Home of some of the best Chinese food in ATX. However the service is sloppy. The waiter threw the menus on the table and didn’t greet us or even make eye contact. Orders yelled from the kitchen could be heard outside. Overall the waiters were inattentive but the food made up for the poor service.

Amazing food!!! Well worth the drive. We drove up from Rockport to see our daughter. The Lobster Fried Rice was to die for. Service was excellent!!!

Always a decent Chinese fix. My favorites are the crispy pork buns, crispy fried pork chops, cheese fried shrimp, and crab aspargus soup. Eggrolls are pretty decent as well. Reasonably priced. The menu is quite extensive, they have everything from hot pot to roast duck, lo mein, chinese BBQ, just about any type of Chinese dish you can think of. Portions are large, it’s family style. I recommend going with a group and trying a little bit of everything BUT don’t expect good service. We usually order to-go to avoid this. They also automatically add gratuity to your bill, which is probably why service is lacking — they get a good tip no matter what, so they make little to no effort. But, the food is generally good, well priced, and well portioned– just get it take-out(it’s faster this way too).

All of the stars in this review are for the food! We live in BBQ heaven in the Austin area and sometimes it’s easy to forget that Chinese BBQ even exists. But if you’ve never had it before, you need to try the BBQ at Din Ho for a completely different take on BBQ. As the name of the place says, BBQ is obviously the thing on the menu that you need to try. The combination plate with pork, chicken and duck is a great option for variety(the chicken is amazing). The pan fried noodles are also very tasty and different from anything I’ve had – frying the noodles gives it an appetizing crispiness. The portions are very generous and easily shared family-style, so I recommend going with a group to maximize the number of different dishes you can try! All of the stars are for the food as I said, because quite frankly the service is very lacking in frills and in friendliness. Not necessarily a place you’ll be going to enjoy a slow relaxing meal, but the food is VERY solid and offers some different options from your standard Chinese fare. I’ll be back!

I went with my husband and my father-in-law for a very busy weekend lunch. The place was packed, their wait list was writing your own name down and number in your party and a waitress would walk by, call out a name, and show the next group up to their table. We were seated pretty quickly at a large table. Our waitress reminded me of the soup nazi on Seinfeld: unemotional, kind of rude, seemed to be in a rush, displeased with how long it took us to order. We ordered several different dishes, including the mixed bbq plate(both duck and pork bbq), mapo tofu, eggplant with shredded pork and garlic sauce, and snow pea leaves. The eggplant and pork was my favorite dish by far! That dish alone made me forgive the rudeness of the waitress and the disgusting-ness of the mapo tofu. The bbq was ok, pretty standard for any of the other Chinese BBQs in Austin. I’d go back a million times to eat the eggplant and pork dish, though.

We only ordered eggrolls and Singapore noodles, both were delicious. I only gave it 4 stars because we asked for tofu in our dish and no meat and when we got it there was no tofu or meat. The waiters are not that attentive so it was more work to have it redone. Would definitely go back though as the food tasted great.

Din Ho is some of the best Chinese food you can find inside the Austin city limits. It’s quite close to the flavors I used to get when I lived overseas. The highlights here are definitely the roast dock you can see hanging when you enter and the Chinese BBQ pork. Pro tip: order steam buns to eat with the half duck half pork plate. My crew’s fan favorites include — Roast duck — BBQ pork — BBQ pork fried rice — Singapore Noodles — Sizzling beef — Flat noodles with beef — Snow pea leaves — Whole crispy fish I’d say that almost everything there should be a winner though. You can’t choose wrong.

Din Ho has the best Chinese food in town. We always get their 4 person special, however having eaten here for over 10 years, I’ve observed their prices rise, their portions lower, and their service quality decrease. Their steamed fish is really good, along with their duck and crispy pork chops. If you go for lunch, they have really good flat noodles and crispy noodles. It sucks that service quality has been decreasing, but I’ll continue to sat here because the food is truly the best around.

