Our father passed on last week. We were unfortunately unprepared as to where we would hold the wake. Like most people, we went to the closest funeral home to us, geographically. The cost was a shock and not only that, we felt that the funeral director was using sales techniques similar to a car salesman.
Fortunately, we walked out and went home to think before we wrote a large check. My mother called St. Francis hospital and asked for a recommendation. They suggested Fullerton Funeral Home in Baldwin NY. We met with Matt Fritz and were impressed by how kind, honest and helpful he was. The total cost of his arrangements was SUBSTANTIALLY less than the other funeral home. The room was larger, cleaner and nicer. Matt is the 4^th generation of this family owned business. We cannot thank him and his mother-​in-​law Barbara enough for helping us get through this difficult time. They genuinely care about people and it shows.
I am not sure who might read this. Who looks at Unilocal for funeral home recommendations? But I hope this finds someone in the same need as we were and helps them when they need it most. When you lose a loved one, you are in a vulnerable position and it can be easy to be taken advantage of. Wonderful family and friends have maintained this place for many years. Both mom and my brother Ken had their wakes here, and both were as comforting as could be. This was, geographically speaking, ground zero in Ken’s life.
