China Hill used to be my favorite delivery food in Austin when I lived off of Westgate. Now that I don’t live in their delivery zone, I have to pick it up. Still totally worth the drive. Great pork fried rice! Nice job as usual!

So here’s my update: As far as to go orders or delivery, they are terrible. They mess up orders or miss things from your order and when you call to complain they give you some kind of run around or argue. Their food isn’t that great anyhow, I just liked the delivery because I can’t leave my job and pizza gets exhausting. There is also no Jimmy johns that delivers here so my options are limited. However, with the occasional bland food and constant mix ups, and missing items. I won’t be ordering again any time soon.

This place I’d not a place to dine in. It’s best for carry out and delivery. The food is nothing special but I will hot all the right spots. It does is good and sometimes mediocre. The General Tso is usually the go to and the lo mein is not bad. I have had the beef and broccoli once again not special but not bad. The staff has always been friendly and mess up’s are very rare. The delivery time is usually off by 5 – 25 minutes so don’t be dissapointed if they are not on time, it’s a common occurrence. For the most part, it’s convenient it’s cheap and tasty.

Worst experience ever. We ordered delivery and they got our order wrong. Spoke to the manager and he automatically assumed the mistake was on my part when he wasn’t the one who took my order. I was over charged since the order was wrong. Didn’t offer me a refund until I asked. Then he has the nerve to ask me to come pick up the order. Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of delivery? Horrible customer service with mediocre food. Maybe dine in experience is different but I would not eat at this place again.

This place is great, and one of the best things about them is that they deliver late, even on Sunday’s! Food is always delivered hot and good!

Clearly gone downhill in the years since I have been here. Rice is dry, chicken is dry, there is a pea and a carrot in my dish(both are not mushrooms, jalapeño or basil the only veggies supposed to be there). The staff has sat at the desk the entire time I’ve been here complaining about the kitchen staff, complaining about days off and now have moved onto discussing their school schedule. $ 12.39 wasted and this taste will take a while to get out of my mouth. My love affair of driving by saying«mmmm… their basil chicken is amazing» is done.

This is my second review for China hill because they are STILLTHEBEST. I eat it pretty much every week. I sampled a cream cheese/jalapeño egg roll that they are considering for the menu and it was delicious. I hope they add it to the menu. If you’re a vegetarian, the vegetables with garlic sauce is awesome. I love the friendly people that work there too. It’s a great place, the only place I’ll eat Chinese food.

I totally dislike Chinese food. Its not my go to, even when its raining, knowing that it is the fastest and most delivered. I have ordered from China Hill before, and never written a review. I was browsing the reviews today as I wanted to order good Chinese food, and opted to order from here again. Firstly, the food was great. It was still really hot when it arrived. I ordered the Spicy Beef combo with Hot and Sour soup, an eggroll and two chicken wings(these two latter, I still haven’t eaten) and some Pork Lo Mein for my kid. Everything was really good. My only complaint on the food is that the spicy beef wasn’t as spicy as I would want. Not a big deal. Secondly, I wanted to address some of the other issues people had on previous reviews. The lady who answered the phone for my order spoke English well and listened. Not sure who else answers the phone and makes it difficult for others, but luckily for me, she knew exactly what I was talking about and repeated my order to me. The food, was hot. It wasn’t cold, and it didn’t have a funky taste. It tasted like Chinese food. Six hours later and I feel great, still full, not nauseous at all. Finally, my only complaint is the lack of plastic ware and napkins. Come on man, you are delivering take out, what if we were in an office or something… Anyway…

I went because one of my local app told me it was a great little local find. I beg to differ. It was kind of nasty and pretty expensive for take out

When our flight to Austin was delayed by 4 hrs, we were looking for a place our family could eat that we could take a teen & still open after 10:00PM. After a 20 min. drive, we learned the dine-in hours end at 9:00PM even though listed here & on Google til 10:30. I’ve just read how several people got sick eating here lately so maybe we were lucky.

So, just like many of the others reviewing, I became sick after eating their food too. I also had their shrimp!

This place is horrible. I ordered food to be delivered. It was practically inedible. Cold, overcooked, strange flavor, meat was unchewable and had to spit it out. I was vomiting the next day with food poisoning… likely from shrimp. I called to let them know. The guy that I spoke to said that his manager wasn’t available and would call back. Never did. Called the next day and was told that the manager wouldn’t speak to me and that I wasn’t able to have his name. Seriously?! I asked if they could at least refund my credit card and they said only if I still had the food and could return it. Holy Shit! Is this conversation really happening?! Then he said that I should have called when I was sick so that I could use there insurance. OMG! Stay away. The food and service is disgusting to say the least. I read in the other reviews that I wasn’t the only one with food poisoning so I will be contacting the restaurant inspectors. Hope no one else gets sick.

China Hill has the BEST Chinese food that I have ever had, and probably ever will have, when it comes to delivery. My best friend and I order from them at least 1x a week, and I’m not exaggerating. We usually get the same thing(steamed veggies on the diet menu w/teriyaki sauce, substitute fried rice for the white rice that usually comes with it, and an order of the crab rangoon.) BUT when we have ventured away from our norm, and tried something else — Ex. the veggie lo mien or the steamed dumplings — We have not been disappointed. The egg rolls are a treat as well. The only complaint that I would have is that it does not get to my door fast enough so that it can get into my belly. But, when you order, they tell you it is going to be at least 45 minutes to an hour, and it takes every bit of that to get to you. BUTSODAMNWORTHIT. Try it. You will not be disappointed.

