One of favorite Sushi places period! Great sushi without bleeding your wallet dry. I recommend the Mike Roll when you go. I love the authentic style seating at this location too. I’ll keep coming back for sure.

DK is actually one of my favorite hidden secrets. It’s a low key Austin original, traditional style sushi restaurant with great food and always friendly service. Although the south location doesn’t look like much from the road– the Quality is great and the price is right. Definitely worth a try if you haven’t! And at some point– you have to journey to the north location for Monday karaōke and sake bombs!

I was really hoping for this place to be good as I live so close that I can walk here. The ambiance is interesting. The korean options are diverse, and the service is friendly. Unfortunately, the service is also painfully slow around the busier times. The sushi rolls are very small and not that tasty. Bottom line… I really wanted this place to be good. I don’t really understand all the great reviews This place is ok. It’s not terrible, but it’s not really great either. There are other places around S. Austin that are a better sushi option if that is what you are going for.

Perhaps one of the best meals I’ve had. The freshest fish since I can remember. Prices are considerable lower than their competition. And of course, great service. Will come here exclusively.

An amazing sushi experience with a dichotomy of service. After having a ridiculous sushi craving, and researching good, local spots, I decided to give D K a try. Here’s how it went: The Venue– It feels so wonderfully homestyle when you walk into a restaurant and are greeted by a big«Hello!» from the sushi chefs from behind the bar. They have seating for all dining styles, from the most traditional floor seating to contemporary tables, chairs and booths. In addition, the décor is immersive without seeming excessive or cluttered. The atmosphere really makes you want to hang out there all day drinking sake and ordering more food until they decide to kick you out. The Service– There were 2 servers and 2 chefs working when I ate at D K, which should have been more than enough to cover the size /seating allowance. Luckily, my fiancé and I were waited on by a gentleman who was informative and pleasant. The female server that was there at the time had a much less pleasant demeanor. She seemed short with her customers and inattentive overall. I got the impression that her customers were having a much different experience from myself. Whether she was just having a bad day or what, she works in the service industry and should remember not to bring that into her tip-based job. She seemed out of place with how much work and energy was put into the restaurant. The Food– We started with a medium sake, which was served hot and delicious. Then proceeded to order several sushi rolls. Sure the prices are a little higher here, but once you see the sashimi quality, it becomes very very clear why. Everything we got was super-fresh, scrumptious and looked beautiful. The only thing I found to ping them on was that the rolls were a little loose and a little too heavy on the rice-to-filling ratios. Again though, the top-notch ingredients make it a place I will return to and hope for the best! Something else that should be considered: These guys offer some Korean staples as well,(Bul go gi and Bip bim bap caught my eye) which I didn’t try this time but will be returning for soon! Overall– I had a wonderful experience at D K Sushi and I will be returning. Setting was inviting, service was good, and the food was something to write home(or Unilocal) about. It’s a wonderful slice of Japan replete with a dash of Austin. I feel like with a few subtle tweaks, these guys will soon be much too popular for this little spot on SoFi! Good luck guys!

Fresh sushi, albeit smaller rolls(6 pieces each), the price is right: I can get 3 rolls under $ 30 incl tax and tip! Great for takeout, but the dining experience looks great too!

We’ve searched high and low for a good sushi restaurant at a fair price and this is a pure gem. Delicious sushi, really good Korean food, tasty tempura, all in a sweet and intimate interior. We’ve been back multiple times and will continue to go!

By far one of my favorite restaurants in Austin! Solid Asian food is hard to come by in Austin in my opinion and I don’t think Austinites, the ones who rate on Unilocal anyway, understand what good Asian food, but I’m here to tell you that finally I’ve found a really good Asian establishment. The sushi is delicious and the Korean food(Bip Bim Bap and Kimbap) was so good for a second I thought I was back in Washington state(if you’re from there then you get my drift). I can’t wait to go back and try some of their other rolls. Service was excellent even though it was crazy packed. Happy Dining!

I recently reminded myself just how much of a DK fan I am! I think for the price and quality they are a front runner for sushi in Austin without breaking the bank. I love the sashimi cuts and the variety of rolls they offer. Recently I have been into the fatty salmon… Delicious. My friend and I shared the volcano roll and it was great too. It was warm, creamy and filling! The service is good. I know I will find myself here again very soon! It’s in the neighborhood and a perfect dinner spot!

Hit the south 1st spot on a Thursday evening. Cozy atmosphere, unique and tasty rolls, and plenty of ice water on hand to cool those wasabi assaults on my taste buds.

Loved their Kimchi! Spicy and satisfying. Also got the chicken bulgogi which tasted delicious and had me reminiscing about my time in Korea. Our waitress was sooooo sweet and made us feel welcome right away. Sadly there was no soju or cass but I’ll definitely be going back!

The sushi chefs are white. Let’s just get that out of the way… and it was amazing. My friend and I went on karaōke night with no reservation, yet a lovely couple let us crash their four-top table. The vibe was very intimate, like we were all in this together. Mr. DK himself was the best part. He was so friendly, so generous, offering sake bombs to whoever braved the stage. My only complaint was their computer system was down, so every song I wanted to sing was unavailable. Yet, it was the most peculiar and fantastic experience, like I could cross it off my bucket list of bizarre things I’ve done. In the end, I walked out with yummy sushi in my belly and«I wanna know what love is» in my head.

Love this place. Pro: Sushi and teriyaki dishes are fabulous. Cons: gets crowded quickly and the wait for sushi can be long. Still, it’s my go-to South Austin sushi place. Don’t be fooled by the ugly exterior!

