Jeanne Butterfield called this morning to say she wanted to show my house to some buyers at 3. No problem, I said. Spent two hours cleaning the house with two kids underfoot. Got out of the house and was out with the boys when I thought I would send her a text to see when she’d be. First she texted back that she was just sitting down for some Chinese food and would I like to join her. Except she wrote, «Waana come?» Strange. Then she sends another text. «Sorry wrong person! Buyer quit for day & we will not be there.» This is infuriating. Had I not bothered to check on her progress, I never would have known she was not on her way. I had to get two boys and a large dog out of the house for her. Her lack of consideration assumed we’d eventually figure out she wasn’t coming and just wander home, I suppose. This isn’t the first time a realtor has pulled this on us. Usually my wife just mutters an ancient curse against these nincompoops and scares us all. This time I thought I’d have a go at it and texted back to the wayward realtor, «What is your name and company again?» No answer. She preferred to remain unaccountable for her behavior. And were I as stupid as she were rude, she would have been safe. Unfortunately for the lunching Miss Butterfield, I have heard of Google. I had to track her name down by cross-referencing her mobile number with her webpage: Maybe next time she won’t be so thoughtless with the time of someone selling a house who, were she to do her job successfully, would pay her several thousand dollars. Perhaps if she thought of it that way, she might not treat people with so little consideration.

Aubrey helped me find and buy my house! She is a pro and won’t let you do anything stupid. She knows the city and the market.
