to eat outside. Based on some Unilocal reviews, we knew to order the Chips and Dip, even though they weren’t on the menu. The chips were very crispy and salty, the Greek yogurt dip was perfect for tempering some of that salt. My friend decided to order the Steak Entrée and was given the option to chose a cut of meat and a side. She chose the Flatiron steak with a side of Fingerling Potatoes. The steak was cooked and seasoned well, but overall it didn’t stand out from other steaks she has had around town. However, the potatoes were cooked well and very flavorful ad well as tender. For my meal, I ordered the Smoked Brisket Sandwich. It was ancho chili rubbed brisket, horseradish cream and pickled shallots. The brisket was incredibly tender and the sandwich was excellent, however the creamed spinach was very mediocre. My sandwich came with a side of chips but because we had started with chips, I substituted for creamed spinach. It was basically spinach in a cheesy liquid, I wouldn’t order that again. Overall, we had a fine experience. The food wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t extraordinary either. If I was over in Canton Crossing and looking for a sit down meal, I would consider heading back to Farmstead Grill, otherwise I can’t see myself heading back there for dinner.

I am sitting in the restaurant for the first time. The food is actually better than other reviewers posited. I had the chicken salad sandwich with hand cut fries and a side order of crispy bacon. The bacon was crispy and good. The sandwich was also good and slightly curried. The fries were fairly greasy but acceptable. However the service was poor. I ordered coffee and it came in a tiny cup barely deeper than a paperback book. The waitress basically ignored me after serving the food and left my cup empty. I asked for a refill once and then waited to see if she would pay attention the next time. She did not! I was at the restaurant at 1045 and there were 5 employees and only three tables so being busy was not the issue. So likely I will not return…

I had to plan a wake luncheon for 16 ppl after a family member passed unexpectedly. As you can imagine, I was overwhelmed and under a tight time frame to get this coordinated. I contacted several restaurants in Canton/Highlandtown/Dundalk area. I called Farmstead and spoke with Scott. He was so friendly, patient and professional. He worked with me to plan a seasonal, comforting and delicious 3-entrée selection menu that was within my budget. He went above and beyond and took extremely good care of our party. After a quick phone call we planned the specifics and I didn’t have to worry about the details of the lunch. I felt that Scott had things taken care of. This is exactly the type of community-centered restaurant that I love. Fantastic customer service and great food to boot! Scott — Your understanding, flexibility and compassion were greatly appreciated. From my family to yours, THANKYOU!

What’s truly amazing about this place is the fact that they can take the flavor out of the food. Really. I’m serious. I went for happy hour, which is a great deal, if the food was great. But it’s actually pretty bad. Their deal is .95 apps with the purchase of 2 drinks during happy hour. They don’t offer drink specials, but one would think that with such great food deals the drinks specials wouldn’t matter. $ 6.25 gets you a flying dog blood orange beer, and $ 7 gets you 7 flavorless apps. If you don’t want my opinion, and you’d like to check it out for yourself, get the deviled eggs and the fried wings(honey old bay). Other wise, steer clear. The crab and artichoke hushpuppies were by far the worst. It came with this spinach and goat cheese sauce that literally tasted like flour and water. The hushpuppies were doughy and blahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. All of their sliders sounded really delicious on the menu, but the taste was sub par. I ate most of them without the bun because the buns were stale. The chicken salad had pretty good flavor by itself. The only reason I’m giving this place two stars is because of the décor. This place is adorable inside. I had high hopes and i hope they find a new chef. I felt bad as there were so many staff waiting around to help, but no one was eating there. Oh yeah, and the bartender was rude.

