Awesome. Delicious. Perfect. Everything is always fresh and consistently executed. I love to take home a fresh baguette.

Not sure about their lunch or dinner menu… but the breakfast is pretty good. You can’t go wrong with the breakfast tostadas. The eggs Benedict with ham is also pretty tasty. Also, the food comes out pretty fast

Every time we go to Texas French Bread it gets better! Hard to improve on excellent. Tonight the beets in yoghurt were a standout, as were the quail and pasta. Steak and frites are reliably cooked to perfection. Not to mention the always innovative bread, tonight a subtle sourdough rye. Butterscotch pudding had a close rival in the apple tart. Awesome dining experience!

Best pastries in town! They use good ingredients and the people who work there are rad.

It’s always a shame when a once decent restaurant tanks, especially when a couple of management changes would help. This TFB location has been a go-to spot for the wife and I for several years now for the great(albeit incredibly expensive) breakfasts. Not anymore. My experience Sunday was wretched. The eggs were tasteless. The potatoes had obviously been cooked more than once, and had no taste other than oil. The sausage patties were hard as rocks and the size of quarters. And the toast was horribly disappointing. This place started as a bakery and previously the toast was pulled from a fresh-baked loaf of bread. It was fantastic. Not anymore. The single slice of toast that came with my order Sunday obviously came from a bag of Oroweat or something similar. Is this the worst breakfast in town? Not really, until you consider that’s it’s twice as expensive as anything else you’ll find. The American breakfast and a cup of coffee sets you back $ 15.40. Ouch. It seems to me management is trying to reduce food costs, but if you sell lackluster food, you simply cannot charge a premium price and hope to stay in business. But that’s not the worst. This is: The service was non-existent. This is an absolute deal-killer for a $ 12 plate of eggs, especially when there are 8 – 9 servers wandering about. No one brought me a single refill of coffee. No one asked if my meal was adequate. No one cleared my plate from the table. No one asked me if I wanted anything else. I even had to get up and flag somebody down just to get my bill. Were they busy? Not at all. Mostly, they stood around the counter and yucked it up. There were maybe 20 customers when I left(that’s only 2 – 3 customers to every floor person), but when I arrived, I was one of only three people in the place. So, I don’t think I got lost in the crowd. I think the real problem is that the waitstaff floats the entire floor, rather than being assigned a section or specific tables. Quite literally, this means there is NOONE responsible for your table. This may work in situations with tight management and professional, career servers, but not with a bunch of college kids and slackers. So, if you want to pay a lot of money for a small amount of so-so food, and have to fight uncaring, unmanaged waitstaff to do so, this is your place. I certainly hope the owner jerks a knot in the manager’s tail and that he or she passes it along to the supposed waitstaff. Otherwise, it’s back to Thundercloud Subs for those folks. Oh, and assign tables, willya?

Absolutely the best place for a cheese danish. I would like to know why the bread taste so good!!! Baked to perfection every layer is scrumptious, every bite is pleasing to my soul… I try other bakeries which only confirms my opinion that this place makes the some of the best bread. The only reason why I considered not giving a 5 star is that I would like to buy my danish and coffee for $ 5 not $ 7, but what the heck at Starbucks you pay $ 10. I am also torn between posting about this place because it is one of those nice quiet spots that you want to keep to yourself and not let be invaded by the masses.

The bread is homemade and decent so it doesn’t get one star. But man are these people full of themselves. Try paying 10 $ for a tiny sandwich and some ice tea. Then a half a sandwich is almost 7 $ that doesn’t even make mathematical sense. The food is literally the epitome of average. So is the coffee. Such a bummer too because it would be great to have a nice homey neighborhood bakery there. Honestly go to Jason’s deli and get a better sandwich and more stuff.

What a charming place! We stopped in between lunch and dinner, so our menu was somewhat limited. However, the folks working there were delightful and the food was superb. Probably pricier than I could afford on a regular basis, but well worth the splurge.

I’m at a loss for the rating of this place. I looove the atmosphere, you need to eat here to enjoy it. The interior is simple and classy. Up to this point, I had grabbed cups of coffee from this place for years but never eaten the food(albeit some croissants at the famer’s market booth). BTW, the coffee is great, espresso drinks are made with local Mill King milk, with fancy foam designs on the top of your latte or mocha. Our breakfast was simple, french inspired and done well — we ate a croque madame sandwich, eggs benedict and a ham and cheese croissant. Oh, and a generous slice of chocolate fudge cake. Everything was great. I mentioned to the waiter i didn’t care for the fried breakfast potatoes and he handled it like a pro — offered a replacement, apologized, said he’d provide the feedback up the chain and that fudge cake was on the house — wow. The croque madam had a runny egg, creamy sauce and was served on crusty toasted bread with a side of jam. The eggs benedict had the best Hollandaise sauce and was stacked with caramelized slices of ham. My kid gobbled up the ham and cheese croissant. They have something beautiful going on outside, behind the restaurant, but I’m not really sure what it is intended use is for, the backyard space has been remodeled recently and now has covered seating and another small building. Can we sit there to eat… with service? I think so… but i’ll have to figure that out next time I’m there… it would be beautiful at night, if so! My advice is to eat inside, enjoy the great service and wonderful environment and for heaven’s sake — try the espresso and sweets! Next time, I will check out the soup of the day and the salmon strawberry salad, along with a loaf of chocolate cherry sourdough to take home. The dinner menu always looks mouth watering — i’ll be back to check that out too.

