Hey, before you buy yourself a crappy slice of pizza, an overcooked hotdog or whatever other substandard offerings dirty 6th has an offer. Do yourself a favor and head over to this little store on Nueces to try out the Shawarma.
I think this place might offer the only authentic Shawarma I’ve had in the US, and I’ve had a chance to have the legit stuff in Syria, Jordan and Lebanon. The owners know their stuff, being from the region themselves!
The chicken and lamb shawarma are absolutely delicous, featuring the same seasonings I tasted years back while visiting the region: Cardamom, cumin, cinnamon and many others. The shawarma is cooked on a flat top with delicious garlic mayo, fries (IN THE SANDWICH!) and pickles. Despite looking like a common convenience store, this place offers some of the best street food I’ve had in the area.
Now go eat some shawarma and swear off that refrigerated gyro meat for the rest of your life, stat!

Great little convenience store, recently updated to include a small kitchen. Now they not only sell your favorite drinks, tobacco, and lottery tickets but they also serve Halal dishes at night. And if i do say so myself the lamb wraps are on par with the halal food across the street. The staff is friendly, and quick. Stop on by when you’re visiting the dirty side of sixth.
