H.J. Lutcher Stark Center for Physical Culture and Sports

This is a great place for fans of strong men and women. They have an entire exhibit of body building and strongman culture and history coupled with rotating exhibits. I recently went here for the Nazi Olympics exhibit and I thoroughly enjoyed my time learning about this important mix of historical events and sports. The exhibit was large enough that it took over an hour to make it though and enjoy the items and information. It was also laid out in a way that made it easy to get through while telling its historical story. I was a huge fan of being one of two people in the museum — the other was my wife. I would highly recommend this museum and especially the Nazi Olympics exhibit while it is in town.
A few helpful hints for getting there. Enter the stadium through door 16 on the north side of the complex. Park in the soccer and track stadium parking lot. Once you are inside the stadium, look to your left, go through that door and take the elevator to the 6^th floor. It should be the only single digit floor the elevator goes to. Once inside, the staff could have been a little more helpful. We weren’t sure if we were in the right location and the student manning the front desk just kind of stared at us and waited for us to ask if we are in the right place. He then just went back to his computer and didn’t say anything else. Overall, this place was a really great time.

This rating is for the «Our Body — The Universe Within» exhibit. Fascinating! Donated human bodies have been preserved using a «plastination» process, which enables all of the muscles, skin, and organs to look intact.
Probably not for the squeamish, but it’s a very interesting exhibit that should be experienced!

We rode down here on Saturday to check out the stiffs. By «stiffs» I mean the preserved and dissected bodies on display in the amazing traveling exhibit «Our Body Within». These are REAL preserved corpses, donated from Chinese Medical schools. Bodies are displayed whole and in parts, by system. Ever want to see a man’s penis split down the middle or cut crosswise? Neither did I, but they have them here. There’s also a disembodied vajayjay with fallopian tubes and uterus attached. Something for everyone!
The coolest display was an entire body cut horizontally into ½″ slices, in a twenty foot display case. Like an MRI but… er… not.
Imagine what it would look like if you fell into an industrial bread slicer and you get the idea.
As we were leaving, I asked the attendants if anyone has to stay overnight to guard the displays. «No, thank god!» was the unanimous response. This place would be creepy at night.
Good for:
1. Zombie freaks
2. Med students
3. Serial killers
Bad for:
1. Vegans (a lot of meat on display)
2. Those easily offended (or amused) by GENITALIA (see #1 above)
3. People who puke on carnival rides.