Ordered $ 63.95 worth of cookies and a lunch special. Paid a courier to go pickup order. Bag had my name written on it and the items it contained: Lunch special with sprite, 1 dozen gingersnaps and small cookie tin. No lunch was in the bag when delivered. No worries, I thought I would call and get it resolved. NOT easy. I was made to feel I was the problem! I was offered a refund of the $ 12.00 lunch and told I needed to come pick it up. I don’t have a car as I use the express bus. So the courier would need to be paid again($ 15.00) to come get it. Long story short, I said I would appreciate the 15.00 delivery fee and 12.00 lunch refunded. He would not take my credit card number saying he needed to call me back. AND he isn’t sure when that will be. They will deliver my lunch, but when, I don’t know. I am so disappointed in how unprofessional this was handled. I don’t feel they care about customer satisfaction and that we spend lots of money for their product. I am sad to say, I won’t be back there again. I loved Texas French Bread. UPDATE: GM just delivered my lunch and gave me a loaf of pumpkin bread. That was nice and appreciated. Will wait to see when the refund will happen. Will update again.

Even though it’s expensive, the food was awful. I had a $ 9BLT that was nothing but bread and maybe a couple of slices of bacon. My wife had a soup and salad combo that I think cost $ 12. She complained that the sandwich was flavorless and the soup had a nice layer of grease on the top. It has a great location just west of campus and very roomy and welcoming for folks to sit down, relax and spend some time with friends. Nice old building with plenty of character. There is adequate parking in the rear, which is a big deal for this part of town. Did I mention they lost our order and we had to wait 30 minutes to get served?

Snooty … but WHY? Are the counter people instructed to act hoity toity? Or is that something they’re doing on their own initiative! Basically it boils down to just bad manners.

I really want to like this place more but the food is pretty inconsistent and doesn’t stand out. Lunch: Their lunch is classic and the same as it’s been for 20+ years. There are cheaper options for the same quality and quantity around and some more creative places that are doing more interesting things pretty close by. But it’s a cute place and my grandmother has been taking me here since before I can remember. I feel it’s really suitable for older people and you’ll notice that when/if you go then. Breakfast: I’ve tried several times to hit them up for a quick coffee and croissant before work and here’s where the disappointment lies: the croissants vary between raw and sweet and flaky and buttery. I guess they’re not all that focused on their classic baked items these days. But when you’ve had a croissant on the good days that crisps with amazing perfection it is so sad to get one of those other days. So definitely skip out on their breakfast and head to easy tiger for more consistently good croissants because at $ 3.75 here you really ought not to risk the disappointment. The other breakfast/brunch offerings are tasty but nothing you couldn’t have made better yourself. Dinner: Their dinners are great! The farm to table simplicity of the dishes are great! But if you’re seeking mussels and fries there are really so so so many options around town that have a bit more soul in that area. Bonus is the happy hour is a good value but don’t expect to feel like you got what you paid for, this isn’t a deal. All in all: Lot of potential and definitely will be back. But mostly for the ambience. Good place for lunch with your grandmother. Or happy hour with the girls if you’re in the area. If I wasn’t in the area for a few months I wouldn’t miss it and I wouldn’t direct anyone this way. I’ll keep coming because I want to like it more than I do, and I’ll keep hoping it’ll blossom into something. I just wish they had more to offer in taste and craft but with the exception of the rotating dinner menus I feel like this is more French A’la La Madeline.

Delicious breads and desserts await you at Texas French Breads! Be prepared to splurge a little – salads cost upwards of $ 12 – but the warm interior and friendly staff, not to mention the delicious baked items, make this a delightful spot for lunch or a weekend brunch. My one complaint is that if you get a slice of cake that has already been cut, it may be a bit on the dry side. There’s no harm in asking at the counter how long the cake has been out/cut before you order – let them know you’re concerned it may be dry, and they’ll usually offer a sample first so you can try and then decide.

This is a really cute and quaint spot tucked away in the heart of west campus. The restaurant is adorable– fresh flowers on each table and plenty of sunlight shining in through the windows. The servers are always so pleasant and friendly. I’ve had the frites + aioli sauce which was delicious, as well as a sandwich. The tortilla soup was so-so. I haven’t had many of their pastries with the exception of a cookie that came with a meal. This chocolate chip cookie was amazing! Try it! Overall, cute, quaint spot with some tasty plates.

