One of the few driving ranges in North Austin with a friendly staff and plenty of space to hit off the mats in the shade, as well as grassy areas. A complete repair/retail/lessons shop is located on the premises owned by a fantastic Master Club Builder/instructor, Gabe McGrew.(See Gabe McGrew Golf). It is a great place to work on your golf game and service your equipment needs all in one stop!

The best range I have been to on this side of Austin.

The range balls are hard, the chipping green too small. Putting green poor upkeep. I stopped going after finding it closed three different times. Once due to rain another it was cold and the third time I don’t know. I like to go hit balls at a place that is consistently open, like Avery Ranch. They have way better practice facilities and are cheaper.

Near Lake Travis, and north of the teeming metropolis of Dripping Springs, an otherwise ordinary driving range made special by the pro, Joel Lander, a great teacher and diagnostician. Joel has a way of putting you at ease, in keeping with the casual, friendly atmosphere cited by the other reviewer. If you’re in the area and want to unwind and hit a few, this is a great little place.

Woodland Greens is a casual, friendly driving range near my house. As a brand new golfer, I answered a Craigslist ad from a pro advertising lessons that he gives at the center. I went to take the lesson and have since been back just to hit a bucket of balls for practice. The facility is small but the people are friendly. Joel Lander, the resident pro, is a great instructor. In just two lessons I was hitting the ball consistently and learning the fundamentals of a good swing. I think this is a great spot for a beginner to hit some balls for practice in a low pressure, casual environment. On the weekends, lots of golfers of all ages and skill levels are out practicing. I recommend going weekday evenings and early weekend mornings.
