Solid 4 based on food, but service was beyond slow. Wasn’t overly packed for a Friday night but for 4 a reservation was needed. We got seated right away and our drink orders were taken/brought in a timely fashion. We had to wait a good 30 minutes just to order– the waitresses were running around and ignored us the entire time until we tried to flag them down multiple times. I get that giving people their Orders is important but you can’t keep all of your customers waiting. Once we ordered it was another 30 minutes to get our food… there was literally 1 sushi roller on a weekend! It’s pretty ridiculous to have a highly rated sushi place and not up the staff on weekends. The sushi was really good though. The sashimi was buttery and fresh which is pretty much the deciding factor for any sushi restaurant. We tried a whole slew of rolls and none of them disappointed. The house salad was also good with the finer dressing but the edamame were nothing special and needed more sea salt.

The sushi here is fresh and good, and the menu is huge, but the service and atmosphere are a bit lacking. Maybe because it’s BYOB, but there was an extremely loud and vulgar group of young women in the back who obviously had zero regard for who was forced to listen to their incessant cursing and barking laughter all night. Our wait staff was friendly, but scarce. My favorite parts of the meal were the miso soup(which was some of the best I’ve had) and the little green tea mochi I had for dessert, although I genuinely enjoyed m entire meal.

I love this place! My dad and I have been going to this place for about 7 years. Best sushi around and the miso soup is awesome! My all time favorite is the spicy tuna and philly roll… Ok bay, Alaskan and spider roll are great as well.

Such an underrated little sushi spot in the neighborhood, and yet always so good! Great lunch and dinner specials with good prices, I especially love getting the JC special that includes chef choice — you can give them some idea of your preferences and otherwise they’ll play around and create something unique. Finally tried their Korean food as well and was quite pleased! Considering there’s pretty much no other Korean options in the area, my craving for kimchi was satisfied and I was full enough from my bulgogi dinner to have it happily finish it off for lunch the next day. Now, if only they would deliver!

I at lunch at Asahi with a friend on a Saturday. It was weirdly empty, but I still had a good experience. They have a broad range of Korean and other Japanese food in addition to the actual sushi you’d expect. My fish wasn’t top notch fresh out of the ocean, but not enough to make a negative impact on the meal. The prices are quite low for a sushi bar. My biggest complaint was the lighting. It was very dim and mostly the atmosphere was what could have made the food feel not fresh. I’ll come back here if I’m craving sushi in Fells and want something quick and easy, but I think there are better options because I found nothing too special about Asahi.

Yum! Had my first California roll with real crab meat. Love! Eel roll smaller than I am used to but it was delicious. My friend just said the spicy tuna and yellowtail is out of this world!” He also digged the color roll. Big time. Winner winner chicken dinner. Well. Sushi but you know what I mean. Chef took his time but we’ll worth it! Nice décor. Quiet. Good service.

Ok this place is consistent. And I’ve tried other area sushi places… this is the only 1 I go back to. I typically pickup sushi 2x a week for lunch/dinner. And it’s fresh; good basics. Just note, that sometimes the person on the phone might not have english as their first language. But they are super nice, and the food is fresh and consistent. Note, I’ve had really really really good sushi… and found this to be great for Baltimore standards.

Super yummy dudes! I’ve been here about 10 times in the last 2 years. I only get rolls because I’m not brave enough for actual sushi. If you want a simple roll I recommend the Japanese Bagel Roll… imagine a chunk of smoked lox paired with cream cheese because that’s exactly what it is! Sooo good. If you want something fancy I’d roll(hehe) with the Asahi Special Roll… fried scrimps, avocado, and crab. The staff is super duper friendly which to me matters just as much as the food.

Celebrated a friend’s birthday here with a group of about 12. With our reservation, we were seated right away and servers brought waters pretty quickly. We also brought a ton of beer, which is something I love about some sushi places. The staff was super friendly and accommodating of our large party. Menu offered your basic Japanese dishes and sushi options. I really appreciated how they ask you to order your rolls(check off what you want on a paper menu), because it allows a large party like ours to split checks very easily without confusion. After we all put our orders in, I was surprised at how fast the food came out. It was all delicious and came out exactly to order. Everyone left very full and happy. I’d definitely come back when I’m in B-more again if I’m in the mood for some sushi.

Good quality, always fresh and very good service. Eat here probably once a week. It’s byob, too. There is probably better sushi in Baltimore, but no better a sushi restaurant, especially for the reasonable price.

Just ordered take out from here and we won’t be back. We ordered four special rolls to split– Rainbow, Really Spicy, Red & White and Dynamite. The fish was fresh but the flavors fell flat. Not only that, but we realized that two of our rolls were WRONG! We ended up with the Rainbow and, we think, the Red & White along with this large roll sliced into 12 or so pieces as well as a roll with cream cheese and shrimp… My boyfriend went to grab the food and said that the restaurant was dingy and smelt off. The prices give a good value but the reviews here really steered us wrong tonight.

