yes… i finally had the chance to try this… shiok… had the Chicken Fried Rice. and the owner asked me how spicy 1 – 10, i said 10 and it was still not spicy enough… i need to remind him the next time i am in town… to make it 15.

I love the chili chicken fried rice so much, I’ve never tried anything else. If you like spicy, number 8 is very hot, but just hot enough to be delicious; you can still savor the food. The owner is also very nice. Enjoy!

When I visited a friend in Austin I had to try this place because it’s so legendary on Unilocal.I was kind of shy for making her drive me over when we got there, but was expecting really good food none the less. The owner is super nice and helpful. He recommended I get a paneer wrap since I mentioned I don’t eat meat. He also told me that he ships his paneer from India. The bread at this place is to die for. I don’t think I’ve had as good of a flat bread since I was in Malaysia. The green onions were so good it in, there wasn’t too much paneer and deliciously spicy. Hands down best Indian food I’ve ever had. Next time I’m in Austin I’m going back. Hiiiiighly recommend!

Went there because of high rating but a little disappointed. Food is not as good as i thought. Ordered chicken fried rice. Taste like any indian rice. Nothing special but portion wise is huge. This is the place you should go if you are starving and don’t care about taste

What a fun, weird hole-in-the-wall. Have to order the titular dish, but otherwise can’t go wrong.

Amazingly good food in the humblest of settings. Be smart: bring someone here for a first date.

This place is amazing. You might be confused at first, because when you pull up to the convenience store at this address, well, it’s a convenience store! But that’s all a clever ruse. Hiding in the back of the store is the gem of an eatery that is Chicken Lollypop. For $ 6, you get the eponymous chicken on the bone marinated in tantalizing house sauce. The rest of the menu is a Chinese/Indian fusion including Szechuan fried rice(what I ordered; it was fantastic) various Naan wraps(what I’ll order next time; my friend graciously gave me a bite of his and it was out of this world) and something called simply Chicken 65, which has no description on the menu but smelled like what I can only name as the second coming of Christ. The icing on this deliciously spicy cake was the proclamation at the top of the menu I picked up on the way out — they deliver, y’all.

This place knows how to make great Indian-Chinese and Indian street food. Period. Don’t do for the ambience here, not your typical restaurant. But no complaints about that. The quality and the price of food is amazing.

LOVED the experience here. Didn’t expect it to be in a convenience store, so when I brought my friends here, we looked at each other expecting something super sketch. But we left happy and with bags of chips for later! The food was warm, hot, and filling for the price. The naan wraps are super tasty; stuffed with juicy juicy curry. The naan itself is quite thick. Simple overall, but exactly what I was craving. Definitely one of my favorite Indian experiences in Austin!

I hesitate to tell people about Chicken Lollypop because then they’ll find it and the wait for food will get even longer! First things first, this is in a creepy little convenience store. The only pluses are the fact that they seem to have a decent beer selection. I would greatly advise you order over the phone and come in to pick up your order. Otherwise you’ll be stuck sitting there listening to really obnoxious techno and staring at some weird merchandise. The food does take awhile, but it’s worth the wait. The owner makes me want to come here all the time to ensure he succeeds. He cares so much and when you see how large the servings are, you’ll agree. I got 2 meals out of my garlic fried rice, even though the egg pancake did not last longer than 5 minutes. Seriously, that thing is a dream come true. Covering the entire dish of fried rice it’s a tasty blanket of egg and spices. I could not eat it fast enough. The naan is so buttery and good I didn’t know what to think. My brain seriously went on the fritz for a second as I couldn’t compute that this naan came out of that convenience store. And that’s the surprise here, the food is so good it shouldn’t be in a tiny, weird convenience store. This is some of the best gas station food I have ever had, just don’t plan on eating it in the store. Take it home so you can enjoy it properly!

This place is terrible! I don’t know how it’s earned so many positive reviews. 1. Pricing on Unilocal doesn’t match what he charges(2 x of Unilocal prices) he claims that they are in the process of updating Unilocal,it’s a picture on Unilocal so I don’t see how this is a process unless he’s still using a 386 with dial-up to update 2. EVERYTHING is RED and tastes EXACTLY alike… Hot and sour soup, chili chicken and manchurian are all the same… Not baseless I’m posting pictures as evidence. Also, I ordered the triple schezwan rice and that was RED too 3. I called the owner to make it right but encountered apprehension so hung up and ordered from Masala Wok instead Me or anyone I know will NEVER visit this place EVERAGAIN

I just went to CLAYPIT and was disappointed. I ended up here looking for something good and was not disappointed. Its in a convenient store and you’ll see some windows marked with their name. Keep your eyes open. Some reviewers indicated that they can get busy and i see why. Its a small stand in the back of the store with what looks like two people working there. luckily i was there at the right time with no one there. I got their chicken lollipop and curry fried rice and cant say how happy i was. The food had the right spice and flavor that is typical of indian cuisine. Since it was in a convenient store, you can get any drink you want and get any snakcs after if you want… Then pay it all at the register. Its not fine dining, but who can complain for the price. Good place for a simple meal!

I absolutely loved the paneer naan wrap that I ordered tonight. I will be back to try more soon! On a side note, the owner is very friendly, and genuinely helpful with his recommendations. His service was refreshing and left a memorable impression. I look forward to returning.

