Don Ricardo’s Restaurant

Very very disappointing, the food was definitely not worth it. No flavor at all the hot «salsa» was not even hot. The chicken was under seasoned, the whole plate needed hot sauce just to eat. The service was terrible. Unprofessional and rude servers. Over staffed for such little occupied tables. They were literally just standing around. The desert was horrible got the apple burrito and it was disappointing. The apple tasted it of a can very gross and the «burrito» tasted like an egg roll shell. For the price the bill was definitely disappointing. The chimichangas came with chicken inside again no flavor and wrap in the weird egg roll tasting shell. This was disappointing Mexican food. How people still even go here… I’m shocked… There’s way better spots that actually taste better.

If you don’t like this place than you dont like authentic Mexican food and I suggest you stick with taco bell.

Nice lighting and great service. Food is average but great for a family dinner or date night

Aughhh if you like canned mango this place is for you service was slow and food was ok at best
The beer selection does not match the menu they carry nothing except crap off brand beer
The coffee is either Mexican or regular they can not make cappuccino or Irish coffee the dessert was canned mango and a scoop of vanilla ice cream none of our meals were close to worth eating and staff just pick them up with no concern that the entire meal was still on the plate
Stay away not good place is old and run down

I’ve been there 3 times, and had great food and excellent drinks. Going back tonight, can’t wait!

Stay away! Ate here for first time last night and got food poisoning. Will never go back ever. Unfortunately wound up eating here bc Swell taco was crowded with a long wait and we had to be somewhere by 7:30 so it wasn’t even our first choice which makes it even more unfortunate.

I am reading these reviews thinking… they must have written after the drinks! Horrible salsa if u want to call it that… not freshly made obvious jar version. Fajitas were horrible… bad steak cut. atmosphere really pretty. So drink don’t eat here.

Well to get specific it was my boyfriends, brothers, fiancées birthday. We wanted to try a new Mexican restaurant. Remind you we are about 30 minutes from Babylon. So we decided to try Don Ricardo’s as a friend recommended it. I made an 8pm reservation for a Saturday night for 5 people. They were very accommodating when I called that evening and said we were running 10 minutes late and actually only 4 people. When we arrived the restaurant was busy and loud, but there was still available tables and didn’t seem to have a wait.
When we were seating and since we were celebrating a birthday, I «went to the bathroom» A.K.A i went up to the bartender and the server and asked «Can you please sing happy birthday to my friend when it is time?» They asked who she was so I pointed her out and they said no problem. **Keep this in mind for later…**
We were greeted with chips and salsa. Yum! Salsa was good, a little spicy, but the only down side was that it was VERY warm. As if it was under a heater. I like my salsa cold, so I’m not sure if this is the usual or not.
We all ordered a round of frozen margaritas. Very tasty, but WEAK and tasted very watery. Also, very liquidy, not too thick. So it got messy and sticky quick.
We then decided to start with an appetizer of Guacamole. Being that we’ve had table side guac from other restaurants, our expectations were set high. This guac was served in a very small side dish. It was pretty good, but I’ve had better. I probably wouldn’t get it again from here.
For our meals… I ordered chicken and cheese quesadillas which were cut into little bite size portions, since it was an appetizer. Very good! It came with guac and sour cream. Couldn’t eat it all so I wrapped the rest. My boyfriend and his brother had the Skirt Steak and Enchilada combo with rice and beans. They ate it all. Was probably the perfect portion for them. Said that the steak needed some kind of sauce or something though since it was a little dry. And then the brother’s fiancée had shrimp tacos with rice (has a gluten allergy.) She enjoyed hers as well.
So now they clear our plates and give us dessert menus. We were actually pretty stuffed and decided to do another drink instead. We ordered 3 frozen margaritas WITH AN EXTRA HOUSE SHOT. They bring the margaritas out, but they had the shot on the side with lime… as if we were taking an ACTUAL shot. But what we really wanted was the shot in the margaritas since they were so weak. Once again, this may be me being picky but if I wanted to take a shot I would’ve said so but we said IN the margarita. Not sure if there was some sort of miscommunication.
I guess since we did not order dessert they did not want to sing happy birthday. Or maybe they forgot. Who knows. But this was VERY disappointing since I specifically spoke to them about this EARLIER.
Since my boyfriend and I were treating them for the birthday, we weren’t extremely happy with what we just paid due to the service. The bill was $ 168 and then we had to tip. Paying around $ 100 each, we should have been extremely happy, but sadly we were not.
I would really like to like this place, it was so cute inside! But the service was just not right. Debating about going back to give it another try.