My boyfriend and I eat here all the time– it’s such a gem! Right around the corner and reasonable prices for fish especially if you order one of the specials or combos. Downsides are that it can get really crowded on weekends and they are understaffed so service can be very slow.

Grab some beer or wine on your way here, and prepare to have a delightful and cheap meal! This place is a great spot for a cheap date night. It’s busy though… on a recent Saturday night we had to sit at the bar because it was packed! I am pretty sure they take reservations, so you should call and make one. You don’t want to miss out! Service is nice, but can get a little harried. We love the place for good quality sushi and fantastic prices. They also have some other Korean dishes like bibimbap but we’ve never strayed from the sushi and $ 1 miso soup!

Was craving sushi and my boyfriend recommended Asahi. It hit the spot without hurting the wallet! I had a delicious Broadway roll and miso soup that warmed me up. The server was training so I’ve had better service, but the staff was delightful and the place was clean and quaint. Will be back for my sushi needs!

We found our go-to sushi place in Baltimore. The only thing it lacks? It’s BYOB. But considering everything else, I can forgo a night of drinks being served to me for the great sushi. We got a variety of rolls, including specialty and vegetarian, and everything was delicious. Everyone was so friendly, and the food came up really fast. We were in and out in less than an hour on a weeknight during dinner time.

Went for the first time earlier this week with my significant other, who had introduced me too a whole expanded world of sushi. Not too long ago I was used to the very basic rolls(California, tuna, salmon, etc.), which I found to be plenty edible, but mostly bland. Now I understand there are oodles of varieties, with a plethora of taste profiles, and in really enjoying it! At Asahi we split three different sushi rolls and a seaweed salad. The salad was very tasty, and two of the three rolls — one of tempura variety, the other a spicy 10-piece roll — were pretty scrumptious. Alas, the third was dominated by a spicy paste that was overpowering and reminiscent of cayenne pepper. Not good. Not good at all… and I’m a fan of spicy! Service was good, the prices were alright, and I also liked the iced green tea well enough. Looking forward to going back!

You know when you get back from vacation, and it’s late and dark and everything(flights, rental car return, traffic) took longer than expected and the last thing you want to do is cook and all you want is FOOD and then BED? Well, that’s the mood I was in when I first headed to Asahi Sushi. I was actually headed to Fells to pick up some sushi from Sticky Rice, and they were closed for a private event. I noticed Asahi and popped in for a gamble. A sushi gamble is an expensive gamble! I didn’t even read Unilocal reviews; I was that hungry. But I was so pleasantly surprised. The one downside was that the food took a really long time to come out, but the chef mentioned that it was because he was unexpectedly working alone that night. We’ve all been there, so I was patient. The sushi was fresh, super tasty, and reasonably priced(on par with other sushi in the area). It really hit the spot. Will return!

It is a rare treat when you find a place that has fresh sushi and prices that aren’t sky high. This place has both and is a true gem of Baltimore. It is a little bit off of the beaten path, but only by a few blocks. It is located on a ‘colorful’ block near Fells Point. By colorful, I mean an adult shop and a gentleman’s club share the same block. We called a made a reservation, but ended up coming early and they were able to accommodate us easily. The service was prompt and friendly throughout dinner, and a big plus was the fact that it is BYOB. We sat in the dining area but there is a long sushi bar that had several occupants. We ordered a chef special and some interesting sounding rolls, and away we went! I will definitely be coming back.

Located on one of the more ‘interesting’ blocks of Broadway, nestled next to an adult toy store, ‘smoking supply’ hut and full on strip club. It’s easy to overlook Asahi. In fact, please do so, so I can keep it to myself. This place is excellent. Generous portions/fresh ingredients and POWERFUL wasabi. Prices are much better than other places around and the place is BYOB. Get the Broadway Roll!

All bow down before the best damn sushi place in Baltimore. Asahi Sushi is an unassuming BYOB sushi joint on S. Broadway Street, which is as dirty as it is sketchy. Hell, even the inside isn’t exactly mind-blowing — it’s clean, neat, and looks like a good sushi place, but it’s not amazing. What makes Asahi Sushi good is the food, which is freakin’ transcendent. The salmon avocado roll is excellent, as is the yellowtail roll. The Unagi Donburi is as tender as it is delicious. The chicken teriyaki, despite the name invoking bad memories of crappy mall-restaurant Japanese food, is filled with delicious and fresh vegetables and perfectly cooked chicken. The bulgoki is tender and amazing. Hell, even the appetizers — miso soup and a small salad with a sesame dressing — are amazing. You cannot go wrong at this place, and I mean it — they know what they are doing, and deliver beyond your wildest dreams. I can’t recommend this place enough, either for dining in or taking out. The takeout is quick, so it’s an easy choice no matter where you are in Baltimore. Regardless of whether you eat in or take out, the staff are courteous, quick, and kind. This is a BYOB joint — i.e. it does not have a liquor license — so be sure to bring your own booze if you do elect to dine in. And, on top of all of that, the place is super affordable. You can’t beat that value.
