Arrived here at 8:35PM. They«ran out» of waffle fries. Prices here are quite overpriced. The restaurant reeked of smoke from the kitchen and smog could be seen throughout the restaurant.

I love this place! Great food and the location on the drag is an Austin original! They could really use an upgrade to the air conditioning. It was slightly warm when we were there. Other than that. Solid choice for lunch down near UT. Edit: I didn’t realize this Texadelphia location on the drag went out of business. It’s too bad. They were a fixture down near UT for a long time. It’s great that their are other locations though.

My self-imposed ban on the Guadalupe location is over! Imagine my surprise when I received an email from the new manager at Texadelphia because she saw my review and wanted to let me know the manager involved in my incident is gone. She invited me to return for a breakfast taco to give them another chance. I accepted her offer this morning. I was pleasantly surprised at how large the breakfast taco was — and it was good! I’ll definitely add Texadelphia back into the lunch rotation now that there is no chance to interact with the old manager. I may even venture in for another breakfast taco in the future.

I really have a soft spot for Texadelphia. They make a good cheesesteak obviously, but beyond that they offer a lot more. Make sure to get the mustard blend sauce with your Philly cheesesteak. When I’m out with a gang of work friends, it’s natural that I have to order the queso fries. Trust me people! Curly fries surrounding some sweet sweet yellow queso. They’ll have some sports on in the corner and you can throw down a few beers too if you want. Love the wood panelling on the walls too. Totally reminds me that I’m definitely in Texas. They also offer takeout. I often choose to go that route. There is parking in the back that is kind of hidden. If you have a smaller car, just park there and grab it to go.

Dreamy. I saw this place when walking on Guadalupe Avenue once and I had to try it. That started a 10+ year love affair that has not weakened. My tastes are simple: I love the basic Beef Cheesesteak with Chips & Queso. This is Texas, so they serve Dr. Pepper as well. They used to serve soda in ridiculously large cups, but at some point they stepped back to more normal-sized cups. Every time we make it to the Austin area, we have to visit this place while we are exploring the many wonders of the area. This has been a long-time favorite for the family.

I’m an Austin native, and I’d heard the place talked up a bunch, so I finally hit it up a few months ago. I was fairly disappointed. The food was just okay, nothing special, and it left me feeling awful afterwards(but that’s standard for a cheesesteak). Okay, but somewhat overhyped. Probably good for groups.

We ate there for lunch today. They definitely seemed understaffed as only 2 people were working at lunchtime and the guy at the counter was taking the orders and payments, was clearing tables, delivering orders and helping the cook(I really hope that his hands were clean). Not surprising the order was wrong. He forgot something, gave us bad advice on the peppers and the sandwich was made incorrectly based on how he took the order. The woman cooking in the back corrected the sandwich promptly but the bad pepper advice persisted in the remake so my son really couldn’t eat it. We have frequented other Texadelphia’s before and were never disappointed, I wish that were the case today.

Founder’s Favorite with extra jalepenos and a big iced tea. Can’t speak for the rest of the menu because I never made it past the Founder’s Favorite. Whoever he is, he has great taste. Sliced beef, grilled onions & mushrooms, cheese, and jalepenos. But the reason I’m stuck is the mustard sauce. Once you’ve experienced nirvana, why keep looking? I love to mix their unsweetened tea with just a bit of their lite lemonade. UMMM. Be nice and put a tip in the jar. Not only is it good for your karma situation, but you’ll get a hearty«thank you» from the kitchen.

It’s not Gino’s in Philly… but it is soo good for Texas! Start off with queso and have them put guacamole in it! The mustard blend is amazing. I dip everything in it including my chips!

Look alive! Good vibes return to this Unilocaler’s feelings about Texadelphia. About two weeks after I wrote my last review, my boyfriend received a credit for the amount that was double charged to his card, but we weren’t sure how it was handled since we still hadn’t heard back from the restaurant, so we assumed that the bank took care of it, and due to my lack of understanding of the situation, I didn’t know how I should go about updating my review. Despite the fact that this billing situation was resolved, I was a little bothered that we never heard back from Texadelphia themselves about it. Today, I was contacted by the general manager of the restaurant, Lisa, who found my review and wanted to follow up on the credit card situation. Here’s her message: «Mary, I am the GM of the Texadelphia on the Drag, I would like to first of all, apologize. Can I get you to call the store, and ask to speak to Lisa(that’s me). I’ll refund your boyfriend right away. I had no idea there was a situation.» I let her know about the credit my boyfriend received and thanked her for her genuine concern. It’s been about three months since I wrote that scathing review about their service, but honestly, this small message was enough to restore my good feelings toward this establishment. What can we take away from this? I’m easy to disappoint, and I’m easy to please. But in all seriousness, it’s good to be vocal about certain things when it comes to service. I’ve learned that I should be a little more persistent in the future. If I had grabbed one of their business cards off the counter, my boyfriend and I could have taken the initiative to call the manager instead of waiting around and giving up after a while. Things could have been resolved much more easily, and I probably could have eaten about twenty cheesesteaks in the past three months when I chose not to eat at Texadelphia. But as we see here, things can still turn around. I’m at least glad that we have Unilocal to help patch things up.

