Chuy’s

This is probably the best restaurant in Austin TX. Fantastic food. Awesome fun! Great happy hour prices. Great food prices. Awesome friendly service. Can anybody say OUTDOOR PATIO! Woohoo!
My wife and have been going for years and years and we still love the fajita nacho plate!

What a nice and convenient lunch. Had the light taco plate, substituted queso with vegetarian barracho beans. Everything was excellent, will try to make some beans like that.

I come to this location at least once a week. It’s a long standing go to place among our group of friends for dinner. I also work and live near here so I come here even more so for those reasons. I love the Wednesday special, Hatch Green Chili Chicken Enchilada. It’s so good, but sometimes it’s very spicy, it’s a risk you have to be willing to take. I love chips and queso so it’s hard for me to come here and not get that though. The chips are the good thin and warm kind. Some times you will get a cold batch but I just tell the server for another. They are also known for their creamy jalapeño dip as well. I’m not particularly a fan of the salsa though, it’s very chunky, not my thing. If it’s not Wednesday, then I get the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.
They have a great Happy Hour, that I’m sure most people take advantage of, they have a chip bar out of the trunk of a car. It’s pretty awesome, I rarely go to Happy Hour here though.
There is indoor and outdoor seating, they typically try to cater to the weather for the outdoor seating, so it’s not so terrible during the summer. It does get crowded during lunch and a lot at dinner as well. There can be a bit of a wait. The parking lot is semi annoying as well. I find that all Chuy’s have terrible parking lots here in Austin, the spots are super narrow for Texas sized trucks or regular size cars. The spots are tiny in the middle of the parking lot, the outer spots tend to be a bit bigger.

5 stars for food. It is usually how it looks and tastes at the other Chuys locations around the globe. Strangely one time we were at this location and they were out of chicken for the soup and burritos. Fajita chicken is not a good match for the soup.
Happy Hour. Get there early if you want the queso and beans. Very slow to refill these… like 30 minutes before happy hour is over it may not ever be refilled.
This particular Chuys is not as clean as others… bathrooms, tables, etc. And their service is definitely below the Chuy’s standard of other Austin locations.

Great tex-​mex! Never been disappointed with what I’ve ordered and their chips, salsa & jalapeño ranch are some of my favorite in Austin. Yum, yum, yum!

Middle of the road reliable Tex Mex.
No traumas. Nothing on the menu is bad.
Chuy’s has simple decent Mexican food with some class touches here and there.
One interesting note.
Austin Chuy’s are all keep Austin weird.
The College Station Chuy’s is as jock and mainline as they come.
Don’t ask me how Chuy’s does it.
Other places with locations in both places do not Austinize in Austin and College Stationize in College Station.
Chili’s, Freebird’s, Double Daves, Jason’s Deli etc clone themselves on both sides of the Yegua.
Austin Chuy’s is way better than College Station Chuy’s.
I always feel like I need to be wearing an American flag on my lapel to fit in at the College Station Chuys,
And frankly the food is not good enough to warrant me going out to buy an American flag pin.
But in Austin, I go to Chuy’s happily.
Ok, Ok, if you want AMAZING Mexican you go to Morelia’s Mexican Grill.
But if you are in Austin and Chuys is nearer than Morelia’s, you can do fine at Chuy’s without driving the extra mile.

Dallas… Wow he is fantastic! He connected with each person individually and made me feel great about my food choice! Good was great but our server was the best of the best!

We’ve known each other for some time now. Fajitas, enchiladas, nachos, or your special sauce — there’s nothing I won’t try and nothing I won’t like. You’ve impressed me through the years, staying the same, but still mixing it up in the right ways. Thank you for always being there. Hubcaps, Elvis, and silly margaritas.
For being named Chuys, your meat sure is tender.
Recently this location blew me away. Joe, our server, went above and beyond to provide great service and witty banter. Chuys, you know how to pick them.
Please never change. Keep provide Tex-​Mex classics in a fun manner.

Was really looking forward to Tex Mex for our first meal in Austin but we were pretty disappointed by Chuy’s.
While there are a ton of appealing menu options, the quality of the food itself is sub par and tastes like everything’s been frozen and then warmed up.
The chile relleno was well cooked and I liked the cheese and chicken inside. The chicken enchiladas were pretty good as well. But overall, everything is pretty average and not very authentic.
I will attest to the deliciousness of the jalapeño dip! And the margaritas looked great too.

I know… Chuy’s is a chain and I do try to stay away from chains, but it started here in Austin so I make an exception.
This location has terrible parking and going north on Lamar can be a nightmare when exiting said parking lot. But that’s really the only negative. The food is good — like most other locations. This location doesn’t usually screw up my special order Chuychanga like the Duval location does. The patio is right next to Lamar, but they’ve done a great job disguising that.
The best thing about this location is the Happy Hour. Weekdays from 4−7pm there are drink specials & free queso, chips & ground beef if you’re a carnivore. The other locations have this also, but the bar here doesn’t seem to get as crowded as some of the other locations where you’re lucky to find a seat. Now that I’ve said that, I probably won’t get a seat anymore.

Been to other locations that seemed much nicer, and cleaner. Meals and drinks were decent. My dining companion and I had a good lunch. However, I was violently ill after dining there on Friday afternoon. So… never again.

