My favorite thing about Gypsy is those frozen arnold palmer drinks. Recently when I was in here they didn’t have them, but usually they do. During the summer this is the perfect place to stop and have something cold and refreshing. The drinks here are cheap. The bartenders are great. I am usually pleasantly surprised by the live band playing. Plus they have a great patio out back. The location here is perfect for an eastside bar. So if you are in the area I would stop in here for a few drinks for sure! If you see the Arnold Palmer frozen drink machine — do that!

I like this lounge for what it’s worth. I actually just got back from this place(Friday night). They do live music band shows… in the last 2 – 3 hrs 3 bands played. The drinks are priced cheap and they have an outdoor patio where the live music occurs and a crowd usually gathers by 10 pm.

The owner and bar staff are incredible. I come here almost every Thursday night because my kickball league host our weekly post kickball shenanigans here. Gypsy lounge and its bartenders are always the most accommodating. The bar has a great indoor/outdoor area, its a solid venue with good sound to catch some live music. The drinks are quality and not to mention the bar is spotless in comparison to some of the others in the area. Its a must stop place on the east side if you’re looking for a chill place to grab a beer or delicious drink special. Heavily recommend!

I went here during a SXSW Unoffcial Interactive music show on a Friday night. The venue set up was good, and the band line-up was awesome, the drinks were cheap, but the lines were too long and the service was slow. I ordered a Gin and Tonic and they poured me Genius Gin which tasted really bad. As someone who enjoys Gin, this was a bad experience.

I’m in a weekly cornhole league(awww yeahhhh) and Gypsy Lounge is where we go to toss bag around. That sounded a little dirty. Anyway, I’m a fan of this place. It’s got a covered back patio, a small yet adequate draft beer selection, and very friendly bartenders. I’ve only been here on Tuesdays, so the crowd tends to be a little small. However, they do a comedy night every week and it’s a lot of fun to see some amateurs working the mic. Drinks are fairly inexpensive considering the better than Bud Light action going on. I’d be interested to see how my experience might change if I came in on a weekend. Regardless, I’m happy to patron this place for my weekly cornholing(don’t go saying that out loud).

Gypsy has a nice enclosed patio and reasonably priced drinks. The doorman was actually pretty nice, too! I was not a fan of the animé playing on the TV screens(but that’s not my thing, anyway.) Parking is scarce, but I hear the lot across the street takes credit cards, so that’s convenient. Also, Gypsy has purse hooks in the ladies’ room. That alone means I’m willing to go back.

Great place to catch a show in Austin, loved the drink specials and the service. Especially liked the local ruby red vodka drink.

Love this little east-side gem. The manager and bartender are two of the nicest and friendliest I’ve come across in Austin. They always make you feel welcome. Gypsy offers daily drink specials; beer + shot combos, unique/seasonal cocktails and shots and good prices in general. Live music during the week and weekend too!

Two-Hundred Ninety-nine Reviews on my Unilocal Profile Wall… Two-Hundred Ninety-nine Reviews… Take one down Pass it around This isn’t nearly as clever as I thought . Gypsy’s your quintessential East Austin dive bar. Smoke in the back. Live music inside. Limited seating. Lots of beards. There’s not much aesthetic character to the place in and of itself, however, there’s something very intimate about the stage setup — it’s not an elevated stage, just its own area in a little nook right in the corner of the bar. You feel very engaged with the band when they play. I loved everyone they featured during SXSW. When we do hit up East Side Austin bar scene, usually Gypsy is on the route with Violet Crown Social Club, Volstead, Grackle, and Brixton.

It’s a nice clean bar! Bartenders are very nice and there’s free parking too. They play weird movies and punk/Psychobilly from time to time. Great alternative from DT

I went to the Gypsy with a group of friends. It was empty but the overall vibe was nice. The issue was leaving. I went to the bar to close out my tab and the bartender seemed intent on ignoring me. He saw me step up to the bar, helped a few patrons that HAD been there before me and then flat out ignored me as I stood in front of the register while he helped a bunch of people that had NOT been there before me. Finally after about 5 minutes, as he talked to two girls who had clearly come to the bar after me, I spoke up. He asked me the issue and I told him«I’ve been standing here for 5 minutes waiting for you to close out my tab and I’d like to leave.» Admittedly I as frustrated and raised my voice. He got incredibly rude with me. Told me to «Check my f-ing attitude» and then proceeded to be very aggressive with running my card, slamming my check on the counter. I signed it, gave him a $ 1 tip he certainly didn’t deserve, left him a note to «Go f yourself» and as we walked out heard him tell other patrons«F that guy.» Incredibly rude behavior, incredibly unacceptable behavior when he was very clearly in the wrong. I would never go there again.

