These people made a brilliant milk and cookies cake for my baby shower. So I went to them for my mom’s birthday cake. The cake was $ 70 then the artwork was an additional $ 120. For 2 fondant pieces on the cake. Excessive, in my opinion… especially after I saw what they did. I was dissatisfied and they did their best to rectify the error though their solution was not great. I assumed the vanilla cake would taste as good as the cake from the baby shower. I was wrong. The cake tasted like it had been frozen. Ultimately, it was not worth $ 190. Additionally, when I paid for it over the phone(sight unseen) I was asked if I wanted to include a tip. Why? For what service? You have charged me for the artwork. You didn’t deliver the cake. Why would you expect a tip?

Everything I’ve had from here tastes as gorgeous as it looks! I love coming here as a special treat for myself, and I think I’ll start brining friends and family when they visit from out of town. Love it!

I’ve lived my entire life with the opinion that the Snickerdoodle is a garbage cookie. Boring, bland, no relation to a Snickers bar — I just never got it. All that changed today when I met Heather(who was full of moxy) at Sugar Mama’s on 1st St. I asked for a cookie rec, she immediately suggested Snickerdoodle, I scoffed, and she was mildly offended. The search continued, I actually saw said cookie and, wanting to get back in Heather’s good graces, bought one. Looking forward to proving her wrong, I ate the whole thing on the drive home. It was amazing. Caramel-y deliciousness and the sea salt they throw on top makes it one of the best cookies I’ve ever eaten. Sadly, not being a local, I’ll be relegated to terrible Snickerdoodles for the rest of my life. So thanks Heather, for both the wonderful cookie experience and also the eternal disappointment. Sugar Mama’s gets my undying recommendation.

I’ve had a red velvet cupcake just about everywhere that sells them and this is my favorite one by far. The frosting is soooo good and the cake is ridiculously moist. Definitely recommend it!

When you walk in the first thing you see is the display. Cupcakes, cookies, vegan cupcakes, everything, you name it. This bakery is the definition of adorable. I can’t even begin to describe how beautifully it’s decorated, how colorful and bright everything is, how homey it feels. I had such a difficult time deciding between which cupcake I wanted, The Red Velvet or the Carrot Cake. In the end I chose the Red Velvet and it was… delicious! It’s topped with a thick layer of frosting, which intimidated me. But after taking a bite out of the cupcake, to my surprise, it was NOT too sweet at all. It was perfect. And even my boyfriend who doesn’t have much of a sweet tooth found it to be just right as well. If you need an excuse to eat a cupcake just remember cupcakes are like hugs. Everyone needs one. So go, go now!

Not pleased with my experience. We hired Sugar Mama’s to make our wedding cake. We paid a $ 75 travel fee and they showed up an hour late to the venue. They called me and said they were going to be late due to SXSW traffic. but SXSW is something everyone is well aware of. They knew there was going to be traffic. It’s their job to factor this into account when trying to make a delivery. The cake itself was good. We had 3-tiered cookie monster. I wouldn’t use them again. I think showing up an hour late on my wedding day is extremely unprofessional.

Interesting treats you won’t find anywhere else like the Harlow honey Baklava(honey cake, baklava filling, and cinnamon buttercream icing, and old standards like a chocolate cream pie.

Why would you have an employee working here if she doesn’t know how to use the iPad/cash register??? We checked in on Unilocal, asked for recommendations, bought some cupcakes, showed our Unilocal for $ 1 off… And she goes«oh. We don’t have that deal here.» Well why do you have it? «I’ve only been here a month and that information is wrong.» Well it should be removed. «Sure, I’ll past the word.»(In the most sarcastic and rude tone). I keep on thinking, is she talking to us like this because we’re Asian??? I could care less about that dollar off, but your customer service skills are horrible. Please get some more training. please! as for the cupcakes, my honest review is that they’re wayyyyy too sweet.

We had an assortment of cupcakes made for our wedding on Sunday, March 13th. Not only were they decorated and arranged beautifully, but they were the most delicious cupcakes we had ever tasted! We chose four flavors– Strawberry Love, Chai Tea, The Hummingbird without nuts, and chocolate with vanilla buttercream. The cakes were moist and flavorful and the frosting was the perfect level of sweet. A dear friend of mine is gluten-intolerant, and she was worried that she wouldn’t get a cupcake. I assured her that the Chai Tea cupcakes were gluten free, and she LOVED them! In fact, all of our guests were raving about them. It’s a good thing there were enough leftover for seconds! The ONLY downside was that our guests were getting antsy about trying one. :) Thank you Jennifer, and thank you Sugar Mama’s for your spectacular cupcakes!

Not sure what the big deal is about this place. I drove all the way from Northwest Austin down South to sample the red velvet cupcake since I need to buy several desserts for a school festival. All I can say is the first bite was enough for me. The frosting was super, super sweet I still have that sugary taste on top of my mouth. Yuk! The cake was fluffly but I didnt like the crystalized sugar on the edges of the cake where the frosting failed to cover. Plus getting lost trying to find a parking space is not fun at all. So for $ 3.25 you are basically paying for a nice cardboard box with a sticker on top and a cute heart on top of your cheesecake frosting, in my opinion.