Beautiful atmosphere, delicious sangria, delicious chips and salsa. Top 5 Mexican restaurants coming from someone whose favorite food is Mexican. Always wonderful service and accommodating for reservations. Nice options for creating your own combos.

I’ve been coming to Don Ricardo’s for years and I absolutely love it. If you want authentic Mexican & Spanish cuisine, this is the place. The atmosphere and décor is beautiful, on both floors. My favorite things are the guacamole and the chicken enchiladas. They come out perfect every time and I always look forward to coming back for the food. The only setback is that sometimes they bring out the food extremely quickly for my taste; I like to sit awhile eating the guac. Their seafood soup is also delicious, nachos too. The sangria is great and they fill it with fruit. I think the best and most simple thing they serve is their salsa. I see others say it’s watery but it’s just the kind of salsa they prepare and if you taste it you will know it is housemade with fresh diced veggies. The salsa with their chips — so yummy!

Been coming here for years and just had the worst service experience. No waiter around ever. Drinks never refilled. Waited 40m for food. They messed up the bill and said fixing it was «a lot of work» and rolled their eyes. I’m super bummed because I really liked this place.

Went twice, both times with friends. Very very disappointed. Service was terrible. Food was ok, but I’d not boast about it. Put it this way, we will never go back to this place ever again.

Been going there for years, if you enjoy this kind of food and atmosphere this is the place for you.

I came to eat here on the recommendations of a couple of coworkers. My favorite thing aBout this restaurant is the décor aNd location. The service is good and the staff is friendly, food is just okay. kind of disappointed with instant rice.

Don Ricardo’s. Last night was helped by Don Ricardo. We were in the mood for Mexican, and Donny boy came through… still, not the best I’ve had but they do well at a pretty good price. The atmosphere and service is great; got my meal at lightning fast speed even though it was a crowded place. We will be going back, I’m just hoping I pick something great next time…
I think I’m going to have to stop comparing all mexican to an unknown place in California I can’t remember… but, it was so sensational I need a place to match it…
Don Ricardo wasn’t it but it was still pretty good.

Great food and service… Their salsa and chips are the best… Also the coconut margarita

I had not been here in a while and went tonight. It was disappointing. I really used to like it but it was not tasty and my stomach felt mmmm blah… Afterwards.
Chips and salsa were very processed and salty.
Our meals were very plain including the ground beef and refried beans. One part of my dish ended up having cream cheese, I have never had cream cheese in a Mexican dish.
Wish I didn’t have to say this. But not worth it. I would have much rather been at another favorite place in Oakdale.

I’ve come here a bunch of times over the years and the food and drinks are nice and consistent. I always start with a margarita or sangria, always nice and refreshing!
The portions are generous and cheap, you really can’t beat their prices. The food is always great, I love their chicken burritos.
The service is always attentive and friendly. All in all a pretty good place to try.

The food is sooooo tasty!!! I ordered the steak with a side of rice, beans, guacamole & sour cream! It was so much that I only got to finish the steak. The restaurant is so pretty & the decorations made me feel HAPPY

We were taken upstairs and to our surprise it looked like a Spanish vineyard! It was great!
Ordered a pitcher of the red sangria, super tasty :)
An order of guacamole (see picture) was ordered and it was kinda small for the price but was good (could have used some salt though)
I ordered the shrimp, steak and chicken fajitas which was ~$ 20 I think but I would definitely order it again!
Looking forward to visiting this restaurant again :)
