Nichols Lumber & Hardware

I was sent by my contractor with a list of lumber that I needed. I’m definitely no expert besides knowing what the basic lumber studs are. I walked in and was immediately greeted by Tyrone Smith. He was very helpful, knowledgeable and help me purchase the items within a few minutes. Will definitely be back here for my lumber needs!

I’m glad that a firm like Nichols has had success and remained in our greater area for so long. I hope they continue to do so and bring money to our community.
However, I wish that they would get it over with and put up a sign that says, ‘Contractors Only’. The other option would be, ‘If you have a bill of material, leave it at the desk (otherwise don’t bother)’.They aren’t unkind, just indifferent and only want to deal in volume.
Went there today to ask about post and rail fencing. Was asked do you want wood? Not sure what that was about because we did come tot a lumber yard! If we wanted to see some options we were to go out back and find a guy in a green shirt who could show us something.
Net result, no guy out back and we where finally told they don’t stock post and rail fencing. But they could get us a quote. Great if you don’t care to see whet your are buying.
Too bad for the homeowner, but just don’t bother here anymore. It isn’t cost effective to help you unless you have a large order.

My experience with Nichols Lumber has been hit or miss.
Some of the staff are friendly and professional, while some have surprised me in how unprofessionally they act. I’ve had one staff answer questions without making eye contact. When I bought some plywood and paid to have it cut, the man who cut it couldn’t do basic addition, tried to get out doing all the cuts I paid for, and ruined part of the wood (at my expense).
They do have some wood I can’t find anywhere else, so they have that going for them. Otherwise I’d really rather go to Ganahl Lumber.
