Spectacle Eye Design

After living in Austin for several years, I’ve found an official optometrist to keep long-​term. I have used glasses/​corrective lenses for roughly 15 years, which equates to dreading my annual eye exams. Not. Anymore. My visit to Spectacle Eye Design takes the cake, and I couldn’t be happier with the new pair of glasses I picked up my earlier today.
You can tell that Dr. Tam holds high standards for his company when you walk in the door– everything is clean and the décor is Austin chic at it’s finest. The front room is stacked with the perfect selection, combining various colors/​styles of both mainstream and unique/​foreign frame-​wear brands.
The staff made my entire experience of selecting new frames exciting & timely. They even had my insurance information printed out beforehand, to show me clear pricing breakdowns for my options. The only difficult part about my visit was deciding which frames to end up with! I’m a repeat customer for sure.

Love LOVE LOVE! ! ! The woman up at the front is like your long lost best friend from elementary school. She is the icing on the cake at this place.

First rate doctor and first rate facility! From scheduling my appointment to checking out, my annual eye exam was seamless. Office was clean and equipment was modern. Dr. Tam took his time and conducted a thorough eye exam. I was a bit nervous because I had missed my annual eye exam the past couple of years but the staff at Spectacle Eye Design took excellent care of me and answered all of my questions. Highly recommend Dr. Tam and his facility for any vision care needs.

The staff here is amazing! I loved Jana. She made it super easy to book an appointment and take care of my frames and lenses. She had all my insurance info ready to go and helped me find the perfect pair. Dr. Tam was very nice and made the whole process very comfortable. I’m grateful they take my insurance because I think I found my new favorite place for glasses!

I had my first visit with Dr. Tam today, and it was excellent. The exam was very thorough, and unlike some places, there was no pressure to buy glasses, or get other services, or anything. Dr. Tam is a true professional and his only concern was taking care of my eyes. I have found my new eye doctor!

Dr. Tam is professional, patient and cares about his customers. I have used him, and I have taken my two teenage kids to him as well, and all of us have gotten great service and top-​notch, skilled eye care. Several friends of mine have used him and gotten glasses and contacts from him as well, and they all agree. I would recommend Dr. Tam and Spectacle Eye Design without hesitation to all my friends.

It’s always an uneasy feeling to visit a new Dr.‘s Office, and get reacquainted as a new patient, but I am glad I found this place. Jana greeted and helped me as soon as I walked in the door for my appointment. She was super nice, friendly, and made me feel welcomed. Dr. Tam was very easy to talk to as well. He was able to explain everything to me without all the medical jargon I might not otherwise understand. They were respectful of my time, and probably even got me started before my actual appointment. The store is very nice, clean, and well-​kept. I won’t hesitate to make Spectacle Eye Design my one and only place to care for my vision.

I don’t have eye insurance any more, but my eyes are my investment. My initial thought was to go to someone whose service was agreeably appreciated. The Unilocal deal made for a nice introduction.
Dr.Tam is awesome. He is personable, intelligent, and most of all, completely genuine. My preferences for a good doctor are sincerity and patience. His exam was thorough, unrushed, and informative. He educated me of what is going on with my eyes, advised me on homecare (with samples!) and gave recommendations for opticals. Wow factor, beyond expectation.
The technology is a plus. Customer service is another plus (and Jana was sweet). These are all accessories though. What brings me to a 5 star is the vibe– Dr. Tam goes above the standard of care for vision. He is a doctor that you remember, the first name that comes to mind when your friend says, «Do you wear contacts? Who should I go to?»

I went into spectacle for an eye exam and some new frames. It is a beautiful place with a large selection of frames. The employees were all extremely kind and welcoming. I will be going back for my next pair of frames.

I freaking love this place, which is so weird to say about any doctor’s office, but seriously — if they accept your insurance here, GO HERE.
The place is really cool looking on the inside — very Austin-​y. The staff is absolutely wonderful, super helpful, and very nice. My boyfriend and I were seriously impressed by the selection of frames. They are unique, many of them being designed by locals, with a design and frame to fit just about anyone. My boyfriend was jealous that they don’t accept his insurance haha — but he did get a pair of awesome shades!

Dr. Tam was very welcoming and hospitable and the ladies at the front were very sweet. My wife’s designer sunglasses had a missing nose piece. We came in and within minutes we had a fixed pair of sunglasses. These guys are great.

What can I say about this place that isn’t the same ol’ same ol’? JANA! That’s what. This lady had me at Hello. So nice and helpful. She didn’t bat an eye when I mentioned my budget.
Besides being quite a fashionista herself, she has a great eye for helping find something that looks good on you.
She helped out with the insurance bit with a smile, makin fun of the dreadful hold music.
Did I mention that I walked in at the end of the day with no appointment? The level of customer service I received is hard to come by. They have my business from now on!

I visited Spectacle Eye Design a week ago and was treated with world-​class customer service. I came in for an eye exam as well as a contact lens exam. Jana was extremely professional, accommodating and made me feel at home. Jana did the initial screenings using what appeared to be very modern high tech equipment… then Dr. Tam brought me in for the eye exams. Dr. Tam also made me feel very comfortable and at ease. The exams were quick and painless. Once completed I was able to browse through their large inventory of modern and trendy frames. I will continue to see Dr. Tam yearly for my eye examination needs. World Class customer service!

Best staff of any optometrist around. Colin is the nicest doc you’ll ever meet. They have a great selection of glasses and frames and a very cool ambiance to the office. If you need glasses or to get your eyes checked go see Colin at spectacle.

Having moved here from Oklahoma, I had to find a new place for my yearly eye exam. I searched Unilocal and found that this place had wonderful reviews, and even though it’s not in my neighborhood, I decided to give it a try. Spectacle Eye Design did not disappoint! The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, the interior of the building is lovely, there’s a wide selection of very unique frames, and the whole appointment was stress free (and it started on time, woo!). I also love that they are paper free.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this place!

I can’t say enough great things about Dr. Tam and his amazing staff. So far I have taken both of my sons (ages 7 and 12) to see Dr. Tam. They were friendly, professional and never pushy about selling frames. My sons both actually enjoyed going in which was comforting for me. I’ll be next and I’m looking forward to it.
5 stars for friendly staff and a beautiful space! We will be back.

What a great staff!
Everyone is very attentive and easy to work with. I normally don’t enjoy optometrist appointments… the puff of air in your eye, trying not to blink when instructed, and getting pressured into buying glasses… that is what I am used to… none of that here!
No wait, no puff of air in your eye, and the staff is really helpful, and not overly concerned about selling frames. On top of that Dr. Tam was very patient and answered all of my questions without getting overly technical.
Appointment was easy to set up and there was no wait. They have a great selection of frames and they accepted my insurance.

Super clean, fast, nice, and intellegent.
Dr. Tam is very nice and easy to talk to.
If there was a down side, I would recommend them to stock more eye wear, though I did find a pair I liked there I did get some somewhere else.
Would def recommend Spectacle to anyone!