I came out to the Gypsy Lounge last night to listen to sheer khan and the space case play, it was an awesome show. They have a pirate song that is original and has the grimy one eyed pirate with a beautiful multi-colored parrot on his shoulder, minus the peg leg feel too it that I enjoyed the most. The Venue is small and comfortable, the back yard area is the hidden gem. Has its own bar, stage and I had my cards read by a really nice lady that was sitting at one of the tables. The bartender I was buying my drinks from was very attentive, fast and friendly. I really recommend this bar, I will be going back. Cheers!

I’ve been here a few times to listen to friends’ bands and its always a fun, laid back time. It’s a cool bar but I never feel like I’m not cool enough to be there which I attribute to the bar tenders being friendly, a rare quality on the East Side. Dot’s food truck is out back and I highly recommend Dot’s Tots! It’s a heaping bowl of dot shaped tater-tots covered with what I think is spicy tarter sauce and chives. It probably has a million calories but I didn’t think twice about finishing them off. As for the live music, venues in Austin book bands based on how many people they can bring in rather than how good their music is so you’re going to hear some good bands and some shitty bands that have a lot of Facebook friends. Luckily if you don’t like the band playing you can go inside or outside to escape.

It was 7pm on a Friday night, I was in workout clothes and I wanted to meet a friend at a place on the East side. She suggested Gypsy Lounge & since I had never been, I was down. We got there a bit after 7 and there wasn’t anybody there besides the band setting up for their show and a bartender so my boring self ordered a diet coke & my friend ordered a $ 2PBR. They were out of wine and orange slices for the Blue Moon(«out of wine» on a Friday night? weird) so we took our lame drinks and sat at a picnic table outside. Soon after, Dot(who owns Dot’s Spot — the trailer out back) showed up and we ordered some food. My fried egg cheese burger was juicy and full of flavor and those dot’s tots — ohhhhhh man. They’re these little rounds of tator tots with a big dollop of this spicy paprika mayonnaise mixed with cilantro and green onions. I’m not exactly too sure what it was but I wanted more of it! A couple hours later, we left and the band was playing an odd mix of blues, jazz and rock that didn’t seem to go together, almost like someone wearing crocs & socks. Only reason I’d go back would be for the yummy food trailer in the back and to sit & catch up with a friend in a suuuuuper casual outdoor area.

Mrs. Vanushka walked in, and the place took on a whole new dynamic. It was classy for a bit of time :-) Unilocalerista Leila M was very sweet to invite us to the Gypsy for International Women’s Day on March 8th. If I were reviewing IWD and Leila, I’d give her 5 stars, a check-in, and a groupon. She was a true joy to meet, and hope we see her again. Charming and fun :-) Initially we were greeted by Yelena at the door. A LOVELY woman who was racing around the bar delivering food and making sure everyone was having fun. A gracious hostess indeed, but I think she was there only for IWD. She was handing out Roses to all the ladies and we could tell she’s a gem! Hope to see her and Leila again sometime :-) The Gypsy is pleasant to look at… Sultry red walls… couches…, has a well-placed, yet smallish stage for bands, and drinks were pretty easy to get considering the size of the crowd. There’s the obligatory gravel patio out back, which is huge in comparison to the bar. Oh…Hula Hoops are hanging on the patio wall, but sadly, no one was hooping. Champagne was 3 bucks a flute, and my naked double-shot of Reposado was 11 bucks. LMAO. IWD is a big deal in Russia, but not so much here at the Gypsy. The last thing we expected was a Meat Market on IWD, but that’s what ATX6th street is offering these days. Meh… The Gypsy is no different in this regard. Ehh…Lots of sleazy, 30-something bar-guys involved in that man-pack-mentality-thing bar-guys do when they are out for a score… LOL SO…we made the best of it… Had a couple of dances(Us and ONE other brave couple) Our attempts at schmoozing were inhibited by too-coolness on the part of the singles, although, truly… sadly…we ARE oldies and married LOL. Woohoo… Happy International Women’s Day Ladies! Here’s to you all! LOL

I just walked into Aladdin’s cabana and need a gypsy flavored cocktail. While I was expecting to hear«An Arabian Night,» or possibly get pick-pocketed, I incidentally found a dirty 6th bar in camouflage on hipster 6th. I’ve been fascinated by this bar ever since I can remember seeing it transfomred from discoteca to a loungey looking gypsy paradise. What I found here was horrible boom boom music by a horrible DJ. And the patrons? Really not my crowd. The inside was overflowing with slimy looking people, so immediately when we walked in I wanted to walk right back out. But no, we were in and we were going to experience this strange gypsy lounge. The inside décor was red, dark and downright sexy. Exactly what I pictured a gypsy themed bar to be. There was only one bartender at the time we were attempting to order drinks, so this took awhile. The outside patio is pretty and gypsy-like with plenty of seating, but the loud horrible beats were being blared out back to the patio. We sat as far away from the door as possible and still had a hard time conversing. Maybe people don’t intend on conversing at this place. I saw many lip-locking pairs here and for a second I thought I was at a sleezy bar on dirty 6th. A woman who was seriously dressed like a gypsy found a hula hoop and proceeded in doing a seductive hooping dance for her apparent date. She did a good job of putting him into a trance with her gypsy like movements, while her fake boobies attached to her neck never moved. «An exotic mix of music, mystery, sensuality and tradition?» Gypsy Lounge, I’m not entirely sure what you are. I think I’ll continue to walk right on by next time I’m on this side of town.

