I was sick of having male pattern baldness and shaving my head bald all the time to avoid having a «Skullet». So I made an appointment with Casey Miller at Bosley’s Austin office. Casey immediately put me at ease and clearly explained all my options as well as managed my expectations. He made a quick phone call and was able to get my financing approved for 2 years with no interest even tho I didn’t have A+ credit. The actual surgical office is in Houston with Dr. Feldman and I scheduled the procedure for a Saturday since it takes up most of the day. I drove from Austin to Houston after work on Friday and stayed at the Double Tree Hotel right next to the Bosley office. I also had the hotel room booked for Saturday night which was a smart idea because I was able to walk back to the hotel after my procedure(it’s literally like 100 feet away) and order some room service since I was still a bit sedated. The Houston office runs like clockwork, very organized since they do these procedures 6 days a week. Dr. Feldman is a pro and gave me several options for placing the new hair on my head before prepping for the procedure. The whole operation was a breeze: 1. Dr. Feldman examined my scalp and determined they could harvest about 2,000 follicles. He uses a grease pencil to outline the exact area where your hair will be transplanted. I have to admit it seemed odd but I get it now and I’m happy with the hair placement. 2. The next step is they take you to the procedure room and have you sit in basically a dentist chair.(it was comfy and they gave me a blanket since they keep the room cool) You have a team of 5 or 6 people dedicated to your procedure and everything was very well organized. 3. There is a TV and they had me choose 3 movies and select my lunch order ahead of time.(like I said earlier it takes most of the day) They gave me some valium to take the edge off and started numbing the donor area and the recipient area. 4. In order to numb the areas they used a cool little tool that vibrated and made the numbing process almost pain free.(almost like a tattoo needle) I’ve had much worse experiences at the dentist! I will warn you that since it is your scalp you can«hear» some crunching noises as the tiny needle does its job. Honestly it didn’t bother me since the Valium was kicking in and my first movie had started. 5. Once everything was numbed up, Dr. Feldman came in and extracted the donor hair. The guy really is a pro! He walked in and got right to it and was talking to me the whole time. Before I knew it he was finishing up the stitching process. He actually uses 1 long stitch to minimize scarring. Pretty cool in my book. No pain whatsoever. 6. At that point it was easy street. I watched my movies and had lunch while 2 technicians placed the donor hair onto the recipient site. No pain at all! I can only imagine that it must get a little repetitive for the techs as they place each follicle. A few hours later the procedure was complete and I was still enjoying my valium sedation. :) 7. Before leaving the office I was given some vicodin, antibiotics and stitch removal kit. You will want the vicodin later because you will definitely be sore around the donor area in the back of your head. Since I was staying another night at the hotel I was able to use the big chairs and bed pillows in my room to sleep upright that first night. 8. In the morning after the procedure I actually got some good sleep in my hotel room(thanks to the vicodin and all the pillows) so the drive home back to Austin was a breeze. 9. Two weeks later I made an appointment with Casey in Austin to follow up on my healing process and address any concerns that I may have had. Overall, I am really happy with the entire experience and I would definitely recommend this procedure to anyone who has male pattern baldness and wants to do something about it!