DANG I feel like this is such a hidden gem, but I guess it’s really not hidden? I guess because it’s so close to campus, I didn’t realize places like this existed in such short proximity. So college student me decided I would splurge on my brunch and spend about $ 20 on myself. That being said, I got the eggs benedict — texas french bread, topped with ham, eggs benedict, and hollandaise sauce. OHMIGATOSMYMOUTHISWATERINGATTHETHOUGHTOFIT; ITWASSOGOOD. My friends tried it and they were amazed at my selection choice. Other great things about TFB:(«Texas French Bread» for those who don’t know because I had to ask the waiter what TFB meant): –Their coffee is great. I just had a cup of their drip coffee — they get their beans from Anderson’s — and honestly for like bulk drip, I was lovin’ it. –Their customer service rocked. The water pitcher was always filled, coffee was always offered, waiters were friendly and inviting. –They didn’t complain that we, group of 9, had separate checks, then left the checks not together(oops sorry dude, too excited to take pictures), and were those customers that asked for a group picture… –The ambiance/décor is so stinking cute. –Parking wasn’t awful(ie. I successfully parallel parked the first time around) and there is a parking spot in the back. –AND they get local ingredients. So now that I’ve basically written a love note to TFB, I shall go and do my homework, dreaming about going back for coffee, for book club, basically just any meal of the day.

Brunch. Good chicken salad and turkey sandwiches. I got the steak frites. I asked for medium rare it was closer to medium but the chimichurri was so outstanding that it carried the steak. The fries on the other hand were heavenly. I would guess double fried as they were crisp outside with moist flavorful inside and the aioli helped make my meal. All-in-all a good go-to that should improve as I understand they just hired a new chef de cuisine with first-rate experience. We’ll be back to try dinner.

Solely about their cakes and breads — they are incredibly dry. Make sure to buy some jam or compote to make them edible. Also ridiculously expensive.

If you’re looking for a fresh, low-key place for lunch then look no further! Every person there seemed like a local and the menu was pretty straightforward. I had the lunch special that came with a mixed salad(ranch), cookie(peanut butter), half sandwich(BLT), and a drink(lemonade). A nice light lunch and perfect for friends visiting Austin, TX.

This is a classic old-school Austin spot. I love the gorgeous old brick building and the vintage wood planks. It’s a bright, happy, relaxed spot to enjoy coffee and read the paper. The tfb salad was yummy and healthy and we enjoyed the omelette too. Definitely check out this classic, underrated casual brunch/lunch joint!

I have to say I was quite impressed after my recent first visit to this adorable restaurant. I came for dinner with a friend and had a delightful experience that far exceeded what I was expecting, in all categories. I’m really tempted to give them 5 stars, but just feel I need to come once more to ensure it wasn’t a fluke. It was that good! We sat outside which is a lovely space that somehow cohesively mixes the feeling of both Tuscany and Texas hill country. That’s hard to do. Second, that vibe went perfectly with the wine and all the food we ordered. We had the cheese plate, olives, cucumber salad(with ricotta salata, honey, mint, and marcona almond), tomato arugala salad(with prosciutto, peaches, and shaved goat cheddar) and their squash blossoms stuffed with goat cheese then fried(these were a special the day we came and were freaking amazing! In fact, I think I could live off of these alone). Everything we ordered was great and tasted super fresh and with top quality ingredients. The cheese for the cheese plate is courtesy of Antonelli’s so you know it’s good. The portions of the cheese however were somewhat minuscule, but the blue cheese(Mycella from Holland) was out of this world good and the crostini were toasted perfectly with a nice dash of olive oil on them. We finished with their chocolate tart and what seemed like home made whip cream. This was was the perfect finish to a fantastic meal. We probably could have ordered one or two more dishes and definitely will next time as their other stuff looks great too. Their dishes were presented beautifully, so beautifully that I regret not having taking any photos. Service was really great. Everyone was nice and welcoming and provided us with all we needed. Their Happy Hour, while short(everyday 5:30p-6:30p), is a good deal with ½ off small plates and ½ off all glasses of wine. There is some real care and passion in what they do here I can’t help but respect. I look forward to returning!

Eh, came here for breakfast and while the service was excellent the food was mediocre. And for $ 12 I expected a lot more. We came here because nearby Kerbey Lane café was packed but will likely wait it out at Kerbey rather than returning here.

The food is delicious but the best thing about this place is the atmosphere. It feels like all the patrons are regulars, and no one’s trying to hard to force the ‘french’ thing. As such it feels much more european than many of the other french restaurants in Austin. Make sure you have a cheese plate. The Roquefort is glorious.

Went here today with two friends to catch up– I had been once before and really wasn’t a fan of my over priced turkey sandwich combo, but I decided to switch it up with a BLT and just chips. The chips were sort of sweet, and the salsa as well, so those won’t be ranking in my top Austin chips. But the BLT was impressive! I enjoyed the taste of the thicker cut smokey bacon with fresh tomato and lettuce. A nice amount of mayo was present too, but not too much to make it feel super unhealthy. Only con was the wheat toast seemed slammed with butter on the outside so it was pretty greasy. Overall– if a friend wanted to go again, I’d say sure: but I’m not in a rush to suggest this place with other great sandwich places nearby.