I just love octopus on everything. So I made some tweeks to their cow boy roll, i believe it was named. I thought it was effin superb. The tunas were cooked to perfection and the eel sauce was a smart finish. Plus their waiter dude was haha I’m definitely going to try their sonumono but with octopus.

My wife and I come here for lunch and have not been let down. They serve sashimi/sushi and the lunch special is hard to beat — at least anywhere near our office in S. Austin(unless we have not looked hard enough). The bulgogi options are really good and the chicken teriyaki is so tasty. In addition, the scallop roll was out of this world. It had a little spice to it, but it was fresh and it melted in my mouth. Really enjoy the relaxed vibe and great service. We have not been here at any other time of the day, but do recommend lunch time.

Server on the floor was absolutely horrible. She gave us our menus, and then had no interaction with us for the rest of the meal. Luckily for her, the owners’ son came in and helped her out by 1. Taking our order, 2. Getting our drinks, 3. Asking us how everything was going, and 4. Refilling. So the question is, what did the server actually do? Nothing. We were told that any tips on the floor were the servers, and she literally did nothing and her tip reflected that. My girlfriend and I were both servers, and that was actually garbage service. Came in on Wednesday around 1:30pm. Probably won’t be back. Food is bomb except the miso soup was a little too salty for me.

DK gets 5 solid stars. I have been coming here religiously for over 4 years after a fish snob friend of mine from the Pacific NW turned me on to it. Don’t let the low key strip mall setting, quirk low budget interior, or some of these confused people’s low reviews here fool you… they have EXCELLENT fish! Now… don’t get me wrong… if you are looking for someplace fancy with warm towels and a bunch of gimmick rolls filled with sub-par /small /over priced fish hiding behind avocados… this is not the place for you. I am sure that is what a lot of the lower reviews here were looking for. Sorry no «Armadillo Rolls» here…(Side note If you want to know what real sushi is all about I recommend you watching the movie ” Jiro Dreams of Sushi”) The fish here is outright superior and comes in larger cuts versus every other sushi bar I have attended here in Austin. And for that the sushi here is a bargain.(People on a budget… Sushi is top grade fish and as such, expensive… this will never be a $ 20 meal, get over it or go back to your deep fried Catfish) On top of the fish quality, the staff is very mom and pop friendly and if you come more than a few times they will remember you and what you like. My favorite here is anything nigiri style, where the quality of the fish and the subtle art of the sushi chef is front and center. Have been here easily over 50 times and have never been disappointed. The worst part of the meal here is coming to the end and there is no more sushi left to eat until next time:(

I read a review below that said they would give 3.5 stars if they could and i agree. Basically if you live in south austin and you want a quick lunch or dinner, nothing fancy but are craving Korean or sushi then this place is alright. The sushi was surprisingly fresh and the Korean bibimbap was good enough. The draw backs are that the prices are comparable to a nice sushi date spot in a desirable trendy location and this place is not that at all. It’s more like some random hole in the wall place in a strip center next to a tattoo shop where you would stop by on your lunch break if you happened to work around the corner which you probably do not. I went alone for lunch and had two pieces of sushi and some bibimbap and ice tea and the bill was $ 25 somehow. So it’s tasty but not a nice place for a date and def not worth the $$$

Delicious! Tried the volcano roll, dragon roll and Mexican roll with the boyfriend and drank the $ 3.75 Chardonnay. The food was kinda slow coming out, but the server was super sweet and very attentive. It made for a great date night! We will definitely be back soon.

I’ve heard really great things about this place when I lived in Austin. Came here two Saturday’s ago when I was in town for SXSW. This place has pretty good fish! My friends and I ordered the sashimi plate and I thought the pieces were thick and melted in your mouth with each bite. My favorite was probably the escolar, tuna, and the salmon. I really liked the texture of the escolar. For an appetizer I ordered the squid salad which tasted really good if you add a little bit of siracha. Lastly, I got the roll that had the jalapenos in it and it was okay. I think it was a weird combination of flavors. I think the sushi here is a bit expense for the quality of fish you’re getting, but it was still good

Cute little neighborhood restaurant. Kind of small but the food is delicious. Has a mix of Japanese and Korean food. It’s really easy yet hard to miss due to its location. But once you find it, it’s like finding a treasure.

Ok, to be fair, I’d like to offer 3.5 stars, but they just won’t let me. First, let’s talk price. DK has cleverly tricked South Austin into believing the prices are good here. But, consider. Musashino serves Maguro sushi for $ 3 a piece. DK asks $ 4.75 for 2 pieces. No brainer? — wait! Not only is Musashino serving up fresher fish, in a much more elegant setting, but they’re giving you at least 35% bigger sushi pieces. No, I didn’t take a scale, but I’m smart enough to use my eyes and tummy. And, this theme played out with traditional rolls as well. Oddly, there is not a price difference on specialty rolls. They may be of compatible size, but I didn’t order one. It took two gals $ 125(with tip, tax) to fill up. 4 glasses of well priced wine($ 6 each) in that total. Two gals can easily fill up at Musashino for $ 110. So, in my mind, DK is actually more spendy Cons: Lower quality. No warm towels(I love that). Small alcohol selection. Not a great environment Pros: it’s close to home. Apparently disco night is a must do, «show». Frankly, given the obviously cheap rent, I’d expect better prices. I forgive you for less freshness than Musashino, as they churn tables at an incredible pace, but I resent your profit margin!

Great food! Server was a little awkward. Japanese Salad, Ebi, and Masago… are the best! Great place to avoid downtown, wear your pajamas, and eat sushi!