I’m a little angered by the 3 star rating the other Unilocalers gave Farmstead. It prevented me from trying it for a long time. Tonight we were in the mood to take a risk and try it out, and everything was fabulous. This leads me to conclude one of two things, either the restaurant upped it’s game from the bad reputation it’s gotten from Unilocal,or the customers are a bunch of spoiled brats whose expectations are astronomically unrealistic. Either way, the service was friendly, the farm to table food was delicious, fresh, and inventive, and the atmosphere was beautiful, combining modern with rustic elements. We started with the crab and artichoke hush puppies, had the swordfish, pork, and burger for entrees, and finished it all off with a rhubarb short cake. I seriously have 0 complaints, and can’t imagine one if I tried. I think Unilocalers seriously need to check themselves before they recklessly assign 1 star reviews to amazing restaurants. We’re going to end up putting these awesome, entrepreneurial businesses like Farmstead out of business and end up with nothing but garbage chain restaurants as our only options.

Wish I hadn’t gone back to ruin the great experience I had here. No other tables and yet the worst service I’ve ever had. Cold coffee. $ 6 for 2 burnt strips of bacon. And our check was wrong. We were given no attention, didn’t get to add drinks, and waited forever for very mediocre food. Shame.

Sorry to say but OVERPRICED. The food was good not great. We had a party of five. The service was at best okay, but in defense of the waitress they were short staffed. I enjoyed the wagyu burger. It was tasty. Other’s in the party were not to keen on the crab cake. Okay at best. The orders came out with missing items. The lobster bisque was unedable and was taken from the check. The appetizers of mussels and deviled eggs were very good and appropriately priced. The wine pour was an absolute joke. I had more wine in a dixie cup. $ 8 a glass. The menu is very small with little selections. I am sorry if you want to try the farm to table have at it. But you maybe disappointed. Knock a few dollars off the food and a solid wine pour, this place may have something. I doubt I will return unless I see a new menu with more legitimate prices. I spoke the manager. He was very nice man and listened to my criticism. I tried to be honest and fair. This is not a reflection of him or our waitress. It goes who in charge of setting the menu and prices.

VEGETARIANS/VEGANS BEWARE Just went here last night with my family for Father’s Day. This place gives a whole new meaning to the term«slow food». Service was slow and forgetful. The person taking our order didn’t take the food to the table and the staff who did hadn’t bothered to find out who each plate was for. Normally I don’t mind this, but it just added to what was overall a bad dining experience. I’m vegan and I was pleased to see that I could order items advertised as vegan/vegetarian. So I ordered a salad(without cheese), fries, and a side of sauteed mushrooms. All advertised as vegan/vegetarian. The salad came without the cheese but saturated in dressing and it was so full of pepper that I kept choking on it. The fries were decent. I was enjoying the mushrooms and then halfway through them discovered a small piece of bacon in them. Who puts bacon in a vegetarian item? Perhaps they decided to do it with bacon grease, maybe it was a mistake, I don’t know. But it’s bang out of order to serve vegetarian fare with meat in it — NOEXCUSES. I would have brought it up to our absent minded waitress but she was so slow to bring the bill that I was too eager to just get out of the place. It came to something like $ 270 for 6 people for a less than mediocre meal. For any meat eaters who find this nitpicky, be warned that family members who ordered meat entrees were totally nonplussed with their food.

We started off with the white bean hummus that was served with pita which was good. The hand-cut fries were good too. But the young kale and radish ceaser salad we picked was horrid. The waitress wasn’t very attentive. When we needed something we waited at least 10 – 15 minutes at a time till she came back around and we were the only ones in the restaurant. Also I was a little concerned as we were leaving, the waitress was coming to grab our plates and saw the tip that I guess wasn’t good enough for her and then looked at me and asked, «Was everything ok?» Don’t ever do that.

I was concerned about quality when we walked in to a mostly empty restaurant at 8pm on a Friday night. Everyone who wasn’t eating here is an idiot. Crowded chain restaurants surround this delicious bit of farm to table glory. Our party ordered the crab cake, the porterhouse, and the pork chop(mine!!) we all became members of the clean plate club. There were flavors that were wonderfully indescribable in the spinach and potatoes that rested beneath the crisp yet juicy and thick pork chop. I wish I could have met that pig and thanked him. He was delicious! Then there was dessert. I didn’t want to do it at first, but o couldn’t help myself after I smelled the blue jasmine ice cream. I ordered the buttermilk Crème brûlée with peppered strawberry compote. Holy cow! Not having the overly sweet base made the Crème brûlée one of the most fabulously decadent desserts I’ve ever had. Yes, I owe myself an extra day at the gym now for that, but it was worth every bite. I will save it for special occasions and great company because the service was not the best and the price is a little above my dinner budget. But I will be back, and I can’t wait to see what flavors of ice cream the chef has then!

