Came here for Valentine’s Day after going on a hike. My boyfriend found it after some extensive Unilocaling, and we thought we’d give it a try. We asked the waitress what she would recommend, and she gave us some great suggestions. She told us what was most popular, and also told us her favorite dish in the sections that we were thinking about. There were great spices and everything was tasty, but it was also very heavy on the noodles for both dishes and didn’t have a ton of meat. Overall, friendly service and good food, I’d come back.

I stopped by here not too long ago after craving some Vietnamese food. I ordered the combination phở and enjoyed it! The broth was very tasty and it felt as if you taste some of the fattyness from the tendon… which I loved. The staff are friendly and service is quite good.

This is a Vietnamese guy reviewing a Vietnamese restaurant. I have read the previous reviews, which led me to try it myself. This is far from authentic Vietnamese cuisine. This looks more like Chinese with the greasy sauces the ingredients are soaked in. I walked in expecting a healthy meal. I left with the same guilt after eating Chinese buffet. I had the Bun Bo Xao Xa. If you still plan to go there, at least pick something else.

Out of all the phở and BBH places around Austin, tan my definitely knows how to make their broths! I go here once every month and always have a difficult time deciding whether I want the phở or the BBH. I always end up picking the BBH because I can’t pass up on how good the broth is alongside the pig blood and various meats that comes with the meal. Service is quick and good comes out relatively fast compared to other phở restaurants. Nice small atmosphere and is pretty clean. I would definitely recommend this place everytime someone asks if I want to go get phở or BBH!

Authentic Vietnamese dishes. Came on a weeknight and it was busy! The stir fry egg noodle was delicious. I didn’t care too much for the«bun bo hue» as it did not have the authentic taste/smell to it. It was«different». I would definitely return to try the Phở and other noodle dishes. In a really run down plaza and not a whole lot of parking.

My 5 star rating is in the context of casual Vietnamese food. Really good vermicelli and noodle dishes. My favorite vermicelli dish is #49, tofu and curry. Take the small jar of hot sauce and spoon some into the sauce that is served on the side, and mix it up. Be careful because that stuff is really hot. Then pour the sauce onto the dish. This gets the hot sauce thoroughly mixed into the dish. Making the curry dish spicy turns it into my favorite vermicelli dish, hands down.

Not the best, but not the worst Vietnamese spot. Service is good and foot traffic is pretty heavy. They don’t make vegetable broth for the veggie or seafood phở so if you’re a vegetarian/pescetarian the phở may not be your best option. Haven’t tried the other dishes, but the seafood phở is alright.

Still one of the best restaurant values around. Food is good and plentiful, and the staff is nice. Service is casual; if you want something, just ask. Alas, word is out on this neighborhood treasure, so allow a little time when dining there. They’re almost always pretty busy. And, you can’t beat the prices!

I ordered the small beef broth, beef phở. WOW! Bountiful al dente noodles. Superior clean tasty broth. A pure delight. Aromas, tastes and textures that lasted the whole meal made my day. I plan to go back as often as I can!

Let me preface this review by saying that I am a native Houstonian who used to eat bahn mi on the reg from the long-gone«mall» in Midtown aka buy five and get one free. Jeez, I really hesitate to let other people know about this place, but it was so good. I had the tofu bun, and wow, just wow. Great tofu, lots of flavor, fresh veggies. My husband had a fried noodle stir fry and loved it – we can now happily stay in Austin. My gf makes a killer phở, so I’ve always got her for that. Now if I could locate somewhere with tofu luc lac, I’d be set.

The four stars goes to the Bun Bo Hue and the service and environment. I’ve been here ever since I found out they serve Bun Bo Hue,(which is a spicy noodle soup with thicker rice noodles along with pork blood, beef and pork chunks). Being someone from Houston, it’s hard to find good vietnamese food that can even compare and I kid you not this place is comparable. First off, the service is quick and delightful. Every staff member is trained really well to serve you with a smile. If you’re lucky you actually get to be served by the daughter or son of the owner of the restaurant. Secondly, the utensils are always clean. I really applaud them in this aspect because if you’ve worked in a restaurant you definitely know how they REALLY wash the utensils. Last but not least the food is always consistent, although I haven’t tried everything on the menu I can guarantee if you find something you like and stick with it, it will never disappoint.