So I wanted to come here because my friend had picked up cupcakes from here for my husband’s and a friend’s birthdays. I tried the chocodip which is «Rich chocolate cake with a swirl of cream cheese frosting dipped in coconut» but they only have it on Tuesdays. I wanted something chocolate-y so I asked what they recommended. She said their bars are underrated and delicious. So I tried the Smore bar: «Graham cracker crust, a thick layer of creamy dark chocolate and a delicious pillow of house-made toasted marshmallow.» Omg. Not disappointed! I also grabbed an Everything cookie: «What happens when you cross a peanut butter, oatmeal, and chocolate chip cookie? The Everything Cookie!» that is perfect for the indecisive like me. FYI: Parking isn’t ideal. And depending on the day you go there’s only certain cupcakes. Variety wasn’t great but I did go an hour before closing.

Loved their cupcakes. Really moist and perfect sweetness. Since it was a valentine day weekend, we could only try a few of their selections, but would definitely be back for more. Tried their several flavors but found red velvet(Southern Belle) and dark chocolate(James Brown) to be the best among them

On the recommendation of two friends who had their wedding cakes done here, my now husband and I chose Sugar Mama’s for our two wedding cakes at our January 2016 wedding. Sugar Mama’s delivered. After the excruciating process of tasting as many cupcake flavors as possible, we settled on the peanut butter cup(cake) for the groom’s cake and alternating layers of carrot and strawberry for the main wedding cake. Yes, the cakes both had a lot of icing, but that was one of the best parts! And honestly, with how many bakery options we have in Austin, you should be more than capable of selecting one whose style fits your needs and ideas. Sugar Mama’s knocked the designs we were looking for out of the park– the main cake was wonderfully decorated with simple icing(no fondant, who actually likes eating that stuff) and the groom’s cake with the UT seal. When our wedding planner noticed that the cake stands we’d requested didn’t arrive, we contacted Sugar Mama’s and they gave us both a refund and a $ 25 gift certificate. The cakes really didn’t need the stands, as they were gorgeous on their own. We were incredibly happy with Sugar Mama’s service throughout the process, and our guests enjoyed the leftover cake at brunch the morning after. Loved being able to support local businesses on our big day!

As far as Sugar Mama’s goes they are one of the best for cupcakes! I also love that they have options here. If you don’t want a cupcake they have other bakeshop items for you too. You can special order things or you can walk in. I have walked up and purchased a dozen cupcakes for a friend’s birthday party and it was perfect and a total hit at the party! My most recent visit we just walked in for 1 cupcake to snack on. I ordered the French Toast and it was soooo delicious. It had actual bacon on top and bits of maple morsels in the cupcake. My husband got the PB& J which I also had a bite of and was great too. He preferred my french toast one so we swapped cupcakes half way in. Another favorite they have here is the Marilyn Monroe which is a fancy vanilla flavored cupcake. It is divine. During my visit I noticed some freshly made pop tarts … I didn’t purchase this, but kind of wish I had now. If you are looking for cupcakes in South Austin then Sugar Mama’s is definitely the place to go! I am sure they will not disappoint and they are better than Hey Cupcake in my opinion.

The girl behind the counter was completely useless when I asked her for a flavor recommendation(she was all like, ummmmm). I ended up settling on the Strawberry Love, and oh my shitballs it was heavenly! The cake had the perfect density, was super moist and embedded with pieces of real fruit. I wish I could have had more than just two bites, but you know, I didn’t get this bod from sitting around and stuffing my piehole with cupcakes all day.

I’ve had Sugar Mama’s bookmarked forever and for several Mondays I kept meaning to drop by but then I’d look them up and they were closed on Mondays. lol I really love all of 1st Street; Bouldin Café is one of my favorites. And I also stopped by Dolce Neve(review to follow!)…but back to Sugar Mama’s! It’s a super cute little shop and the cupcakes are very good :) I ordered a Southern Belle because you never can go wrong with red velvet. It was definitely good but my favorite was the Honey Bee! «Our famous buttermilk honey cake with lemon curd swirled frosting. Made with love by local hipster bees in Round Rock» If you LOVE lemon like I do, you will LOVE this combination! I’ll have to stop back in to try the vegan cupcakes as I’m feeling a bit guilty about that ;)

I’m about to make a pretty bold statement, but I promise it is 100% true. The cupcake I just ate from here was the best cupcake I have ever had in my life! I’m sorry Hey Cupcake, but you have been beaten. Sugar Mama’s has got it goin on. When I checked in I had an offer for $ 1 off one cupcake, so I only spent $ 2 plus tip to enjoy this heavenly morsel. I was surprised to see the display cases practically empty so we only had a small variety of cupcakes to choose from. We both agreed that next time we will get here early. I saw the Marilyn Monroe and got it thinking it was a simple vanilla cupcake. Boy, was I wrong. My husband left empty handed since the ones available were not his cup of tea. Sucks for him! I noticed when I peeled the wrapper back that granulated sugar had been dusted all over both the icing and cake giving a little bit of a crunch when I bit into my treat. The cake part tasted exactly like a sugar cookie and was absolutely perfect! The icing was divine and had a flavor that was so familiar but I couldn’t put my finger on it. I went online to try to locate a description for my cupcake and here is what I found: The original blond bombshell — buttery vanilla cupcake topped with luscious Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla buttercream. Happy birthday, Mr. President! Bourbon!!! That’s what it was! You naughty minx! Had I been wearing socks they would have flown off my feet from pure delight. It was sweet and warm, and creamy and light. It was the cupcake I have been dreaming of. The man working behind the counter was so cheerful and sweet and now I get it. I would be the happiest girl on the planet if I got to be surrounded by these cupcakes on a daily basis. Dear sweet owner of Sugar Mama’s– if you are reading this please know that you are loved and adored by all. Keep doing what you’re doing!
