Their two-dollar pupusas are divine! I’d go back to get my pupusa fix. I didn’t realize until after our second stop that there is the register at the back of the store that might get your order in faster. They’re packaging is inconsistent– one time the bag started leaking cabbage juice, so ask them to wrap that part in foil!

I just wanted to add that if you come in for breakfast/lunch/dinner pay for your food at the register and then go to the cafeteria. during lunch time it gets crowded with kids from the highschool across the street. there is also additional parking in the back. 2 gorditas and a mexican coke is$ 7.44. im a fan for life.

This chain of mexican stores is good for cheap tacos(2 for a $ 1 at breakfast) and slightly overpriced drinks. They also have a large selection of fresh cut meat. Overall a good place.

Just moved to the 78723, and I was excited to find a plethora of Mexican markets and taquerias in neighborhood. With so many options, i chose one randomly, and I stopped by La Michoacana on a Sunday afternoon for look around and a quick bite to eat. After checking out the meat counter, and being suitably impressed by the array of Mexican meat favorites(two varieties of chicharróns, both beef and lamb barbacoa, pre-marinated bistec and pastor, etc) I headed over to the cashier to place my lunch order. I went with a couple of lengua tacos, and a barbacoa torta, which came out to $ 6.50. The torta was exactly what I expected, in a good way. The fresh crusty bread was topped with beans, avocado, a healthy slather of tangy mayo, and a big pile of shredded beef barbaco. The tacos, while more modest in size, were delicious, and the lengua was quite good. Most of the staff does not speak English, so it helps to to know a bit of Spanish. The parking lot was pretty shady, so plan accordingly.

This place is über-shady. As in, don’t leave your aura unlocked in the parking lot. But the bakery is DIVINE. If you can’t get to La Mexicana Bakery on South First, this will do in a pinch.

This grocery store is really way too expensive. I’m not paying $ 4.50 for a gallon of milk! Save yourself some money and go to the HEB or Fiesta.

I love little mexican markets. I ventured outside of my already stuffed to the gills with mexican markets neighborhood to try this«houston» chain. It was… mediocre. Nothing you wouldn’t find at any other place. It loses three stars because pork adobado was realllllly fatty and the fajitas were realllly stringy and weirdly had bones in it. The prices were cheap though — I’ll give them that. Of course, how much time i wasted cutting out the bones is to be determined. I’ll stick to North Lamar

Helps a LOT if you know how to converse in Spanish, as many of the employees speak only Spanish. Good thing I know how to point to what I want in Spanish — - They have a meat counter with a lot of choices. The signs for the meats are in English and Spanish so as to avoid buying the wrong meat by mistake. They sell quail and lamb as well as the standard chicken, beef, and pork. They also sell shrimp. If you are in the neighborhood, stop by for the produce, which is dirt cheap. I bought tomatoes for 59 cents a pound, and a bunch of cilantro was 39 cents. They also carry a fascinating assortment of Mexican spices across from the meat counter, that ranged in price from 99 cent to $ 1.98. Cheaper than the spice aisle at HEB. There are lots of other interesting ethnic foods to check out as well. Also, they take all credit cards – including Discover and American Express.

As far as a cheep place to get some good grub, this is «Woohoo! As good as it gets!» I got two tacos(one chicharron and one pollo), a «res with papa gordita, and a topo chico por six dollars. It was delicious and sabroso». Also, I can get cuts of meat for my caldo at home. One stop shop for lunch and«lonches». Be sure to order your food at the register. P. S.- «We only accept reviews in English, French or German at this time. Please confirm the primary language of your review.» WTF do you mean? F-you Unilocal.Speakeda Spanish? Did you read my previous review? Hay espanol!

I have yet to try the meats from the butcher/carniceria. Which, yes I must add is a full-on butcher counter. No sliced deli meats here. The taqueria counter is fantastic. Traditional classics like barbacoa, potato/egg, puerco asado, chorizo tacos, plus menudo, gorditas, sopes — like tostadas but on soft masa — and tlacuyas(I think), which are similar to gorditas. The counter is wide open in the middle of the store and you can watch the women cook the food and make the tortillas from scratch. There is also a decent bakery section with essentials like fruit empanadas, bolillos, churros, etc. This place is lovely. As an aside: be prepared to flex your Spanish tongue. No mucho ingles aqui.

This place is awesome. Where else can you get an authenic mexican taco, a new cell phone, an NFL jersey. and an agua fresca? The grocery store stocks all kinds of spices, herbs, and products that you would find in a traditional Mexican«tiendita». The service is genuinely hospitable and gracious. But I must say that the chicken tacos are by far my favorite. Tex Mex tacos are filled with fillers like tons of cheese, sour cream, and lettuce. However, the tacos at La Michoacana are more authenticley Mexican and therefore only contain chicken, cilantro and onion. yummy

I’ve been to this place to get marinated fajita meat to grill for fajitas. I don’t know what they put in the marinade, but the chicken and beef fajita, beef ribs, and chicken breast(all marinaded differently) are awesome! This is also a serious butcher shop — if you want to roast a whole pig on a spit, you can buy it here. It seems like real butcher shops are hard to come by these days.(Also, the meat is very reasonably priced.) This place also has a lunch counter that looks really yummy, but I haven’t tried it yet. Next time!

A coworker took me here a couple of days ago for lunch and I was pleased with what I saw. A combination mexican grocery/meat market/taqueria, this place has great prices and pretty good food. The Al Pastor was great as were the laguna tacos. For 5 tacos, a torta, and 2 drinks we ended up paying a little over $ 8. The prices in their meat market also looked to be pretty good, and if you’re looking for mexican grocery specialty items this is your place. Just know before you go that VERY little, if any english is spoken here, so if that scares you just go somewhere else. Leaves more cheap tasty tacos for the rest of us.
