We all drive down 178 through the canyon to get to Isabela or Kernville and not pay much attention to the hills on the side. Jar trail is located at the entrance/mouth of the canyon. Where ever you park, make sure the isn’t a no parking sign to avoid getting a ticket. Jar trail is only about 2 miles in each direction, but it sure does kick your butt. It is a very steep trail, if I am correct, this trail is only a little over 3 thousand feet in elevation. Keep in mind Bakersfied is about 445 elevation. So you climb about 2500ft elevation in just 2 miles. Make sure to bring good shoes with grip to keep your feet from slipping(no fancy hiking shoes required) also make sure you bring water and maybe some snacks to enjoy when you get to the top. Just please always make sure to pick up your trash, don’t be a litter bug. If you plan to stay late in the day and hike back down in the dark, just make sure you bring a good flashlight. Enjoy, happy hiking ;)