Walking down East 6th, my friends and I hear jangling from across the street. Even though the lighting in this neighborhood is lacking, we see a great deal of shininess when we look over to see where the noise is coming from: a woman striding with a scarf studded with little coins and bells. One of my friends says, «She’s going to the gypsy bar!» Two blocks later, there it is: The Gypsy Lounge. The theme is hokey. Sultry red everywhere, richly colored fabric draped sparsely around the place, a jukebox with a computer screen and glowing obnoxiously, and to top it off small and therefore crowded bar with bartenders who look past you even when they are talking to you, Gypsy Lounge’s inside is disappointing. The outside out back is long and fairly well-maintained but just like every other bar on East 6th. The crowd, on the other hand, is not. The crowd seemed disoriented and old, though oddly eclectic, and they gave off such a smarmy vibe that my skin crawled, even when we sat at the way far back of the backyard which was as far away as we could get. My decision for liking a bar comes from three major qualities: the bartenders, the patrons, and the music. Two out of three already disappointed. That night, a DJ was playing much too loud music that was much to 90s mainstream.

I’ve wanted to check out more east side bars and so when an ever fun pub crawl was announced JUST covering east side joints I was super excited. I have commitment issues so just committing to a bar for 30 minutes is as exciting to me as sampler appetizers and wine tastings. Gypsy was dark, it smelled of incense and candles and the dj was playing a beat that seemed to draw you in like some sort of snake charmer. They had cheap prices, shuffleboard, plenty of places to sit and friendly patrons. The bartenders were very cool and quick. The dj was really good and we enjoyed the music, which was amazing since we had music lovers of all kinds with us. We had such a good vibe at this place that we even decided to go for round 2 at the end of the night. Very impressed, and excited that I’ve found a new cool place.

The word Gypsy evokes a specific mental imagery — a mysterious lady, dark swirling hair, bright colors and bangles and caravans and a certain amount of intuition. This place is not really that at all — it’s open and friendly and there’s not a caravan in sight — but I still totally dig the name and the fact that they have full moon parties. The inside has ambient lighting and shuffleboard, high tables and a corner with comfy stuff. The outside is much like liberty bar with the big picnic tables and a gravel yard but without the huge crowds. We were there on a Friday night and it was sparsely populated, probably bc people dont know that it exists yet. The bathrooms were the cleanest bathrooms I’ve ever see in an east side bar. And I know that’s not saying much but they were actually very nice. The drinks were cheap, there are two adorable kitties that chase each other in the back area and you can bring your own food. In the coming months, they’re going to have a rotating frozen boozie slush. And considering my love of booze and all things slushy, this is sure to go in the rotation!

When my grrl told me this place had opened recently and I looked and saw that no one had reviewed it yet, I just knew I had to do some reconnoitering. However, we did our reconnoitering after the Unilocal party and with oh, five or six(admittedly weak) vodka tonics in me, my scouting may be a bit sketchy. We were feeling pretty good on our way here. We had to pass two Latino bars on the way, one of which was blaring loud conjunto music. Me and my grrl couldn’t help dancing down the street. I’m sure we all made an odd sight, my mafia lookin hubby, my flapper grrl and me in dapper drag. The nice older door gent at one of the hoppin Mexicano clubs practically begged us to come in where«the beer is flowing great», but we had eyes only for the Gypsy… which, unfortunately, was dead. The Gypsy looks like most E 6th bars. Sparse furnishings with a few high top tables, concrete floors and digital juke, a back door leading out to the now typical gravel lined patio where the handful of smokers huddled at their picnic tables. Lone Star tall boys were $ 2 and my(considerably stronger) vodka tonic was $ 5. It’s basically just a room to drink in. What makes this place stand out tho is the super friendly staff and the free shuffleboard table. It having just opened, the patronage was sparse but the folks that were there all seemed to know the barstaff and it was homey and comfortable. And I rocked the shuffleboard. I went all shuffleboard shark on they ass, «pretending» to suck at first and then beating them both in the end. We enjoyed the hour we spent here, but I have to admit, if it wasn’t already mignight and I didn’t have to get up at 5 a.m., I would have been more tempted to swing by the more lively conjunto bars. As it is, I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the car headrest.