Sat at the bar to wait for our table and had margaritas. So good. Met a lovely couple at the bar who suggested a list of their favorite foods, some of which we ordered.
Fried Avocado is worth a shout if you’ve never had a fried avocado before lol
The queso was really really good and definitely killed my appetite. I ate way too many and the waiters keep the amazing chips coming.
Our food came and despite being not all that hungry I ate like I hadn’t eaten for days. Chicken fried steak was my fave sooo gluttonous.
Ugh, Chuy’s would be the death of me if I lived here.

This place is dangerously close to home. So close u can walk there in 5 minutes. The service has never been bad. The food standard with a few items that exceed expectations.
Today however I am saddened to say I did not much care for the chicken tortilla soup. First off I received it warm temperature not hot as it should be. I have ordered this many times in the past and love it. usually… today though it did not taste the same. Something changed or maybe not so good a batch. Hopefully it’s just a one time thing…
Now the tres Leches is to die for. I love it here. So good. They don’t just drizzle that milky sweet cream yumminess on it or on the plate. oh no… the bottom of the plate is drenched almost an inch deep with yummy caramel swirled in it. And then there’s more than 1 strawberry which I love. They give you more than 1 lol. And no whip cream thank you. Some places serve with whip cream… nope and no. Chuys by far in Austin hands down BEST Tres Leches.
Love the atmosphere and vibe. Patio is nice and dog friendly. Please fix the tortilla soup lol. I use to love it.

Chuy’s is my favorite restaurant in Austin. I could eat here every day of the Ming and not get tired of it. I love almost everything on the menu and can’t get enough of the salsa, creamy jalapeño, etc. I just recently tried the spicy cucumber martini and loved it. I just wish they would build a Chuy’s in Pflugerville because the Round Rock one always has a wait.

This is my fav Tex-​Mex deluxe sour team enchiladas got have the creamy jalapeño dip sauce.

With all the fuss I thought it would be a bit better, but it felt like a chain restaurant (which it is). My food was tasty and my out of town friends enjoyed the meal, but if you want something a bit more authentic I’d look for a hole in the wall joint instead.

No dings today. The service was excellent. The beans must have a new recipe as they were the best ever today. The enchiladas were on point. The unsweetened tea was unsweetened. The chips were fresh and warm. I had a great meal today.

Really tasty Tex-​Mex and very reasonably priced! What I had:
— House Margarita — not bad! I’d say it’s tastes about a $ 4.00 happy hour margarita. Wish they didn’t put in quite so much ice; I feel like I should get a little more for my money…
— Stuffed Avocado — soooo good! Creamy avocado, chicken just a taaad dry (but it’s served with a little queso sauce and chili, so not really a problem), and the right amount of panko breading. I could eat this stuffed avocado alllll day.
— Hatch Green Chili Enchiladas — tasty, soft, corn tortillas with a yummy green chili sauce. Not particularly spicy.
— Sides of Beans & Green Chili Rice — the Rice is really good! The best Mexican side of rice at any restaurant I’ve ever had! I wish I could get the recipe. The beans were like any side of refried beans you’d expect. Solid.
— (Big as Yo’ Face) Burrito w/​Chicken Fajita meat & Deluxe Tomatio Sauce — it was yummy! But not particularly memorable? There is so much cheese and sauce and beans, I probably wouldn’t spend the extra money for the chicken fajita meat; just get the regular chicken. I’m not sure what was deluxe about the Tomatio sauce compared to just the regular Tomatio sauce, so I’d just get the regular one next time. Again, it was solid! Though I was surprised they don’t have a shrimp option for the burrito.

I really don’t want to write a review for this location because it’s kind of our secret spot. While other Chuys locations seem to always be on an hour wait, we frequently get seated here right away. Even on Cinco de Mayo we only had like a 45 minute wait — which was our longest wait at this location to date.
For those who haven’t been to Chuys — why not?!? It’s always on my list of places I recommend to people visiting Austin. I’m personally a huge fan of their quesadillas, but I go off menu with adding beef fajita to them. The husband either gets a chuychanga or chicka-​chicka boom boom enchiladas.
A few important notes —
— The queso IS NOT vegetarian (chicken stock), however the boom boom sauce is a vegetarian version of queso, but it is spicy
— It is totally possible to eat here as a vegan
— They have a happy hour that involves free queso, ground beef and refried beans from 4 – 7, but the queso rarely gets filled again after 6:30, so plan accordingly if that’s your thing
— They love sour cream. If you do not, it’s always good to say no sour cream on basically everything you order
— Don’t order the cheese enchiladas. It’s been the only disappointing thing I’ve had here

Sauces are what makes Chuy’s special. Start with chips and salsa– but not only salsa. They have a variety of delicious dips for those thin & crispy chips. I recommend the creamy jalapeño. It’s got a bit of a kick but it’s not too hot for this heat-​sensitive northern girl.
Many of the burritos and enchiladas also come smothered in various sauces, which you can substitute for your favorite at will. The green tomatillo or the creamy «boom-​boom» are both mild and great choices. The green chile is more spicy– and our server offered me a taste of it before putting our order in. She saved me from a burrito I wouldn’t have been able to eat!
Fun atmosphere, lots of flavor, and friendly service. You can’t go wrong here.
