Came here for my birthday lunch with my co-workers, it’s a cute little sandwich shop with a couple spots inside for seating. Maybe it was the combination in my sandwich that was oddly strange that makes me think this place is just ok. I’ve never had kimchi in a sandwich and growing up as a asian american i’m kind of surprised since this city likes to put kimchi in odd dishes these days. I love banh mi so thought trying the special banh mi would be amazing plus anything with pâté makes me happy these days. This is not the case for the sandwich combination with kimchi just kind of clashed with my flavor palette. Next time i come by i’ll probably try something else maybe even try the breakfast here on a weekend but stay away from sandwiches with kimchi unless it has bulgogi in it.

Best sandwiches in Austin by a long shot. Favorites are the Jive Turkey and Unruly Roast. Kimchi Brussels Sprouts are bonkers, too! Finally, they easily have the best tots in town.

Kinda pricey, but yes… it was good. That’s it though, it was good, not great. $ 10 for a sandwich with no sides that bad boy better make me, oh never mind, you get the picture. I wasn’t over the moon about it. Also, I’m aware that Austin isn’t truck friendly, but this place isn’t really even car friendly. They have a very small handful of spaces and if you don’t get one… hope you can walk from your house. I know this area has lots of bikers and walkers so… hope that works for y’all, but I’m not going to pay $ 10 for a sandwich and struggle to park. I’ll meet y’all at La Mancha down the way.

We were hungry and looking for a new place to try today. I can’t say the 5 star reviews lived up to our expectations. Being a HUGE rueben sandwich fan. This had to be one of my least favorite non chain trys. I had to ask for extra dressing just to get some kind of flavor. My husband wasn’t very impressed with his either. Like other reviewers. We just expected more taste and wow factor for being five stars. It was worth a shot though.

IDK. I’ll write 10 more reviews for any new breakfast taco that comes by. I can’t get over that $ 3 can buy my whole morning of happiness. Yesterday I tried the kimchi(republic taco) and it was out of this world. It stunk up my whole office space, but it was so worth it. Delicious flavors. Everything was fresh and yummy and quality controlled. Will probably be a regular here now. My coworker said the green eggs and ham was the best taco she ever ate in the world. That’s next on my bucket list.

Yes, I’m updating my five-star review… with ANOTHER five-star review! Having come back again, shamelessly hankering for another bite of the world-class Reuben, I was pleasantly surprised by the consistency in the quality. The no-sog Reuben and the hot-to-order tater tots were NOT a fluke! I decided I only wanted a bite of my companion’s Rueben and got the ‘wich that seems to make up half the darned Unilocal photos… the Big Bad Wolf. OMG this is an excellent sandwich — perfect proportions of each meat on the bun, and delightful celery-seed cole slaw to set the whole thing off. Whoever came up with this combo was on their game. Props to the guys running the place for having Maine Root soda on tap… specifically, their awesome Ginger Brew. This is gourmet stuff, folks. Finally, ultra-props to the gent who rang me up… we had a miscommunication(probably my fault) and he undercharged me 1 soda. He said ‘no problem’, so I made sure to tip good in recompense. If you’re reading these reviews, I hope we’re all copasetic guys! This place STILL pegs the ‘CTJ Scale’ at 5 stars, as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Would be OK being seen eating here by Mother Mary. 3 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Joseph good. Would be OK having a beer here with Jesus’ Dad. 2 out of 5 stars: Come-to-the-Apostles good. Meh. Wouldn’t have my last supper here. 1 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Nobody good. I wouldn’t have my penultimate supper here, either.

Now I’m confused. I have stated that the Blind Squirrel is the best Sammy in the area. But this place meets that experience. They just take the basics and inject culinary steroids. Wow. The sides were just as special as the sammy. FYI I had the Mac salad and Brussel sprouts. If there is a better place I have found it and I’ve been looking.

A friend and I hopped in for a quick bite last week and were not disappointed by the many unique offerings of RoS. This is definitely a smaller place than I had imagined — for a Republic, but they have ample parking and seating for their simple digs. And a ton of sandwiches and breakfast tacos to choose from! We ordered at the counter, and the lady who helped us was very nice — even patiently waiting while my friend and I read the menu board, and she also explained the sides. I had the Reuben and let’s just say it was nothing short of amazing. It came with home-made everything — a light, not too sour sauerkraut, a light version of thousand island that did not detract from the piles of succulent corned beef. I also opted for a side of very nicely done, crispy tater tots. I’d definitely come back to RoS — I have a few ideas of people I’d love to bring here to try out their tasty eats. Thanks for being awesome, I’ll be back!

As if the sandwiches weren’t perfect and made from scratch, the sides are like, wow! I thought I didn’t care for pasta salad until I had theirs. They are always friendly and eager to help. Love this place.

Good coffee, smoked meats(these guys been smoking something), breakfast tacos, great sandwiches… Best bacon(smoked as well) in town that I know of… Excellent tater tots(off the menu item), great sides, Maine Root drinks… and to top all that, great hospitality! These peeps also do a good job catering

Good flavors, poor execution. I had«The Earl»(essentially a Cuban). The pork was dry and the pickles were wet, resulting in a difficult-to-chew sammich that disintegrated in my hands. The proprietor asked for my opinion and didn’t like my answer. We were encouraged to leave.

We went here for lunch today. I had a Reuben. It was good. My lunch companions also enjoyed their sandwiches. I’m not sure why there are so many five star reviews though. I have to admit being disappointed in my lunch — because there were so many five star reviews I was expecting something fabulous. Instead, I just got a tasty, if somewhat expensive sandwich.