I arrived one hour before they closed on Labor Day and it was empty. I was greeted by friendly staff that informed me several items were not available. The lollipop chicken is a deep fried curry flavored appetizer, similar to tandoori chicken seasoning. The spice heat is a 7 – 8 on a scale of 10. The chicken is on a bone and was juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Turmeric seasoning was perfectly balanced with the tangy yogurt. Turmeric gives it an orange color and when mixed with paprika and cayenne the chicken brightens it to a deep red. Personally, I like spicy foods and I love Indian cuisine. It is nice to see a twist and I will be back to try other dishes. I’m looking forward to experiencing the Chinese flavors intertwined with Indian in their fried rices. I’m hungry already!

Pros: –their famous chicken lollypop is unlike any chicken I’ve tasted before. You must order it. –the Sichuan fried rice is super spicy, for any spicy food lovers out there. –friendly service, he makes the food right after you order –their naan is fried and oh so good! –I like that their fried rice comes with an egg omelet on top of the dish. Cons: –expect to not be wowed by the interior, since this shares the same building as a convenient store. –frozen veggies in their fried rice

Sorry, Unilocal,I put off writing this review because I want Chicken Lollypop all to myself. Chicken lollypop is my favorite food in Austin. I had never heard of it until we moved to the neighborhood and now we come almost twice a week! From what the chef Immie has told me, the lollypops marinate a VERY long time, so by the time they hit your plate they are so tender and delicious they are almost falling off the bone. They are AMAZING. I love to eat in the restaurant and people watch or order ahead and bring it home. You can buy wine or beer at the convenience store and it makes for an excellent date night in! The prices are unbelievable — the naan wrap is literally five dollars for a whole meal and it is DELICIOUS. The chili paneer fried rice is one of our favorite meals and it can feed both of us if we’re hungry, but really it’s enough food for three or four meals! Even if we lived a thirty minute drive away, we’d still be at chicken lollypop every week because it’s just that delicious. I think chicken lollypop is spearheading the way for delicious food in northeast Austin, this neighborhood is really on the up-and-up food-wise.

Started going here before whatever article came out about it, but now wait times are even longer. I had this place bookmarked on Unilocal cause the reviews looked pretty good and I had never had chicken lollipops before. Located in the back of the convenience store, the owner is a one man show. Food takes a little while to come out, but being a one man show, he takes the order and then makes all the food. For this trip, I got the house fried rice, the chicken lollipops, and naan. The fried rice portions are huge here, so it’s plenty to be 2 meals. The chicken lollipops were basically chicken wings where the meat was pulled to one end, then marinated to turn them a bright, delicious red. The naan was just as good as the homemade naan’s at any other Indian restaurant. All in all, food was delicious and I would definitely come back. I’ve seen many people rave about the Chicken 65 so that’s probably what I’ll get next.

No Lollypop, No FUN That is what Chef Immie told us the 1st time we tried to grab some grub here and it was sold out. Second time was the charm! The food here(ESPECIALLYTHECHICKENLOLLYPOP) will make even the Pope curse(if he hasn’t already…). It will make you ‘shangry’ when you can’t place your order…(Combo of Sad-Hungry-Angry). The food here is SO delicious and Chef Immie is SO chill yet incredibly passionate about every aspect of the art of cooking. He genuinely wants you to enjoy his cooking and if he thinks you can’t enjoy it, he probably won’t cook. There aren’t enough words and/or sounds that can describe how wonderful the food is here. DONOTSHARE, b/c sharing is NOT caring when it comes to Chicken Lollypop. If you truly care about your family and friends who came to this place with you, you will each get your own order.(YOU’REWELCOMEINADVANCE! ^_^)

The once-in-a-blue-Yelp-Moon when I don’t generally agree with the overall reviews of a well-reviewed place… Like Errol M, «I missed the boarding pass on this one». I’m all for the well-executed hole-in-the-wall, especially when said hole-in-wall is a fun/new/different take on an ethnic cuisine. Like so many others, I DID think the namesake menu item(chicken lollypops) was fantastically delicious. Could easily eat two dozen of these and still want more. The chili fried rice was so basic and so average, with an overbearing amount of egg placed over the top. I was so excited about the ginger chicken – but what we got was a rather disgusting glop of nasty broth with pieces of meat that did not seem like chicken and at least two cups of mushy peas. There was nothing even remotely decent about this dish. The Paneer Shezwaan Naan Wrap was mostly pleasant – something unique that I’ve never had before. If I came back here, I’d probably order this again. On the plus side, portions are large and you’ll definitely have leftovers. I had such high expectations and left dissatisfied. But then again — everyone else loves it, so you probably will, too!

Set in a east side convenience store, I think Chicken Lollypop could be one of the best Unilocal stars success stories I’ve seen in awhile. We visited on a Saturday afternoon watching store patrons grab phillies and 40’s one after another as we settled in for my our first adventure into Indian Chinese cuisine. A bit of a slow start; they had just taken a large order so it took a few minutes to get back to the window. Our feast started with the signature pops. Carefully fried in what seemed to be a redish 6 month long marinade; I mean who has the special knife skills to bone a hot wing into a lollypop creation? I like this origami food shit! Entrees consisted of the chili paneer and my choice of the triple szechuan fried rice. Next small misstep as I ordered shrimp which costs more; chicken was presented instead. The owner I presume delivered our dishes; then came out five minutes later and completely won us over. Genuine guidance for our expectations for after meal care. I mean, this was like I went to an Indian bikram gym where you ate instead. The heat came on early in my fried rice. I ate about ¼ of the presented offering complete with an open faced omelete covering the dish; the wifey about the same. Each bite was flavorful producing a nice burn. Portion size is huge; had enough leftovers for two days. Prices were reasonable, can’t wait for another visit.