What a great place! Farmstead is right across from Brewer’s Hill and is the kind of restaurant this new shopping center needs. We were greeted as soon as we came in and started off with some mimosa and coffee. The place has a light and airy feel, sort of like you are in someone’s kitchen. I really liked it. We started with Deviled Eggs, which were soft and fluffy and seasoned wonderfully. Next up was the chilled pea soup, refreshing and yummy. Then brunch! We had the 25 mile breakfast and the breakfast burrito. Cooked to perfection and served hot, this is the best brunch I have had in a long time! I loved the portion sizes — it wasn’t MASSIVE but not too stingy that you are hungry, it is more of their farm to table mentality that means everything is fresh, tasty, and made just for you. I really, really loved this place! We will definitely be back!

Checked out Farmstead Grill’s private party options for an event. Did you know they have an upstairs loft that fits approximately 50 people?! I didn’t, but now I do. They also own the entire lawn area outside of the restaurant that can be rented out as well for events. The décor is really cute and I love all of the artwork they have in the restaurant. We decided to eat here as well after checking out the place. Their spring menu had just come out earlier that week. We started with the duck confit spring roll and the smoked pork belly to start… I was not a fan of either one. Both seemed overcooked and dry. Portions were also extremely small for the price. For dinner, I ordered the scallops and risotto. This was a nice large portion! :) The scallops were seasoned and cooked perfectly. The risotto had some grains in there, which took some getting used to, but after the first few bites, I got used to the consistency. There were some green peas in the risotto, which added a nice touch of sweetness. Hubby ordered the pork chop which was seasoned really well, juicy, and tender. I think what I have learned is to stay away from the sandwiches. I had ordered an open faced steak sandwich for lunch a few months back and the steak was tasteless and very difficult to chew through. My friend ordered the clam po boy sandwich and the clams were almost inedible. It was super fried and dried that it would disintegrate as you chewed. Didn’t have that chewy consistency that you would expect from deep fried clams.

This place has a great ambience and it’s convenient because it has outside parking and is spacious enough to accommodate large parties and families. I thought the food was OK. I ordered the curry in a half acorn squash with forbidden(black) rice and it tasted like something I could make at home. There was not as much coconut flavor was I would like, tasted more like traditional Japanese curry than Thai curry. My husband thought his burger was just OK and my friends thought their dishes(also a burger and the vegetable risotto dish with egg) were just OK. Their order of fries in the beginning were good and so was the roasted garlic with bread and balsamic vinegar.

The rant first then the review: Well, I gave it another shot after finding this place on Baltimore Magazine’s Top 50 Restaurants, and I was very disappointed. I won’t be back. From now on, I’ll stick with Samos or Atwaters. Or On the Border or Red Robin. Why?: Fried chicken kale Caesar– who puts bones in fried chicken on top of a salad? On top of the flavor being off… And the menu said it came with mushrooms and onions and when we asked for it without, the waitress said it doesn’t come with it. But it’s on the menu? Chips and dip: oily and not so crispy. Didn’t like the spice. The dip’s flavor was off. The asparagus: the only part of the meal I liked. Thankful this was on there. But clearly not worth coming back to a restaurant for asparagus.

I didn’t eat dinner here, so I can’t fully judge the place. However, the cocktail and popcorn appetizer I had were pretty subpar. I needed to squeeze a lime into my drink in order for the taste to be more manageable and the popcorn had some serious grease going on(it was very, very rich too). The service was decent though, so kudos for that.

Restaurant Week Lunch Nice open atmosphere and they were attentive to our need to lunch and leave within an hour. We both had the onion soup and while flavorful was just is a bit sad without a cheesy top. The Curry Chicken Salad sandwich was nice as were the house Old Bay chips. The Pork Sandwich was good but could have been improved with either more«Carolina» flavor or side of traditional BBQ sauce. Nice local beer list adds to the local flavor.