While the food here is amazing, I knocked a star because of a decline in the quality of service. The restaurant is thriving, but the waiters and waitresses during rush hours have too many tables to cater to and aren’t able to satisfactorily take care of each of the customers. Furthermore, I have noticed a reduction in portion sizes compared to the restaurant’s portion sizes in the past. However, even with sub par customer service, the food is still some of the best Cantonese styled food you can find in Austin. I would recommend the hot pot fish with plum sauce and the pork chop with special salt. These are great foods to share with a group and my entire family thoroughly enjoyed these savory items. The BBQ pork and roast duck are also classic dishes that are worth getting. If you are unsure on what to get, the waiters and waitresses are very knowledgeable about the items on the menu and I’ve found them particularly helpful when they are available(which isn’t often). Overall, the food is what will keep me coming back, not the service.

I’m honestly not the biggest fan of Chinese food, so I only dine at Chinese restaurants like this with big groups for special occasions. Chinese family-style restaurants like these are perfect for such events because of the good prices that will feed people until they are miserably full. We ordered so many dishes that kept coming and coming, but because you want to try every dish, you force yourself to eat more! Service is good, nothing special. Cleanliness of the restaurant isn’t too great, but it’s a pretty authentic Chinese restaurant– so this is what I expected. I do like how the roasted meat was at the front, roasting for all to see. Some highlights: Peking duck, especially with the buns, was delicious. We also had bbq pork with the buns– which was very tasty too. Shrimp fried rice was as expected, but good. Honey walnut shrimp is always a favorite, but usually too saucy– this one wasn’t too bad! Fried shrimp was pretty yummy also. I liked the honey walnut shrimp better though. The beef with vegetables was average, a little too many vegetables soaked in sauce though, so the ratio of meat to veggies wasn’t that great. The oysters were very big and not many came with the dish, so I suggest not ordering them for large groups. Still tasty though so not a bad choice. The large whole fish was probably my favorite dish. Very crispy and flavorful– a crowd favorite. Overall, come here with an empty stomach because these heavy dishes are filling! Don’t fill up on the soup or rice either– enjoy the meats and veggies.

Yay I finally found a decent Chinese restaurant in Austin!(I was a bit scared after eating Han Q, which was rated 4 stars abs Suzis, which was good but mediocre). I should’ve taken pics but I was too excited to eat(I’ll add next time). Pork noodle wonton soup was great. Wontons nice and full. Bbq pork on spot. And comes with ramen, unlike most wonton soups, so makes for a very filling meal, almost like eating phở. We also had bbq pork w rice which was good, some combo Lo mein and egg rolls. They weren’t ny style egg rolls, but still good. This would be a 4 star on east coast but I’m soapy I found decent Chinese here so it’s a 5 for me :) Oh, and girl in phone/front is so sweet. And they are giving out free Chinese year calendars right now. Only downfall — no delivery :/

I love din ho. Really, I do. Their food is delicious and they give you such ginormous portions it’s fabulous. Their service for takeout is also crazy fast. However, recently when I came in to pick up my takeout order, the man working in the BBQ area just to the left hand side of the register was handling the meats without any gloves. Now that can maybe be okay, but then he went out and dropped the carved meats off at a table and just came right back to carving without washing his hands or anything. That’s not sanitary. I mean dude I get that washing hands is annoying and all that but this is a public place of business crawling with germies. As someone who is a professional in the food business, this is very disturbing. Handling ready to eat food with unwashed or unprotected hands is a very clear contamination risk. Just no.

My expectations were raised really high due to Unilocal reviews, so I am disappointed that it wasn’t better than I discovered today. Lots of Chinese diners here was a good sign. This is pretty typical Chinese good. A la carte. Ordered beef broccoli, Kung pao beef, pork fried rice, egg rolls, and egg drop soup. For two diners way too know much food. Easily enough food for 4 diners. The beef didn’t taste seasoned, it tasted more fleshy than I like. Also, the ginger in both entrees was poorly distributed and kind of burned my nostrils when I ate. Egg drop soup was good, very huge bowl for $ 5.50 with enough to for several small bowls. But they don’t have the crispies I like to put in the soup. And the soup didn’t have green onions like I prefer. Overall, would come back but not out of my way.

