Food was okay, nothing to write about, the chicken roll tacos were very good and the plantains.

Well well well, what do we have here?! I’ll tell you! SOMEBOMBASSCHICKEN! So they’ve got it going on when it comes to chicken. I will NEVER be back to el regio knowing what I know now. The chicken is so moist, smoky, and well seasoned. It’s got to be marinated in some sort of secret chicken stuff. The tortillas taste and look homemade! The rice was perfectly cooked and the beans are phenomenal, packed with flavor from what looked like chorizo and jalapenos. It wasn’t spicy though, just flavorful. I also got a carne asada plate and I tell you they nailed it. Juicy strips of marinated steak with their super hot Pico and a squirt of lime all tucked in one of those tortillas… HEAVEN

I am writing a review based on our last experience here. Last year we came and ordered some beef and a whole chicken but they mistakenly gave us 2 whole chicken so it was a really good meal feeding all 7 of us. But this time their 1 whole chicken was tiny and maybe that’s how it was supposed to be and wasn’t enough at all. For take-outs they aren’t very generous with the sauces which we would need more off to really enjoy a whole pound of beef and a whole chicken. So they seem to be skimping on those. There is lime and 2 whole small onions but I really do miss El Pollo Locos generous pickled sides that really makes up the meal. Once you wrap them up in their fajita, its really good. Here its just ok. NOthing to make the wrap because of little sauces and onions. IT is tasty, I won’t lie but not as tasty as El Pollo Loco and definitely not as good as this other place I reviewed when we went to AZ-that was the best. So maybe because we had such great experiences we expect more here. Our friends raved about it here so that’s why we tried it out not once but twice. But again, its just ok especially for the price of a whole chicken-you would think they give you more. The rice is good and you do get 2 large tubs but still. wish there’s more sauces and sides and this locations is scarey at night. I am sure its safe but both times we took it to go because of the shadyness of the area lol. Anyways, will keep searching in town for some better grub than this. Also service is always a bit gruff. Not rude but not too nice. I dont’ know maybe we don’t look like locals but still if the food was worth it we can overlook this :/

Whole chicken dinner. Large sides of rice and beans. 3 whole grilled onions, lime, corn tortillas. About $ 16. Chicken was perfect… and they cut it up for you wrapped in butcher paper. Had plenty left over the next day to make chicken and rice. Beans were the best we have ever had! We also took home a HUGE slice of chocolate tres leches cake and a ½ horchata ½ pineapple drink. Yum! I would stop in again just for another drink. I could forgive a sub-par cake at a joint like this… But no forgiveness needed. It was moist and delicious. Service was fast and friendly on a Friday at 6:00pm. This place is right around the corner from my house, why is this the first time I’ve eaten here in 3 years? Definitely recommend.

Me and my family never get tired of Pollo Rico, and we can never get enough of their salsa Verde! That shit burns but nothing compliments pollo al carbon and corn tortilla better than that green sauce. The only thing that genuinely pisses me off is that the girls at the registers TIPTHEMSELVES. Not just once but on numerous occasions. The only thing that keeps bringing me back is the food.

Love this place! Didn’t know what to really expect when i first visited, but when I took the first bite into my chicken… I loved it instantly! So juicy and seasoned so right. The rice complemented it well and so did the salsas! It was a good surprise and I’m definitely going back!/

They’ve overhauled the menu with some pretty significant price increases but it’s sooooooo good. I’ll pay.

I have eaten at a few el pollo Rico’s several times. I absolutely love authentic Mexican food. I am not talking about the horrible stuff called Tex-Mex. I am talking about the made from scratch, non-apologetic the hot sauce is too hot Mexican food. El Pollo Rico comes close to this. The food has great flavor and makes you feel good. Chicken, carne Asada and tacos are all good. The biggest selling issue is the sides. Any place that will throw half a grilled onion and a grilled jalapeño on your plate must be good! The biggest drawbacks is the ambience and the quality is not the same across locations.

There is nothing healthy about El Pollo Rico so don’t come here if you’re on a diet, but do come here if you want to eat some delicious, quick Mexican food that is extra tasty. I had the baked potato slathered in butter and cheese and topped with steak. Super, super good and filling. .. that’s really all I can say! My husband had the chicken and was impressed with how flavorful it was. He also liked the salsa and toppings bar, which always puts a place on the map in his eyes. The food came out quickly, the dining room was freshly cleaned and the staff was nice and friendly. Check this place out for quick eats on your lunch hour or any time you want good food in a hurry.