Last time I was in Baltimore, I skipped this establishment because of the three star rating here on Unilocal, opting instead for a sushi joint that had four and. A half stars(and ended up being terrible.) This time, my husband and I didn’t want to venture far from our hotel for our evening meal. We were tired from the long drive and just wanted to check in and knock off. From the time we stepped through the door, we were pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is nice; good ambiance combined with great style. Vaulted ceilings lend it an airy, open feel. A look at the menu tells you that the food is seasonal and much of it is local, plus all of it is fresh and tasted the part. Admittedly, Canton isn’t a very«beautiful» town, but the shopping center this is located in is a decent one. I stay at a nearby hotel when I follow up with my neuro doctor at JH, and this is my go-to shopping area. The service was good: timely and friendly. We were served our food while it was fresh and hot. Our server was on top of our every need and had no problem answering questions. The food was quite good. It tasted fresh and the flavors were artfully combined; it is obvious that the menu was created by a skilled chef. The presentation was nice as well. My husband and I split the eggplant strata as an appetizer and the rockfish entrée. Both were great and we were both full after splitting them. They also didn’t give us any flack or charge is for splitting a meal. I would not hesitate to come back to this place.

I LOVED my experience at Farmstead last night! We were seated quickly with no wait, our service was impeccable and the food was delicious! Howard, our server, was so great that I actually mistook him for the owner of the restaurant. He told us about the great weekly events they had planned, helped us pick out a bottle of wine(it was half off a bottle that night), and was very knowledgable of the menu. The food was great! I love that all of the items are fresh and locally produced. I had the roasted chicken breast with garlic mashed potatoes and everything was cooked perfectly. The chicken was super tender and the flavors in the potatoes were delicious. The serving size was on the smaller size but I was appreciative of that when I saw the dessert menu! I tasted the chocolate layer cake with salted caramel ice cream, chocolate pot de crème and bread pudding which was still warm. 5⁄5 because I had not ONE complaint during the entire 2 hours we were there!

Oh man… I was really looking forward to having for a new and unique place to grab some grub, but I just didn’t vibe with Farmstead Grill. My beau and I were the first people to be served food on yesterday(grand opening day). I was impressed by the décor but was a little put-back, as I was expecting a more rustic farm feel, not a modern-chic farm. Otherwise, the décor was still cute. We were sat a table near the bar and were brought a nice glass bottle of water. I went to put my foot down on the table base and the water spilled everywhere. Apparently the tables have grips on the bottoms of them to keep them from scratching the floors, but they were unevenly placed and if you even lean on the table, or hit the table with your foot — your food and drinks may go flying. The menu was similar to that of BistoRx, which was also a little confusing to me. Farmstead is taking a «modern» approach to fresh-farm food. I was expecting more eggs, more meaty old-fashioned style dishes but we were served up a menu with risotto, burgers and flashy appetizers. Might I add that it’ll cost you no less than $ 18 for chicken, steak or the risotto… all entrees were relatively expensive. We weren’t expecting expensive prices, but we decided to order two separate burgers and sample each others. I ordered the Galen and my beau ordered the Solville. 40 minutes later… burgers are served with some homemade chips. So, apparently the Solville burger is supposed to be «hot hot hot» but is was just NOTNOTNOT. The burger was actually bland and under seasoned. Now don’t confuse this, the burger was cooked perfectly but it wasn’t prepared well — lacking seasoning and the cheese was also a little lackluster. The other Galen burger was also lackluster with really no flavor at all. The waiter asked how we did handling the«heat» of the Solville burger and I told him, «The side of mustard had more heat than the burger did». I know this place just opened, but they were unorganized at 5pm, the kitchen took forever to cook the food(we were the first people to place an order) and the food was bland/under seasoned. All in all, farmstead grill was lacking. However, I am looking forward to the«farmers market» stand that will located directly across the establishment.