I came here for lunch twice this week because of the great food and service! Their shrimp won ton soup was one of the best I’ve ever tasted(I live in Los Angeles and am always on a quest to find the best won ton soup). Although the won ton soup is plain except for some scallions(no veggies or meat), the broth is tasty and the won tons were the right size and texture. Dip some in the chili paste and I’m in heaven! I also ordered their roast duck, marinated chicken and BBQ pork. It was all delicious with meaty pieces of duck and chicken(on the bone). The marinade flavor was very authentic Chinese. We also tried their sweet and sour shrimp and house special chicken(cut up pieces of chicken on the bone covered with a warm ginger and scallion sauce). Both dishes were well prepared and delicious! You’ll be served steam rice with the meal. The service was friendly and efficient which is rare for a Chinese restaurant. Even though they were pretty busy on one of the days I came for lunch, the servers were attentive and refilled our iced tea without being asked. I wish there was a Din Ho in Los Angeles!

My go to place for Chinese food in Austin! My friend, who is the sweetest person on earth, becomes super greedy when it comes to their shrimp fried rice… that’s how good it is! It’s not super greasy like you’ll find at other places around town and is just plain delicious! Any of their sautéed vegges are good, along with their Singapore Noodles, Walnut Shrimp and eggplant pork dish. Don’t expect American-quality service here. I’ve been to places with much ruder service and though the people here are nice, you need to expect them to just bring you your food and drinks and that’s it. If you can deal with that, you’re good to go!

I just love how authentic this place is, even the menu is bilingual! I love how they have their ducks hanging from behind a glass window, along with roasted pig, and intestines swimming in some kind of brine! You know the seafood is fresh, order the lobster, crab, or sea cucumber, and they get it from the huge aquarium in the back. This place is nothing like El Paso, non-authentic Chinese food! As always the roast duck is delicious, I got the Roast Duck, Wonton Noodle Soup. It was the perfect size and the wontons are ball shaped, stuffed with shrimp and other things. I didn’t get full, so I ordered the Kung Pao Squid, also yummy! You will also love the shrimp fried rice, duck meat fried rice, and quail, these are some of the things I have ordered in the past. Come during the day, as evenings are very packed, and service slow!

The food here is so delicious. The menu is quite extensive with tons of great options. The prices are good, the portions are perfect. The service is kinda crazy and hit or miss but the food overrides all of that. They have plenty of parking– A few import beers– Lobster! Yummy

I wanted Chinese BBQ so bad and Din Ho really hit the spot. It wasn’t fancy and that’s how I wanted it to be. Plus it was only 5 minutes away from me. The restaurant was very busy and it took about a few a minutes to seat us. The menu offered a variety of chinese dishes, but I only had a craving for the BBQ. We got the variety plate that came with duck, pork, and chicken. The BBQ were seasoned well and the sauce was a good compliment to the jasmine rice. You can’t get any simpler than just meat and rice. It was comfort food for me! I miss my hometown of Houston and this just made me less sad to be away from my family. We also ordered the stir fry veggie chow fun noodles and it was a little bland. I had to make my own concoction of soy chili sauce to kick up the flavor. The servings are big so took the rest home. The service was quick and the food came out reasonably fast. I am sure to go back.

Who doesn’t like duck, hanging by their neck, glazed with BBQ sauce, behind glass when you enter a Chinese BBQ restaurant? I love it. And that’s how you are greeted here upon entry. Sesame chicken stole the show. Great meal. Shrimp lomein was ok. I should have had the duck. Ha! The bowl of rice for the table was a nice touch. I’m ordering the duck next time. But for now, I’ll leave you with three pics of our meal. I’ll be back.
