I felt a few visits would be fair before leaving a review. I would not recommend this place unless you are daring with your hair color and have an open mind for trying new things. If not, It’s not for you. Everything is priced alacarte, otherwise be prepared to be asked«oh you don’t want to leave with wet hair? Blowouts are extra and I didn’t book your time». Correction, Ms Stylist, you probably took way too long and want to make more money? I’m not sure what but word to the wise, I was given a Color Membership Groupon and Two haircut Groupons as a gift and each visit there, it’s been a chore to get it «explained» how I needed to pay more somehow and they don’t offer what it says(what??) in the end, I wound up saving(I think) but I’m still not sure. The reception is not warm or inviting. It’s not a professional or comfortable vibe at all. The talent, inconsistent. My scalp was burned all three times I went. Not initially, but days later I had severe scaling like a bad sunburn. The last time it was the top of my ears, so I know it was the color. How does that happen with organic color? It also takes way too long. 90 minutes for a color, trim and blowout should be good, no? Not here. Be prepared to be 2hrs+. I thought about getting my money’s worth and asking for color correction the last visit since it was waaaay off what I wanted but decided I didn’t want to deal with it or risk another worse outcome. Sorry Salon Colour Bar. Cool concept but the execution needs a huge makeover.

Went to colour my vergin black hair for the first time. Selected a color suggested by the stylist, Spent 3.5 hrs and no result at all, not even slight change. When I got back home I noticed all my grey hair were also as it is, no color change of the roots as well. So definitely it makes me think the color was not either properly mixed or applied/dried properly. To make up for it they didn’t charge me for colour and trim. But it was disappointing, went all the way that far, wasted 3.5 hrs after being tired from work, got color applied on my hair for the first time so damage will be there no matter color got on my hair or not.

The Braid & Bun Bar at the Beauty Jar(aka the Salon Colour Bar) is pretty nice. I booked them to do my wedding hair, as well as the hair for my 4 bridesmaids. I chose them specifically because they boast being able to do nice braids for the low cost of $ 35(if you don’t request hot tool work or something complex). They also do nice airbrush foundation, concealer, and blush for the VERY reasonable cost of $ 20. I did the rest of my eye make-up and it worked out really well. Before the wedding day, I booked two trials. I also had to pay a 50% deposit in order to reserve our wedding day appointments. For the most part I didn’t have any trouble, but I had to re-explain what I wanted and when I wanted it to four different people. I think the communication between employees is really lacking, so not everyone knows what’s going on. But fortunately my appointments were held. Aurelia definitely is a braid genius. All of us have pretty thick hair except for my matron of honor. Her hair is really fine and doesn’t hold a lot of texture. She wanted a braided updo, and the first woman that did her hair did an awful job(I don’t know her name). It basically looked like her hair was plastered flat against her head with one thin braid wrapped around the side. Horrified, she had it redone by Aurelia and it looked amazing. Somehow, she managed to produce some volume, giving the updo a lot more texture. She swirled several braids around my MOH’s head, and she looked amazing. Another bridesmaid has exceptionally thick hair to the point that the stylist didn’t realize she had already tried flattening it with an iron! But somehow Brizzy managed to tame the frizz and sculpt the top half into a sleek twist while wrapping the bottom half into a braid across the nape of my friend’s neck. I had never seen anything like that before, but it looked great. The rest of us had our hair done by Aurelia and Brizzy, and we all looked great. The booking process may have been a bit obnoxious because I had to book through 4 different people, but in the end it worked out great.

Yeah, I expected better. I’ve been wanting to try out The Beauty Jar for some time now and when I saw the groupon I was so excited. I went in today for a Signature Woman’s Haircut, which according to the website and groupon includes«a luxurious hand exfoliation & anti-aging treatment, an organic hair wash, hot towel conditioning & blow dry.» I had a 11am appointment with Madeline. Luckily I googled the location beforehand because they changed the name, it’s now called Salon Colour Bar(thanks for the heads up). I got there 10 minutes early. No issues with parking. I walked in wasn’t greeted by anyone one, went up to the girl at the computer to check in. Normally when I go to any business, I get a «hello» or «welcome», nada here. The receptionist, Patricia, told me Madeline would be with me in a couple of minutes and to have a sit. Their waiting area is really 2 wooden bar stools in front of what looks like the counter they mix colors judging by they stuff left on top(foil & whisk with bleach on it). I’ve never been to a salon that mixes color in the front or leaves dirty things out in the front. Thought it was weird but whatever. So I waited, and waited, and wasn’t offered anything to drink — another thing I expected at ANY salon especially when there’s a wait. At 11:15am Brizy came up to me and said that Madeline didn’t know she had an 11am appt. booked so she had taken a walk in, she did apologize and said either I could wait about 15 minutes for Madeline to finish or Patricia could do my hair(I guess everyone is the receptionist when they aren’t busy). I went with Patricia who went to the back to get her things ready. I was still sitting in the front when Oralia came up to me and asked if I was getting a haircut, to which I responded yes. She said okay and to follow her to her chair. I had watched Oralia with her customer as I waited and thought she was good at her job, so when she took to me her chair I though maybe she had an opening and was going to do my hair instead of Patricia. Things started to look up. She asked what I wanted, told her 4 – 5 inches off all one length and thinned out(she didn’t ask about my bangs). She took me to the sink and washed my hair. At that point I had my eyes closed and she had a conversation with co worker in spanish while washing my hair. I kinda thought it was rude to talk in another language in front of customers and all four ladies(Brizy, Patricia, Oralia, Carmen) at one point or another while I was there spoke spanish to each other. Oralia told me that Madeline was still very new to the salon and didn’t check the online book so she didn’t know I was going to be there so she hadn’t shown up. That statement alone contradicted what Brizy and Patricia had told me about Madeline being«right with me». At that point I just wanted my haircut and to leave. When Oralia was done washing my hair she walked me over to a different station. Another thing I was thought was very strange was that she didn’t wrap a towel around my wet hair when I walked from the sink to the chair. I ended up back with Patricia(around 11:30, 30 minutes after my original appt). At some point Oralia must have told Patricia what I wanted with my hair. Patricia started cutting my hair, she did a good job on that. But she didn’t thin it out, nor ask about my bangs. Like I said I just wanted to get out of here so I didn’t say anything. She blow dried it when she was done. I don’t even think she asked if I liked it or if there was anything she need to fix/change before she went to the front to check me out. I didn’t get any of the hand treatment or hot towel conditioning that was suppose to be included. I showed her the groupon, give her a tip, and got the hell out of there. I’ve had better service at supercuts. I’m not going to warn y’all to run the other way, my experience may have been a one time deal, it may not. Y’all can risk y’alls money, all I know is I am never going back. Not even for the amazing sounding Braid and Bun bar. The students at Regency Beauty School can do that for me at a cheaper price. My advice: don’t book online and don’t expect to get the little things salons offer.
