Kohl’s

I really want to like Kohl’s more. But I just don’t.
As I mentioned in my award-​winning review of Target, there are «Target people» and there are «Kohl’s people.» I simply cannot be a Kohl’s person.
I visited yesterday to try to find a dress for a rehearsal dinner. The store was clean and shiny and well-​stocked. But it made me uneasy. The employees were not so helpful, though they were awfully chatty — especially with each other while I was waiting to ask one of them a question. But a nice woman with a tongue ring did point me in the direction of the Ladies’ room.
Nice bathrooms. Nice dressing rooms, and plenty of ‘em. They even have labels over the rods in the dressing rooms that say «Like it», «Love it», and «Back on the Rack» — which is genius, in my opinion. There’s never a good system for figuring out what you’re taking, what you’re considering, and what you’d like to throw into a fire because of the way it makes you look.
Unfortunately, all my selections would have gone into the «burning fire» pile yesterday. Nothing looked good, and they really didn’t have any formal wear anyway. So it would have been out of desperation that I picked something from here and then tried to dress it up with accessories. Not worth it, in my opinion, even if they do have «Simply Vera» by Vera Wang.
I’m not saying you’ll hate Kohl’s. You might even love it. I, however, do not.

Kohl’s, I thought you were OK. You have great deals on boxer shorts and socks, really the only articles of clothing I’ve purchased since college. (Maybe I should work on that.) But every single pair of shoes I’ve purchased from you have fallen apart in less than three months. Is that why they’re so inexpensive? I’m not some wearin’-out-my-shoes monster or anything. I mean, I sit down for most of the day. And whether it’s business shoes, boat shoes, sandals or athletic shoes, there’s always something wrong with them. Maybe I should just make my own shoes from now on (or go someplace else).

I like the selection and the sales that they have at this store. I like their jewelry section. It is nice.
