Vons went through quite a battle to get permission and permits to build a proper market. After years of red tape and island opposition construction is about to begin. They still paint and repair their two island stores and keep them stocked with their biggest selling items. A few shitty attitude employees need to be sacked. Rotten to customers because they feel like it. Been this way for years. Yes, they do get punched by customers. If you ask for cash with your ATM purchase expect a shitty, insulting attitude from the checker and probably a refusal for no reason. No ATM fees if you manage to pull it off. Produce quality a flip of a coin. Some locals joke it goes bad by the time you reach the checkstand. As small as the stores are you can still find 75% of the normal items a full sized Vons would have. Best to shop Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Yep, your Von’s /Safeway Club is good here but the checker will get impatient when you attempt to use it. Some big specials not available here because of limited shipping and stocking space. OK prices all things considered.

This VONS is not like any other VONS, but I suppose its what you would expect for a small place like Avalon. Its very small for a VONS, and if I find myself in need of groceries while in Avalon, this will be my stop.

This was our first trip to Catalina so we stopped off to get groceries to stock our condo during our stay, however, this review really isn’t about the grocery store because what can I say it’s a market, you get what you need and go. This review is about an employee named Alma. She truly loves her job, and was very courteous and kind and it radiates in her attitude. This store is lucky to have such a gem working for them!

Not-bad selection of stuff at prices that won’t make you faint. This particular Vons supposed to be HAUNTED so it’s fun to ask the staff if that’s true or not – from what I’ve heard there it is. No ghosts have followed me back to the hotel YET, at least that I know of.

Serves its purpose while on the island. I stayed at Catalina Island Inn which was really convenient for my trip here. Surprisingly prices aren’t overpriced which is really nice. The aisles are narrow so be mindful to others.

Michael didn’t give me 2 cents after I gave him $ 2.10 for the total of $ 2.08! Haha no big deal — a pretty small place stacked with items but it was cute in a way. I would like to see how things are if I get the chance to come back to Catalina

Good for the basics, and prices look typical to most LA prices. It’s a bit on the smaller side, but we found everything we needed here.

This is the place to go when your on an island and don’t want to keep calling room service. TIP… Buy something here and get up to 300 cash back skip the ATM fees since there isn’t much variety besides US bank.

Vons O Organics are available. We grabbed organic snow peas, cauliflower and broccoli florets and Driscoll’s organic blackberries. Keep snacks healthy and fresh every day.

Everyone in this store works hard. I give EJ five stars, if you have seen her work, she runs every Where in that store. If someone needs some thing she’s always on it. Have I never seen her be rude. She works hard and dose her job fast and beat she can. she is the fastest checker. If you want out fast her line would be the one.

Get ready for the craziest shopping experience you’ve ever had. You think the grocery store on the mainland is crazy hahahaa I will challenge you on that with this crazy store. This place can give you instant anxiety. The shelves are stacked sky high and some stuff looks like it may just fall on your head. Crazy drunk people attempting to shop results in bumper carts down each isle. Every now and then you will see a weird ass standing in the middle of the aisle staring off into space. Maybe they’re meditating who knows but it’s crrrrrazy in here. The employees are so sweet and friendly and very helpful. The meat selection seems sketchy and not very fresh. We did buy some meat and bbq’d it without any sickness but you will see what I mean it’s a bit gross looking. This is the kind of grocery store you have nightmares about. Tiny store and a ton of people all around you, scavengers reaching across you for the last pack of bagels, drunks with carts creating assaults all over the place it’s crazy. It’s an experience you should try it will make you appreciate any store you have at home that you might think is crazy now.

I dislike shopping at Vons when I’m in my neighborhood since it’s expensive compared to other grocery stores but after lots of money being spent on the ship ride, ziplining, parasailing, and restaurant dinners, Vons seems so cheap. The Vons in Avalon are the same prices as on the mainland(I started using this word since I heard it used by the Avalon residents)! Great way to save money while not starving. Although really small compared to mainland Vons, they have a bit of everything so you still have a lot of choices to pick from. Buy food here and have picnics by the beach. It’s convenient and a great way to save money(eg buy water here and bring bottles to restaurants. Restaurants sell water in bottles for $ 0.50). There is also a «Vons Express» a couple of streets away. If you have a Vons membership, you can use that here too to save even more money.

A tiny Vons in a tiny city on a tiny island. Or something like that. They take your safeway club card though.

I’ve always lived next to a Vons. Maybe because they are on an island, but they are so small & seem not too carry everything that I want? There are also two Vons, maybe one that sells groceries and the other that sells alcohol and stuff. Not sure how to explain, but I do wish it was full sized.

This place would be 5 out of 5 if t weren’t for EJ’s rude little attitude! Get it together or stay home! Everything else was awesome This place is so cute.

Its the place to go get random items you might need during your stay while visiting the island. prices are the same as a gas station abit higher than a regular mainland vons. this vons was messy, customer service its quite bad and older cashier lady was quite rude to some customers. we were goi. g to skip her but decided to go on her lane. we greeted her nicely no response oh man tough cookie oh well, I went next day and she was shouting at some teens haha. I say 1⁄5 not much good and employee s should work on they social service skill or just quit and go else where. and as a visitor go to the other quick vons its just better!

OKAY! After arriving in Avalon, my girlfriends and I were not quite sure where to pick up some snacks, food, drinks and utensils for our few days in Catalina. We walked around trying to figure out what kind of grocery stores Catalina actually had, and lo and behold… VONS popped up right before our eyes. Boy, did it feel good to see a familiar name! I never really shop at Vons back at home, but it was SO good to see this place! It’s actually kind of small(hence only 4 stars), but it was perfect for our few days there. I think we made a stop at Vons every day we were there! The cashiers were always friendly(it seems like everyone who works at Catalina is always happy). In Catalina and need groceries or drinks? Have no fear! VONSISHERE!!!

Was surprised to see a Von’s store on the island. Bought some supplies for our 2 night stay. Normally, I do not shop at Vons grocery stores because they are usually more expensive than the competition. Here on Catalina Island, though, having this Vons was a treat. They pretty much have everything you’ll need here for your stay on the island. Also, the employees were helpful and friendly as well. Oh and just like on the mainland. This Vons will accept your Vons Club or Safeway Club cards. So, you can avail of the lower prices. Yeah, I’m a fan of this particular Vons branch.

Quaint little grocer. It’s about all you can ask for on an island like Catalina. The woman who bagged our items was super friendly and very sweet. The fella who checked us out was a bit sour and seemed like we were a chore. The sweet woman saves this place, good job missy!!!

Wonder where the Avalon locals buy their groceries? This is the best choice in town! If you want to purchase ingredients for your sandwiches or microwavable products for an economically priced lunch or dinner, you can purchase familiar products here and spare yourself the cost of a much more expensive restaurant dinner, using those resources for other vacation or travel expenses. Its location on Metropole Avenue, across the street from the Atwater Arcade(in which you’ll find the post office), is easy find. Briefly, this Von’s Market is a budget-stretcher for the Avalon visitor.