This place is LEGIT. They make all of their own deli meats from scratch. That should be ’nuff said, but I’ll go on just because y’all need to know how delicious these sandwiches are. I ate their unruly roast sandwich and first bite in, I wished I had a spare stomach. Not because of the portion size, but because it’s just so damn delicious, I wanted to order two! My fiancé got the club and it was a good, classic ‘wich. Not my style though, I like branching out and trying the new, the unique! I can’t wait to come back to Austin and eat something fabulous here again. Equally awesome were the staff. Thanks for letting me pick your brains, guys! I love your passion for delicatessen. This truly is a chef-driven establishment.

They say in order to build a great sandwich, one must use the best ingredients. Here they completely abide by these rules. Individually all of the sandwich components were awesome, but all together I have to admit I wasn’t loving it. The bread they use is amazing! If I came back for breakfast and got an egg and cheese sandwich on that bread I would be one happy lady. The tator tots were also good. Warm, perfectly crisp, and salty. You must try their house hot sauce too. I got the Pharoahe Munch which is currently their vegetarian special. It has broccoli rabe, artichokes, tapenade, hummus, long hots, pickled onions, and a lemon vinaigrette. Again, I liked each item on its own but together thought the salt level was overpowering. The broccoli rabe wasn’t the long stalks I was expecting but more like cooked spinach with stems. I can’t say I would order this one again. But! Would I go back and order something else? In a heartbeat. My husband had the big bad wolf sandwich and loved it! That one has roast pork, ham, bacon, celery seed coleslaw, and provolone. The quality of food is great, so if you stick to things you normally like paired together then you will be set. They have Maine Root sodas on tap which rocks but seating is limited. I noticed a lot of people got their sandwiches to go. They have 2 – 3 outside tables that seat two people each and are dog friendly as well.

Three Little Pigs: roasted pork, ham, bacon all suffered their demise in a story call the Big Bad Wolf. I arrived to a restaurant made of brick and limited parking, in fact one blink and I would have missed Republic of Sandwich tucked near a neighboring gas station. I was too famished to huff and puff and blow any houses down today. I walked into this cozy establishment, it had a feel as if locals new about this spot all long whereas myself whom had this bookmarked on Unilocal finally made it here. I ordered the Big Bad Wolf which consisted of roast pork, ham, bacon, celery seed coleslaw, provolone. I ordered my sandwich to go it took a about 10 minutes to be completed. Service was minimal and there’s no room to really stand and wait if you choose to sit and wait you may feel as if you’re taking up their already limited seating. The sandwich was pretty delicious, the bacon and coleslaw complimented the sandwich with a nice crunch, the pull pork was house made and you could smell it from a smoker on your way in. It was pretty tender as well. I added some of their house hot sauce, but the flavor wasn’t memorable. The sandwiches robust for $ 10 bucks and filling. I’m looking forward to try some items off of the breakfast menu since this is near my job. In the end this Big Bad Wolf left the restaurant that served me the Three Little Pigs very satisfied. I’m looking forward to my next visit.

The Unruly Roast sandwich is loaded with delicious and tender(with a hint of pink) roast beef. The onion and gouda cheese that accompanied the meat were nice accompaniments to the meat and I liked that the onion wasn’t raw so no unwanted aftertaste. Topped with a smooth horseradish based sauce and served on a fresh french roll, this was definitely a winner in my book. An overall solid sandwich. Along with that, I enjoyed a small side of their kimchi Brussel sprouts. While I can’t say they tasted much like kimchi, I this side was pretty good. I’d characterize the sprouts as being sweet with a small amount of heat and very little sourness. It’s a nice side option and I could see myself ordering it again.

I’ve heard nothing but good things about this place and it did not disappoint. I ordered the Big Bad Wolf(roast pork, ham, bacon, celery seed coleslaw, provolone) and it was great. The perfect size and the balanced symphony of flavor between the 3 types of pork was fantastic. The bread was excellent too. I did not like either of the sides I got(smoked mozzarella pasta salad and hoppin’ john), but the sandwich being great plus the staff being really really nice will get me back here.

Thank you Unilocal and fellow Unilocaler’s. Without you, your reviews, and, your delicious pictures. I may never have found this place. I am rarely in this hood. So glad we have a sandwich spot like this. I love a mean sandwich, and, these guys serve one up. Nothing fast food, frozen, thawed and toasted about these guys. They cure their own meats? What? You want a SANDWICH? Come here. These guys don’t bullshit. They even serve up breakfast taco’s! Boom! They close at three on the weekends, so keep that in mind. I got the Earl. Mounds of roasted pork, smoked ham, a pickle, swiss, and, my favorite condiment, MUSTARD!!! Holy Mother of all pork sandwiches! I felt like they had me in mind when they put this bad boy together! All my favorite ingredients without the annoyance of chopped lettuce falling everywhere. When you can honestly say that a sandwich doesn’t need lettuce and tomato, you know you’ve just experienced something magical and special. I can’t wait to dig deeper into their menu. They also offer sides that are made in house. I tried the macaroni salad with smoked mozz. It was pretty good stuff. But, honestly, unless you have a huge appetite, the sandwich itself is enough. Having said that, I will probably try the curied cauliflower and pickled veggies next time I’m in. This place is small and fills up fast. Expect to be out at least $ 10, but, quality and quantity are definitely in your sandwich! Enjoy!

Here’s a secret — this place does amazing breakfast tacos. And if you order before 11am, you can replace the tortilla with a sandwich roll for two more bucks, and get a taste of the sandwich fare everyone keeps raving about. For half the price. And it’s good stuff. Let’s keep this between ourselves. Kthxbye. ************************ (Editor’s note: Errol M sincerely believes his parents turn in their graves when he pays $ 9 or more for a hipster sandwich, so he rarely orders them. But he has no such compunction regarding breakfast tacos, and since he included pics of the Republic of Sandwich tacos, we’ll let his review stand.
