The food is fine, and it’s a good value for the money. What I really want to say is two things: 1) The context in which you eat these hotdogs(i.e. Barton Springs Food Court) MUST be on a night where there is live music. 2) I never knew how difficult it was to eat food with a spork until this hot dog. Awesome dog !!! being from the north east, I consider myself a hot dog authority :) one of the tastiest dogs I have eaten to date. I live across town but do not hesitate to travel to Barton Springs for one of those puppies !

While the most expensive dog on the menu, the Jesse Dayton is worth every penny because it is a meal and a half. The hot dog was hot. The bacon was crispy. The brisket chopped and piled high. I got it with the BBQ Sause on the side, and poured just little bit on, there were so many flavors already that it didn’t need it. The food trailer park where HTHD’s is located is also great, they often have bands or DJ’s playing, so it is a great experience other than just the food. I will be going back.

Tried this last night on the spur of the moment. Neat little area just off Barton Springs road. Nice picnic tables with canopies. Nice band on a cute little trailer stage. Nice selection of food — hot dogs, kabobs, pizza, thai and fresh fruit(but it was closed). I felt like a hot dog and went here based on reviews. My wife is not a big hot dog fan, but decided to go with me. After looking at the menu, she tried the corn dog. It was okay but not great. I had the chili dog and it was fantastic. She ended up eating at least half of it too. Great buns, but the«dog» is what makes it. The«Vienna» dogs are really outstanding and the chili has just the right kick. Fries were crispy and tasty. will definitely go back.

The Chronicle’s food cart challenge brought me here Saturday night and I am so grateful it did. The dogs we got were great — I got the spicy kraut dog and my mom got a chili dog. The chili is dynamite — doesn’t taste like any chili I’ve had before and had me licking the bowl it came in. The spicy kraut dog was perfect and exactly what I wanted. I want to add though that the food — as awesome as it was — was only half the pleasure of this place. There was a terrific band playing, a dance area, half a dozen other food carts, and some of the friendliest people I’ve found in Austin in years. The whole place reminded me of the kind of Austin experience I used to have all the time when I was in college here 20 years ago. The owner of the whole courtyard(and also the magic behind Honky Tonk Hot Dogs) sat down and chatted with my mom for about 10 minutes about his chili recipe. He was incredibly kind and accommodating. He even brought out stickers for my two young daugters. It didn’t hurt that he’s one of the best looking guys in Texas no joke(right behind my hubsand of course). Parking was a pain but so worth it. I would’ve hung out there all evening if I hadn’t been on a mission to collect the rest of my stamps for the chronicle challenge.

Wow… these dogs are amazing. Made this girl smile for sure… went with a few friends and we eached ordered something different. I had to get theJesse Dayton’s jumbo deep fried bacon oil rig dog. damn thats a mouth full, but so is Honky Tonk’s dogs. It was yummy, wrapped in bacon deep fried topped with brisket, and god knows what else. it was amazing! My friend ordered the mac and cheese topped dog and it was great too… and omg the Joe Jerkin’s cheese steak dog was killer too… topped with homemade cheese steak and all the fixins! We had to get the chili cheese fries… large enough or several people to share. I can’t say enough about this place. that country boy and his little lady sure know what they are doing. plus he sings! How can you go wrong with a that combo… we came at a time where he had to run out to a show after cooking all day in that little trailer. he didn’t miss a beat with his cooking skills, even though he was scrambling to get to his late night gig! I’m a fan, and once you try it, you won’t want to eat a hotdog anywhere else.

What more can I say, This place is amazing! Great selection of hotdogs, the people working are super nice and accommodating. The park where this place is pretty great as well, tons of great selections. We live south, so we will be back soon, when the hot dog craving hits.

I hadnt been by this trailer park in a while so I was happy to see that the lot was prettied up for the carts. There is plenty of parking, lots of covered seating, and even a play area for the kids. Honkey Tonk has a great looking menu. I read that the double bacon wrapped, deep fried dog was good(how can it not be) but decided on the hot kielbasa instead. It came on what seemed like a griddle toasted bun which was very good and loaded with fried onions and peppers. The kielbasa was good but I like mine spicier and the onions and peppers could have been cooked longer. I prefer onions/peppers on the soft side for a dog. But overall it was very good and Ill be coming back.

There is no greater experience in life then when your expectations are exceeded; in the game of dogs, Honky Tonk Hot Dogs stands alone. You’re greeted with a smile, served promptly, and the experience only gets better from there. Professional and friendly service is the norm and the food is far too delicious to describe. You must visit Honky Tonk… do it now, do it often.

I went to this trailer park today and had no idea Honky Tonk Hot Dogs existed. Now I will never forget that it exists. It. Was. Amazing. So let me tell you what happened. There’s a bunch of delicious food there, so I was having a hard time deciding. But I walked up to the cart and was greeted by Scott, a very friendly, young, bearded, cowboy hat yielding man who was more than happy to tell me about his business and answer any questions I had. I asked him for recommendations. He named a few. Then he got to the good stuff. He got to the quarter pound Nathan frank, double wrapped in thick cut bacon, deep fried. That sounded amazing. I looked below it and I saw the brisket dog. What is it? It’s a Vienna dog smothered in brisket and barbecue sauce. So all this goodness got the olé mind wheel’s turning and I had a revelation on par with Spinoza, or Steve Jobs, or Oprah: combine the two. He was happy and excited to oblige. So let’s get the record straight, because he mentioned adding this to the menu and while Scott is great and will call it whatever he likes, I will forever call it the Romedawg Gonzalez: it’s a quarter pound Nathan frank double wrapped in thick cut bacon – deep fried, smothered in a brisket and barbecue goodness, topped with jalapenos on a toasty, buttery bun. I’m not even going to talk about how it tasted because it tasted just as obscenely and illegally delicious as it sounds. I told my friend several times«There is nothing wrong with any of this. Not a damn thing.» Austin has good hot dogs. Frank’s is great, and I enjoy it. But the personal touch of Scott and Honky Tonk, and the great, hidden discoveries of that very nice, intimate park on a beautiful Texas pink cloud evening, and the live music and fantastic feeling of community in everyone indulging in delicious comestible fantasticity – well, I think I’m hanging my hat at Honky Tonk Hot Dogs. Oh yea, and the chili cheese tater tots are meaty, cheesy, and TOTally great. +free booz at the park. But donate. Your donations go to funding the next week of free beer/champagne.

We have a New Hit on the Austin food trailer scene and it is called Honky Tonk Hot Dogs. Driving home today, traffic was stopped on S. Lamar so I looked over to see all these new trailers in this lot. I pulled into the parking lot, walked up and met the owner operator. Really nice guy who(as well as myself) Loves hot dogs yet couldn’t find a decent dog in town, so he decided to open up a hot dog trailer of his own. I am SO glad that he did, I ordered a chili dog with spicy mustard. I asked him what brand of dogs he is using and he gave me the perfect answer, VIENNABEEF. Having lived in Chicago, N.Y. and Austin, I know almost ever single dog there is and Vienna is the best. He served me up a great looking chili dog and when I took my first bite, I paused, and said to myself, Holy crap that’s one great dog. The bun was steamed, the dog boiled(he did say you could get it grilled or deep fried as well), chili was fresh and flavorful. The fries were delicious as well, good seasoning and a nice crispy coating. The only problem I had was when I took a drink of my soda, it washed all the great flavors away. He said they are going to have live music there and maybe a dance floor, who needs to go to clubs anymore and pay over priced entrance fees, over priced beer(you can bring your own) when you have this neighborhood gem. I will be back soon and bring my friends and family, spread the word, there is a new hot dog king in the town!!!
