Excellent service. Helpful and entertaining. The food is also very good and at a reasonable price… not to mention fast, which was much appreciated. Hard to find all 3 of these qualities in most places.

They’ve really stepped up their game over the past few months, changing their cash register process during the lunch rush(no more sandwich makers handling cash, Re: comment below) and a noticeable overall improvement in service. I go to this location about once a week and really enjoy it. Their sandwiches are pretty solid, but this week I tried their soups for the first time… MAHGERD. Their SOUPS. I had the Red Bean and Rice soup on Tuesday and it hit the spot so well I came back on Thursday hoping to get it again, but alas, they only had the Southwestern White Bean as a vegetarian option. ONLYHADSOUTHWESTERNWHITEBEAN!?! I will never utter that sentence again. That soup is ridiculously delicious, a creamy concoction seasoned to perfection. You just made a lifetime fan with that one. Bravo TC, BRA-VO.

Staying at the Hampton across the street and went for quick lunch. Received good food, quick service, friendly staff, and really priced to not hurt your wallet. Recommend you try for yourself. You will enjoy!

I loved the atmosphere. The service was excellent and plenty of gentleman to take everyone’s orders. The menu has an assortment of old school salad sandwiches and lunch meats. For $ 7.50 I got a chicken club on white. The sandwiches are made in front of you, but you can’t see it. The counter is too tall. The gentleman making my sandwich asked if I wanted provolone or American, mustard or mayo, veggies(iceberg lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion) and if I want dressing and pepper. I got everything but onions. My issues 1. Onions still made their sad arrival despite asking for no onions 2. The avocado was mashed and I prefer it sliced 3. The bacon was tasty Overall, the service was fast and friendly. The sandwich was just ok with its onions and mashed avocado. I would return if I was in the area, but it’s not my favorite.

Listen up sandwichinians, Thundercloud subs aims to satisfy, but not please. I will let you, the reader of this review, make the distinction. A great, diverse menu, a consistently nice eating environment, and a price point to match. The sandwich artisans are polite and do their best given the quality of ingredients they have to work with, which is not the bestest but infinitely better than most of your average chains. It’ll satiate your sandwich fix, but prolly not the sandwich you will crave. For what its worth, the beard ratio is high at this place. Go.

I work downtown, as does my best friend. We decided to meet at Thundercloud for a little lunch to catch up with other. We ordered our food no problems. We finished lunch and we fixing to leave when a HUGE rat was discovered under our table. I’m not talking about a small little mouse — this was bigger than my hand! Truly disgusting. My next call is to the Health Department. Will not be going back here.

The service is pretty good, sandwiches have to say are alright. I worked next to this location for 5 yrs and tried everything. Have to say I got burnt out quickly. Can only eat the chef salad now.

Had class today and one hour for lunch. The crew and I head over and even with a long line, the service was pretty quick. This is the second or third time I’ve been here, and haven’t been disappointed. The staff is friendly and more than helpful, needless to say they get your order in and then have your sandwich made for you in super speed time. I always get the Austin, my favorite… some day soon, I’ll try something else on the menu, I’m sure whatever I choose I will not be disappointed.

Great sandwiches for the price. The separate ordering /preparation lines may be confusing for first-timers but are efficient and save space. The line may back out on to the sidewalk at peak lunch times, but moves fast. The folks that make your sandwiches are very friendly and personable. I’ve been eating at this Thundercloud location for several years and the employees don’t seem to change much.

This is the Thundercloud I go to most – it’s only a couple of blocks from where I work. Good, quick, friendly crew, fast service even when crowded, and the usual good sandwiches. I’m partial to the Nada Chicken and the meatball sub, though that doesn’t make much sense, I admit. I like the little outdoor nook you can eat in during nice weather. I do wish they had better choices at the soda machine – Pepsi products but no Mountain Dew? What the heck? And of course nothing healthy but water. I’m guessing most of the complaints are from folks who don’t understand the line system, which I admit gets confusing. Get in line to order, then get in line to get the sandwich made. Wait your turn.

I am a big fan of Thundercloud and I have a firm belief that Austin is really one of the few places in this country where an establishment like this could prosper. The food is unique, the service is all in all consistently fast and friendly. The questionable cleanliness and sanitary conditions are probably the only real concerns I have with this particular location. This is the Thundercloud that is near my office and if I had a choice I would certainly prefer to eat at the one near my house which doesn’t have those cleanliness problems.

Call me different, but I don’t like getting ill. I never have. Thundercloud Subs is cheap, but they don’t wear gloves. The guy making my sandwich just seemed dirty, and the place seemed grimy. Even Subway, where the meat is separated in paper and peeled onto your sandwich, uses gloves. So I can’t judge how the sandwich was, since I gave it to a homeless guy the second I left the store. I won’t be back.

Oh wow they serve food here? I figured they just ignored you for awhile and then finally hand you something that looks like a failed test from Subway University(and I hate subway). I will give them credit for this, they don’t over charge you for the small amount of meat they give you on sandwiches. So I felt cheated, but not screwed.

Yet another Austin eat I missed out in college because I was too busy buying boooooooze. I came here today for a little breakfast/lunch to-go. In a hurry and oh-so blind(couldn’t read the menu), I ordered the first thing Briana T suggested: The California Club(turkey, avocado, bacon and cheese, but 86 the bacon for me, por favor), all on my choice of freshly baked whole wheat bread. After you order, I like how you skedaddle over and get right in front of a sammy maker – each with their own tip jar – and they whip it up for you … fast. I have to say, Thundercloud kicks Jimmy John’s No. 12 Beach Club bikini bottom. 1) Because they have wheat bread and 2) because of the creamy avocado spread and zippy Thunder sauce …(but I do wish ThunderC offered sprouts. That, Jimmy John’s does have.) Two large sandwiches, two chips and two sodas for less than 15 bucks. Count us in again for next time, Thundercloud.

I work near the Capitol so this particular Thundercloud location is a pretty common lunch stop. The Nada Chicken and Nada Chicken parmesan are staples for me and they never disappoint. I can’t comment on the quality of their meats but the Nada Chicken is great and their bread is always fresh and delicious. I don’t see any drastic difference in the quality from location to location with Thundercloud subs. I’ve been to four different ones in Austin the quality is consistent.

On a fast-food sandwich kinda level, Thundercloud is still a decent basic go-to for an easy lunch. The Stoners are likely to mess up sometimes, but at least they aren’t assholes. Actually they are pretty funny, and a nice bunch of kids.(FYI the Lamar/Treadwell location is terrible — health alerts!) The food is pretty good. Always fresh, bread is tasty. Austin business disarray– not too much corporate schlock. no– nonsense. Much better than Subway/Quiznos…

thundercloud, thundercloud, why i love thee thundercloud… I heart thundercloud. For the past few years, I have banned Subway and have always ventured to THUNDERCLOUD. The people at this location are always smiling to us worker bees across the street. I get my usual order of tuna or california club, and the sandwich makers always perfect the job to the ultimate sandwich. I love this location, but it does get BUSY during the so called lunch rush. So, call in and pick up at the outdoor up window. Their inside ordering is pretty organized. You order, you pay then give your check to the sw maker… Pretty neat setup compared to others. I’ll be there every week for my sw!