The reviews here are dead-on accurate. The place was packed, which was a good sign to begin with. I had a spring roll with the #50 vermicelli with chicken and curry sauce. It was absolutely out of this world outstanding. The curry used was a tad spicy which made for a perfect meal. While the atmosphere and presentation were certainly less than stellar, I find that these guys care a whole lot more about the food than the way the place looks or how a dish is presented. Hats off to the owners and staff for a job well done. Next time I’m in Austin, I’ll be back here in a heartbeat!

If you ever find yourself in Austin and are feeling phở, this is the place to go to! The broth is(as many have vouched for) mouthwatering, no pun intended. The noodles are always cooked to perfection and the rest of their ingredients always look and taste fresh and delicious! That being said, the place does get pretty crowded and it doesn’t have the best parking spot situation, but don’t let that be a discouragement, there’s a Target nearby for parking and just think of that delicious meal you’ll soon be having as you wait for a table– it wont be a letdown!

I visited Tan My Restaurant on 11/25/2015. I ordered the Beef brisket phở. Normally when I eat brisket I try to order extra lean because I do not enjoy extra most fatty beef. So I asked waiter taking my order if I can have lean brisket only. He was able to do it. When the order came out I was shocked at how big the bowl was. When I tried the broth I was overwhelmed by all the flavors exploding in my mouth. It was without a doubt the most flavorful phở I’ve ever had. 5 stars for sure I will be back and I won’t forget to save the picture this time.

This place hands down deserves the missing star from my previous review… $ 8.25 for a large Phở packed with some of the highest quality meat I’ve ever had in any Phở… The broth flavor is second to none, packed with flavor and will leave your belly happy. Ordered the #1 since it had best variety of ingredients, grabbed an egg roll as well, excellent. For the first time ever, I ended up taking Phở home because of the quantity of meat and noodles in the dish. Delicious.

Being in New York for a year now and coming from San Francisco, I missssssss my phở!!! Got into Texas and drove from Dallas to Austin, stop by this joint because it had supposedly good bun bo hue. I am skeptical because i am biased towards my home bun bo hue preferences. A big joint for viet place(everything is big in texas right?) and ordered bun bo hoe with phở noodles(yea thats my way) and no pigs blood(no thanks) with a viet iced coffee. My iced coffee had a bit too much condensed milk but it was delicious nonetheless. The coffee was strong in flavor and bitter and blends so harmiously together with the condensed milk… love at first sight… My bun bo hue… i admit… im still a bit biased on my hometown’s but it was pretty damn close and really good. It is more beefier in flavor than what we have back home but not as spicy. They give you actual knuckles… sorry…couldnt do it =P. The noodles were cooked just right, not soggy. It’s delicious!

Visited here for the first time recently — I can’t believe I’ve never come by here before! The simple décor seemed right on par for an authentic experience. Most things on the menu looked familiar — phở with steak/ribeye/tripe/flank/meatballs(any combination of the above), vermicelli bowls, rice plates. One large section I don’t see often was chicken phở — and some of these had egg noodles instead of rice noodles. We tried two different soups — one beef, one chicken, and the chicken broth was actually tastier! Will be back to eat my way through their menu… cause THAT’S WHAT I DO!

I have lived in Minneapolis for a long time and with one of the largest Hmong settlements in the U.S., there is some amazing Asian and Vietnamese food. I’ve tried a number of places in Austin and haven’t found exceptional quality. I’ve eaten at Tan My 3 – 5 times and it never fails to hit a high bar. I really like the #1 Phở, spicy. I took a vermicelli salad home for the next day’s lunch and it held up really well. Delicious the next day! My only regret with Tan My is that they are so far from downtown that I don’t get out that way often enough to enjoy their authentic food. This place is authentic, inexpensive and no-frills. It is really all about that amazing Phở broth that is very, very flavorful.

My friend introduce me to this place b/c I love Bun Bo Hue and it’s so hard to find a yummy spicy bowl in Austin!!! This place fits that requirement. I only come here for their Bun Bo Hue. I know they are always busy at lunch/dinner times. Bun bo hue is not for the… faint of heart. You have to be adventurous. :) This place is as authentic as I know. I’m not from the region that this dish originated so I only know from other restaurants. It comes with a cut of ham hock, some pork blood chunks, brisket, and various vegetables. This noodle soup is much spicier than other soups that everyone is more familiar with, it comes spicy. It uses a thicker rice noodle also that is the perfect for this soup. So my review is really only for their Bun Bo Hue. I know from another friend that the cook is actually from the Hue region so it’s probably as authentic as you can get. If you like spicy, give it a try! You won’t be disappointed.