«Prepare to get your taste buds smASHed!» Yes it is true, I love Texadelphia. I can’t help it, I love philly cheesesteaks so damn much. You’re probably thinking that you can think of a million other places that have so much better… well I can’t. This is my go to spot for a philly cheesesteak, hold the onions please. Yes, in all its greasiness its truly delicious. Hooray for curly fries! Hooray for unhealthy food! What makes the sandwich so good is the mustard blend sauce. Can’t do without it. You won’t find me with my clothes clean or my hands not dripping with mustard blend at this place. I’m not into eating like a frou frou girl when I’m starving, thats just how it goes. And no, I don’t really care either. I think back to the not so distant future and recall the cheesesteaks being a helluva lot bigger. I’m talking about the regular size. They used to be so big! Now, they’ve toned it down and I’m not super full when I’m done eating. Bummer, I could use the extra calories. The queso guac burger is to die for, and yes another messy sandwich that I’m not ashamed of scarfing down. First, I love queso. Second, I love guac. What could be better than throwing that on a cheeseburger?

I want to really, really like Texadelphia, seriously I do. But when I go for a cheese steak, I would like to taste the cheese and the steak(and the onions), not just the bun and the awesome mustard. Overall, it’s kind of bland. Still, it’s not bad food, the service is good and the prices are decent. So I’m not giving up yet and will explore the menu further in future visits.

I used to eat at this Texadelphia location all of the time while I was attending UT, and after that when my now-husband worked at UT. But up until last weekend I hadn’t been for 5 years. During that time I reconnected with an old friend who used to work for Texadelphia, and he said that the quality had gone downhill because the original owner was no longer actually involved or something. Well, that wasn’t the experience I had … everything was just about as good as I remembered. My husband and I ordered: 2 cheesesteaks, a large queso, a soda, and a water, and the total was around $ 22 … not too bad. We were meeting up with my cousin, and she ordered a turkey sandwich. We got the queso right away. It was in a very large portion and was pretty good. All of our food came out quickly and the orders were correct(my husband had ordered the Founder’s Favorite, and I had ordered my cheesesteak minus onions and plus mushrooms). My husband and I enjoyed our cheesesteaks. They were less messy than I remembered, but just about as flavorful, so I consider that a plus. My cousin liked her turkey sandwich but said she wished she’d ordered a cheesesteak like we did. I should have taken half of my sandwich home, especially after filling up on chips and queso, but I ended up eating the whole thing. Probably I won’t wait 5 years to come back!

I don’t how this phenomenon happens, but every time I eat here… it’s absolutely awesome. But then immediately afterwards, I forget all about it for a few months. Ordered the Founder’s Favorite — onions, mushrooms, and jalapenos. I’m not much for the mustard, although it IS delicious. Instead, I choose to accompany my delicious cheesesteak with ranch. Mmmmmm. Here’s the best part — the meat is so juicy that you’re in race against the clock to eat the cheesesteak. Why? Because the longer you wait, the soggier the bread gets(not a bad thing at all, let me tell ya) and the messier it gets to eat. My favorite — the salsa. I don’t know what it is about their salsa but it is the best. Better than any tex-mex restaurant around. Call it what you want… blasphemy, if you’d like — but I stand by my opinion. I could drink that stuff with a straw all day. Hopefully this review will remind me that this place deserves a place in the regular rotation.

I chose to eat here because as a tourist, the name«Texadelphia» totally appealed to me… I liked this place because of it’s local/college atmosphere. Although the cheese steak sandwich didn’t impress me all that much. I can’t blame the restaurant for not satisfying my appetite though. I believe I was looking more for the taste of a Philly cheese steak versus a Texas cheese steak… So, foul on my part. They have great deals for UT students though, which I think is great. Always points for student discounts and deals!

Eaten at the one on the drag and everyone in our party got sick. Perhaps it was a one time fiasco, but I haven’t dared in there again. Also, the cheese steak sandwiches are a lot greasier than I’ve had at other cheese steak eateries. This place just never seems appealing anymore. :(

This is the original Texadelphia which is technically called«Texadelphia on Guadalupe.» It is part of a small chain that originated right here in Austin with about 10 locations in Austin now, one in Houston and one in Oklahoma. For the beverage enthusiasts you can find Austin /Blanco based Real Ale assisted by master Belgian beer-meister of Hoegaarden fame, Pierre Celis. Just a little beer trivia there. :) The smoked turkey sandwich came on a really well grilled bun that had a crunchy inside surface which made an excellent pairing with the smoked turkey and cheese. The tomatoes were also really good inside this thing. So nice.

THE best tasting cheese steak sandwich ever, compared to our crappy alternatives in LA. The only place I can go to for a cheesesteak is at Big Mike’s, and they suck pretty bad. Texadelphia has excellent tasting angus certified beef, and stuffed with so much of it, I can share it with another person. The flavor is perfect, and the bread has perfect texture that pairs to the beef, not cold and dry like Big Mike’s here in L.A. The bread here at Texadelphia is soft and toasty, and will not break on you. It soaks up some of the beef juices so each bite is so damn flavorful. I will always have prepared 2 cups of sauces for my steak sandwich. Ranch one bite, then honey mustard another… i’m getting so damn hungry just thinking about this. Why can’t they open one up here in Cali???