MADEMESICKFOR3DAYS!!! Normally I’d give a thorough review on taste, quality, delivery, portion size etc., but that doesn’t matter at this point. I was in bed for 24 hrs, only to get up for vomiting, diarrhea and water refills. Took me an additional 2 days to fully recover from nausea, body aches and weakness. Be warned and take your chances elsewhere

Terrible! Why someone would give this place 5 stars is beyond me. The sesame chicken was over cooked-dry and tough. Pan fried noodles were stale and the sauce tasted weird. Hot and sour soup was nothing special. If I needed a Chinese food fix and it was between this place and Panada Express, I would choose Panada.

China Hill, it’s like chinese food except way worse. Everything I had was not good. Way too many chinese places around to waste your time and stomach here.

I’m going to start by saying that if I was judging on food alone, I would be leaving a much higher rating. As far as Chinese delivery goes, the food is the best around. I’ve not had a bad dish, the chicken is well cooked and flavorful, and the portions are more than generous. In fact it was the food that led me to give China Hill another chance. The service is the worst, the girl working the phone today(1−3−14, around 330pm) didn’t seem able to understand my order. I had to repeat several times, and she seemed confused. I ordered the same way that I typically do, but this time my food came as á la carte items instead of a combo, and I was missing the egg rolls and chicken wings. I called back and she said because I didn’t «specifically say combo,» I didn’t get a combo. I was understanding, when the young lady replied in a snarky tone«sorry for the miscommunication.» Working in food service myself, I didn’t feel this was the proper tone to use to speak to customers. Up until that point, I was willing to place another order for the missing items. This is the third time I’ve received similar attitude from this restaurant in particular. Previously when I decided to take a hiatus from ordering, it was because of another rude phone interaction. My order came wrong, completely wrong entrée for my aunt who was visiting town. I called back and the lady on the phone told me «I took your order and I known you didn’t say that.» When I had ordered off of a slip of paper containing everybody’s orders. Telling a customer they are wrong is not good customer service. To make a long review short, the food is great and consistent just don’t expect the same from the employees.

This place is so freakin awesome! Have been a patron here since the 90’s and have yet to have a bad meal. The sesame chicken is incredible. Seems to always be dried out and other restaurants(here it’s perfect every time)! Hot and sour soup, great. Check this place out if you haven’t. To go is super fast!

Vietnamese Style Spring Rolls with Shrimp — 4⁄5 stars These certainly weren’t jumbo shrimp by any stretch and there were no special herbs like lemongrass or basil for added flavor, but I was still VERY happy with these. They were HUGE(tons of vermicelli and lettuce) which I so appreciate because I ALWAYS crave something light, fresh, and vegetarian(or nearly so) after a hearty helping of salty, fried, American-Chinese food. …with Peanut Sauce — 2⁄5 Just too sweet for me, which I think is not uncommon in Americanized Chinese. I can easily make my own peanut sauce at home with Laura Scudder’s smooth peanut butter, coconut milk, soy sauce, and a couple other ingredients… which I think is closer to authentic peanut sauce than this super sweet stuff. I skipped it. Basil Shrimp — 5⁄5 stars Interesting and DELICIOUS! My husband commented about jalapeño + basil being a «bizarre yet delicious culture-clash.» He thought jalapenos were strictly Mexican and basil was strictly Italian. I corrected him. Sweet & Sour Pork — 5⁄5 stars Big chunks of pork, lightly battered, as promised. No disappointments here. Teriyaki Chicken — 4⁄5 stars First thing I noticed was it was not sprinkled with sesame seeds like one might expect. But that garnish I’m sure is optional, so no points off for that. And who cares, right? However, I’m fairly certain the chicken was«boiled» in this sauce instead of sautéed, explaining the very pale color of the chicken breast. Yet, it was all white meat, the flavor itself was spot on, and the texture was not entirely of dry, boiled chicken. General Tso’s Chicken — 5⁄5 stars Whoever complained about the hell peppers«as garnish» in the General Tso… First of all, for that Unilocaler to say«they should have picked the peppers out of my General Tso’s Chicken before plating» is simply ridiculous. Search«General Tso’s Chicken» in Google Images and tell me if you don’t see any dried chili peppers on the plates. I dare you. They are PART of the dish! And the peppers ARE edible if you’re man enough. I enjoyed two of them(not lying!), albeit nibble by nibble. When I was 12, I made the mistake of inadvertently eating one of these peppers whole at Fire Bowl Café here in Austin. And I learned my lesson – instant mouth-faucet. Fried rice — 5⁄5 stars. Not dry or overly seasoned. In fact, I added salt. Better to under-salt than over-salt, am I right? Moist and flavorful. Nom nom nom nom nom nom. White rice — 5⁄5 stars. Very good. Not dry or overcooked. Unsalted(to be expected, I think). I’m not a huge fan of white rice, but my boyfriend requested it. We were skeptical of this place because we were so disappointed in the last Chinese restaurant we ordered from in this area(78749) and we couldn’t remember if this was the same place or not – we order Chinese very infrequently. From the«other restaurant,» the servings came in HUGE, styrofoam boxes FILLED to the brim(almost comically) with food, but everything we ordered was really just piles of thick, hard batter encasing tiny, dry, kibble-sized pieces of shrimp, chicken, or beef. And so, ordering from China Hill, I prepared myself for the absolute worst, but was PLEASANTLY surprised. One more note about the price vs portion. Again, the last Chinese restaurant we ordered from offered HUGE $ 7 portions and the food was terrible. China Hill offers smaller $ 8 portions of MUCH better food. I can’t complain about the portion size or the price. We had leftovers for a day & ½.