This restaurant chain is off the hook! The hype is real people! If you want some great authenic Mexican food or Tex Mex which ever you prefer to call it, this is the place to eat! I’ve tried the one off Ol’ Torf during my lunch break. I had to take my family to this place after church. My fiancé loved the food as well and so did our children. The one off Lamar is very spaceous and clean.

This place is awesome. The whole chicken is my Sunday dinner period. I have tried their tacos and they are pretty good too. Stick to the chicken, the rice and beans and a pineapple aqua fresca and you are made in the shade.

I love the carne asada, but lately have had some misses with my order. Sometimes the meat is to gristly or just overcooked, and other times it is perfect. I do like eating in since I can enjoy as much green salsa as I desire, but I have noticed that they do skimp on portions when eating in as opposed to getting an order of carne asada to go. Eating in does get you chips to go with the salsa though!

There were not many places in Austin that California didn’t have except for El Pollo«LOCO». So in my search for something comparable, I was told about El Pollo Rico. Anxious to finally find a copy cat, only to find out it is really not at all the same. However, this is not a bad thing. I found out that their Carne Asada is out of this world! The atmosphere is very dismal but definitely a must for the Carne Asada.

Following the recommendations on Unilocaler comments, we got the whole charcoal roasted chicken, with the sides. The chicken was juicy with great flavor, the value was awesome(the entire meal for 2 plus leftovers for $ 13), and it was a drive-through! It was a good menu choice for a drive-through too, as it was really quick to pack up and we weren’t waiting long, but the food was piping hot and did not seem dry(so, I don’t think it was just pre-packed and sitting there forever). We’ll be back!

After moving north from 78704, we were sad to leave the El Pollo Rico trailer behind, but then found this location was so close to our new home! We love the chicken with extra rice, extra green sauce, and guacamole. Delicious, cheap, and fast.

After being a regular at El Pollo Rico on Riverside I was incredibly excited to find out there was an El Pollo Rico a few miles from where I purchased my house. I no longer work off of Riverside and don’t get to acquire my «charcoal chicken» fix as often as I’d like. I’m happy to say El Pollo Rico on Lamar is just as satisfying as the one off of Riverside. I always order a whole chicken with all the fixings. The chicken was super moist despite everything being cooked & just tossed in a bag when you order. I absolutely LOVE the beans and the rice is super tasty for just run of the mill«mexican food rice.» The salsas were spot on and the obligatory lime & whole onion were present. The lady at the counter was very friendly & the service was super fast as always. I can now breathe a sigh of relief that I have found a place to get my chicken without the 30 minute drive down the highway to hell known as IH-35.

The place is called El Pollo Rico, but have other items on the menu. I will never ever get to try them out, because the chicken is SO good! The Salsa Verde is killer, not too hot, and when drizzled with lime, the chicken is out of this world. I try to go once a week. Don’t forget the Mexican Coke — Real sugar! A note to remember — some of the staff is Spanish speaking only. Don’t let that hinder you! D

I love tasty bone-in chicken and good deals. This place provides a lovely marriage of both. The #2 meal is half a deliciously seasoned chicken, a side of rice, a side of beans w/bacon, and corn(or flour) tortillas for under $ 7. I’ve been here twice now with people I work with and we’ve all been impressed with the food both times. I’d describe the ambiance as in between a hole-in-the-wall and an unfinished restaurant renovation. But the chicken… oh that wonderful chicken… will draw you in.

OK… I first discovered this«magic» chicken while living in 78745, off Stassney area. I recently moved up north to 78753 and discovered there are more of these sacred temples! Pollo… Rico? Regio? Who cares!!! I cant tell the difference but they are both magnificent. Every time I leave that stand with my roasted bird I feel as though I am a fat kid in heaven who has just been granted an eternity of Krispy Kreme donuts. Yes… it IS that good!

I work nearby. Some of my fellow teachers and I commiserate here after especially grueling days. We call it «the chicken place.» It’s our secret restaurant to escape! My friend from Monterrey deems it authentic stuff. It’s simple food, meat plates with beans and rice, Mexican Coke and Jarritos. I’m vegetarian and was nervous the first time that my quesadillas might make me sick, but didn’t. Hooray for the chicken place!
