Very friendly staff, food is freshly prepared and always clean… family and i love it here!

What a great idea! Veggies, noodles(or rice) and some sauce! BAM! A generous portion too! Great option for a quick meal.

Calling this a Korean restaurant is a misnomer. Not authentic at all. It was an American rice bowl fast food place.

I had a good experience but the food was just OK. I found my dish to be somewhat flavorless. I will go back again and see if I can try something else. I wanted to love it after all the reviews I saw.

Not much of an eat-in ambience but extremely clean, excellent service(for a counter order place), and delicious food at a good price point. We decided the hot stone bowl made things TOO hot, so we get our bibimbap in their regular bowls. We tried the soup recently and it was delicious also. The spicy chicken is very spicy but we can handle it. So clean, and it can be healthy too, especially when you choose lots of vegetables. A great inexpensive meal and a warming meal when it’s cold out too!

Delicious! I’ve wanted to get out to the West Hartford location, but only got to the Avon restaurant today. It’s a small dining area where you can grab a quick meal. The lunch special was a good pick(tofu, chicken or beef with a selection of brown, white or sweet potato noodle, any vegetable from the list and 4 sauces to choose from). It’a a large portion! The lunch special gets you a small bowl of miso soup, which was just okay and a drink. The cook/server was super nice and polite. I can’t wait to try to the dumplings, soups and chicken wings from the menu. I think I’ve just found my new favorite«fast» food place in the area! Looking forward to going back.

Having lived in Seoul for four years I was kinda skeptical that Avon would have good Korean takeout. But this place always is great and has great service. It’s perfect too if you are vegan. Lots of fresh veggies! I’m happy to have Pick n Mix here!

This place is great! Similar to subway, you are able to build your own bowl with your own choices of noodles or rice, vegetables, protein and sauces. Seeing that it was my first time visiting, I asked for help along the way. Justin working at the counter was incredible and SO friendly. He took the time to explain everything to me and checked in afterwards to make sure I liked my selection. He even offered me a free drink since it was my first time visiting! He deserves more than 5 stars himself. I ended up with sweet potato noodles, all of the vegetables, tofu and a mix of the teriyaki, sesame and hot sauces. It was incredible! The miso soup that came with the meal was great as well. Service was fast and friendly and the food is fresh and flavorful. I will DEFINITELY be returning!

We had the bowls, I was impressed with how fresh the food was and how well cooked it was; it wasn’t at all greasy or oily. You get a lot of food for your money, and all of it was delicious. We can’t wait to come back.

I would give this 4.5 if I could! I went to west Hartford one first and thought it was 3/5, but this place is so much better! Go for lunch: $ 9.41 total for a bowl of whatever pick your own and comes with miso soup and soda. No tip required but they do bring food to table for you! Good sized portion and will get you full for sure! No doubts about that! Service: friendly and fast! Everything is microwaved I believe so less than 5 minutes, unless you get it in the stone bowl which takes longer. Environment: casual. Quick eats. About 4 – 5 tables but never packed that you can’t find seats. I was always able to have seats during lunch time. Chill and relaxing environment. Simple and clean is all it is aiming for. Place: parking available. No worries for that.

I’ve been to Pick and Mix three times and gotten the bi bim bab each time, with different ingredients. I am a sort-of vegetarian, so I get the tofu. The sweet potato noodles are my favorite, and my favorite sauce so far is a mix of sesame oil and the soy lemon sauce. YUM. My young daughter can also eat here, because the dishes are so customizable. The people working behind the counter are super friendly, though the first time I went in I was a little stressed out with the ordering because it goes so FAST. But that’s just me. They don’t pressure you or anything. The restaurant is small but not cramped, and there is a table outside to eat at in nice weather. The food is really delicious, with great prices and service.

Still one of my favorite spots for a healthy meal at a great price. They’ve really impressed me every time I have stopped in. The short ribs are delicious as are the the dumplings, I highly recommend the sweet potato noodles as well. Spicy chicken is actually spicy, you’ve been warned. Hot paste is hot, you’ve been warned. Both are spicy but incredible with heat and flavor to enjoy.

