I have mixed feeling about Yards by Roman. I was looking for someone to install sods and two raised bed garden in my back yard. Pros: 1. the co-owner Amy is very responsive, came to my house for estimate the day after I contacted her. 2. Amy is very flexible. I had some last minute changes and she accommodated my schedule. Really appreciate her flexibility. 3. Their price is reasonable, not the cheapest one but reasonable. Cons: 1. Quality of work: I can find the sods are not quite installed in the same quality as some of my neighbors who use larger landscaping companies. There are lots of missing spot and I have to later cover those myself with some spare sods I ask them to left me. 2. Crew: I chat with two guys who came with the 3 men crew for the installation. They both had never done any yard work before(the third guy doesn’t speak English so I don’t know his background). They are more like«handy men» than landscaper. 3. Material used. I let Amy to buy all the material needed for the raised bed garden. 6 weeks after the installation, I found lots of chipped, cracked and broken limestone used on the raised bed garden. I don’t know if it’s normal but 6 weeks after installation? I doubt it’s normal. Email Amy 4 days ago, haven’t heard from her(maybe due to holiday), but will update if I get any feedback. My conclusion. Amy is definitely a nice person. If you have lots of knowledge about yard/garden and just need some handy men to do the work for you, I will say go ahead and hire them. However, if you are like me who really need someone to know the stuff about yard and landscaping, maybe get a few more quotes and reference before making any decision.

Being a first time home owner, I am not used to doing yard work. I recently had a pedicure so I probably shouldn’t do yard work. I don’t even know how to turn on a lawn mower so I’m pretty sure I’d be bad at yard work. Those are the excuses I gave myself when I was debating on either helping Hubs fix up the backyard or hiring someone to fix it for me. I went with the latter. Obviously. This talk thread ensued: Long story short: I wanted a big, slightly elevated flower bed that ran the entire length of my back fence gone. It was filled with weeds, I didn’t have the patience to maintain it, and my dogs could always use more pooping room. I needed the decorative stones, bushes, and mulch removed. The dirt needed to be leveled, and new grass needed to be put in. «That doesn’t sound too bad,» my coworker said, «Just dig up the bushes and dirt and lay down some sod.» «Oh, ok… err, what’s sod?» «Ann, that’s the grass.» «Oh.» And that’s when I decided to hire someone. After calling tons of companies(leaving messages with some and talking to some), Yards by Roman told me they would beat my current lowest offer. No Unilocal reviews? I requested references. References came back positive. Sold. I was in touch with both Roman and his wife, Emily. They answered every single question I had, and I honestly don’t think it took more than a few hours for someone to respond to an email(and I sent a lottt of emails). Since I sent a picture, they were able to give me quote right away; they later negotiated to beat another offer. Emily was here to check out the backyard in person within a few days, and here we are, just six days after initial contact, and my backyard is already done! Ding, dong, the flower bed’s dead!
