TSA Checkpoint 3 – Austin-Bergstrom International Airport

The WORST experience with TSA ever! Unbelievable.
As soon as I arrived home from Mexico, the gate agent for our flight informed us that we needed to go directly to a new gate since our flight was re-​routed. After going THROUGH security, they spent 15+ minutes frisking my friend and searching her bags.
They also yelled at me for staying in the security area! My mind is blown.

The line for rapiscan was significantly longer than the line for x-​raying bags. I notified the TSA employee that I was uncomfortable leaving my possessions out of site for an unnecessary amount of time, and that I would wait to put my bags on the belt until the line was reasonable. The employee had non tolerance for what I felt was a reasonable request and proceeded to have people skip past me in line.

Usually, this checkpoint can be crowded on the «primetime» morning and mid-​day flts, but even then I have never spent more than 30mins in a security line at this airport.
Even when it is crowded, the TSA agents are usually courteous and dare I say, treat you more humanely than a lot of other airports (trust me, I’ve experienced enough TSA horror stories to be able to appreciate the good ones!).
There is the full body scanner, but you can always request a pat down in lieu of «assuming the position».
What I do love is that ABIA is still small enough that on days like today, when there was literally no one in line, the whole security process from checking my ID and ticket to getting scanned and having my bags x-​rayed, literally, took all of 5mins.