Think Subway for Korean food, and you have Pick and Mix. But it is SOMUCHMORE than that. It is SOGOSHDARNROOTINTOOTIN good, I can’t stop thinking about this place, and I went there over a month ago. I think the thing to note is that the restaurant is rather small, I think for the purposes that it is primarily take-out. However, I will say that my stir-fry was piping hot, so perhaps a ride home wouldn’t have been the worst thing in the world. My boyfriend was stationed in Korea for the military for a time, and saw an item on the menu that he used to love to get from a takeout place that was by his base: bogucki. It’s a stir fried ground beef dish that comes in a really nice marinade. I had a few pieces and was a little obsessed with it, which apparently my boyfriend agreed with. I, however, got the«Pick and Mix» special and where I think they got their name– A rice bowl where you pick the protein(I believe it was a choice of spicy or regular chicken, tofu, spicy or regular pork, and beef), the type of rice(brown or white), the various vegetables they have(that you can see) on the counter, and the sauce. I told the attendant that I wanted a rice bowl with the spicy chicken, after reading some Unilocal reviews. The attendant hesitated, and then asked if I really liked spicy food. I told him I did, but he didn’t seem convinced. He offered me a piece to be sure. I’m not offended, that’s not why I’m saying this. I think it really says a lot about a restaurant when they want you to be happy with what you order, so much that they are aware that«spicy» means«SUPERSPICY» and they want you to go into your rice bowl with your eyes wide open(and lips still have feeling). It’s really good, sweet spicy that’s a slow burn. But this is no joke folks, it’s the real deal. Here is the problem: I loved it, I wanted more of it. But it’s so spicy, that paired with the actual hot temperature of the food makes this slow burn ALMOST intolerable. However, when I took the rest of it home and ate it cold the next day, it was DELICIOUS. I have been dreaming about it ever since. I would go back every day if it wasn’t such a far drive. I loved the food, I loved the atmosphere(it’s kitschy and quaint), I loved the service. GOEATHERE.

This place is awesome!!! I love it. Staff is super nice and friendly. The food is always very fresh and each dish is consistently the same with great flavor. For those who like it hot, they have added fresh cut jalapenos and you can request a hot hot sauce if you are interested in kicking up the heat. I usually get the sweet potato noodles and all vegetables. Extra sriracha and some teriyaki is a great mix. Love this place!

This place gives you what other places just can’t. It’s a «go to» pick up restaurant for a few reasons: 1) the service is as efficient as it is courteous. The gentleman who helps us each time often who wears the under armor hoodie is a genuinely awesome guy. 2) the food is simple, tasty, and clean because it is steamed. I have never felt guilty but always felt satisfied. 3) the prices are reasonable. Not cheap, not expensive, they fit the meal. Never a bad experience or any regrets going there. Great, dependable, neighborhood pick up food.

A neat find for a small town. Pick and Mix is a fun place to get some yummy Korean food given the run on Korean joints in the Valley. The menu is fairly limited as the restaurant specializes in bi bim bap which is totally customizable from noodle/rice type to meat selection. Prices are fairly good too with a $ 9 lunch special you don’t want to miss. Lunch special comes with a hearty serving(portions are large here) of your choice of bi bim bap with a side of miso soup and kimchi. First-timers get a free drink while others pay only $ 1 add-on fee. My only complaint is their kimchi. For being a Korean restaurant, their kimchi is lackluster. The cabbage is too fresh and hasn’t been fermented enough leaving the kimchi to have a crunchy consistency and the seasoning unable to stick. I also hope Pick and Mix expands their menu in the future and offers some more traditional Korean dishes to choose from.

You can tell. You can tell when you walk in and get a warm genuine smile and a «welcome» that really means«We’re glad to see you, thank you for your business». You can tell by the patient customer service given to those who need help ordering. You can tell by the samples of sauces freely given to help undecided patrons decide. You can tell by all of the above, that this place is stellar, that the food is gonnna be great, and that the management and workers really want to please you. The successful Pick and Mix in West Hartford has jumped into the transporter room and has been beamed about seven miles to the west, into an Old Avon Village storefront previously occupied by Good2Go. On a cold Saturday night, we had a small wait ahead of us, but the line moved quickly –really not too different from a typical per person wait at Subway. The young guy making the bibimbap bowls was very friendly and had a great personality. It seemed as though a lot of the patrons were here for the first time, so he had a lot of explaining to do about how things worked, and we saw him doling out a lot of small samples of the finishing sauces. We ordered three bowls of bibimbap(8.95 each), an order of steamed shrimp dumplings $ 4.45), and an order of the plain crispy chicken wings($ 8.95 for 8). We also asked for some kimchi which is complimentary, but you have to ask for it. The bowls come with a small cup of miso soup, which was good, but really-have you ever had a bowl of GREAT miso soup? I thought not. The dumplings were good but not crazy good. But oh my word, were the chicken wings stellar. Crispy. Juicy. Flavorful. Meaty. Among the best I’ve had in a real long time. No exaggeration guys, they were excellent. We ordered them plain & crispy, and they also have sweet, mild hot, and hot. My spicy chicken bibimbap was ordered with brown rice and everything except egg. I had the hot paste with soy lemon finish. Man oh man, was this great. Seriously great –flavorful, great meat to veggie to rice proportion(plenty of meat). So when I look at the wonderful customer service, the friendly management and employees, the really good value, and the delicious food, this is a no-brainer 5 stars. I’m so glad to have Pick & Mix so close to where I live. I suspect we’ll be there on a regular basis.

Yay! Pick and Mix is over the mountain in Avon. If you like the original in West Hartford, it’s the same deal. Owned by a brother of the owner, it’s got all the favorites of Bi-Bim-Bop and Bulgolgi. They even have some kimchee if you ask nicely. Friendly and quick service, it’s the perfect meal to eat in or to go. Here’s a secret though: The chicken wings are terrific. Overall, a big plus for the valley.
