Cool joint but pricey. Because of the prices, the value is not as high as other places. Good burger, great fries and great sauces. Their beer selection is good as well.

First visit: I always visit a place at least twice before forming my final opinion to test consistency. I’ll update this review after that has happened but for now here are my thoughts: Boise Fry Company is a very interesting concept, they focus on the often neglected burger side kick — fries. Fry options are abundant, burger options are less so, but how many burger options do you REALLY need? I ordered the gold curly fries because I’m a sucker for curlies with a beef burger topped with bacon, cheese, and their classic mix of toppings consisting of lettuce(green leaf?), red onion, pickles, tomatoes, and smoked special sauce. Their fries come unseasoned leaving you the freedom and creativity to use their multitude of seasonings to craft your own favorite flavor palette. Their list of seasonings included sea salt, cajun, jalapeño, horseradish, vanilla(odd?), some sort of cinnamon blend, and others, in a self serve area to mix and match or be as heavy handed as you prefer. They also had a row of sauces for your fries or burger including ketchup, spicy ketchup, blueberry ketchup(what?), fry sauce, spicy fry sauce, chipotle, sweet mustard, garlic aioli, and maybe one or two others. First step was trying sauces, I got a couple plastic cups and filled them with tiny samples of most of their options and tasted them one by one. I settled on a pretty tasty 1:1:1 combination of fry sauce, spicy fry sauce, and sweet mustard. Most of their sauces have a hint of Worcestershire and its fairly obvious in the flavors that you experience so if you dont care for that taste steer clear of the more adventurous sauces. Let me take you through a little play-by-play… Visual impression — the fries look like they are cooked decently and the burger looks great. First taste was the burger — not bad, bacon seems to be the type that tastes a little greasy/fatty, not terrible, but I’ll not get bacon next time. Second bite — what is that other taste I can’t place? I lift the bun and investigate the contents and reference the menu. Something tastes familiar but what is it? Is it that smoked special sauce? No, that’s not it. Third bite — eat a pickle from the burger. There it is; they use bread and butter pickles! Not what I would ever put on a burger and surprising it isn’t listed on the menu that they use bread and butter pickles. I know my girlfriend would’ve been disappointed because she dislikes anything but dill pickles. Fourth bite — not a bad burger, the bread is nice, just need some minor changes on the next trip(no bacon or pickles). Fries — fries were good, nothing too special but then again I got pretty basic fries choosing curly golds. They were sufficiently fried, crispy enough with a slight softness inside that you expect. Overall this place isn’t bad but it’s not exactly amazing either. I’ll save my final decision until after the second visit but my preliminary thoughts are it’s a fun concept but I’m not sure if it’s as refined as I would have hoped for a small franchise.

Went there to try out their various spud offerings but was disappointed. The fries are too oily and greasy, and there’s no texture in the potatoes. The only one worth mentioning were the mashed potato po’balls. The staff were very nice and its a very casual place.

Ohhh yessss of your a sauce hore like I am you will love this place. Lots of dipping sauces for the fries. I was in heaven. The burger was good. But the fries are where its at. They had all kinds. Its kinda pricy for a burger joint, but quality is good.

If you ever need a basket of fatty fries, this is the place to go! I got whatever their biggest, greasiest buckets of fries is called, and it was delicious. Maybe even a bit *too* salty. But I enjoyed them. Maybe just tell them to go easy on the salt.

Not bad at all. The burger was quite good and there are an interesting assortment of fries that you an choose from, as well as fry sauces. I tried the po-balls(just because I wanted to say the word«po-balls»); they were good for the first few but then they started to seem too heavy. I’d recommend sharing fries with someone else so that you can try the po-balls but then have some traditional fries as well. I enjoyed trying all of the sauces they offer(ketchup, spicy ketchup, blueberry ketchup, fry sauce, spicy fry sauce, etc.). I didn’t find any that really knocked my socks off, though. Overall, I’d go again if I’m in the area.

BFC was not to bad. its VERY casual. Enter, and line up at the cash register, pick your potato and cut, then a burger. We went in the evening and many varieties of potatoes and cuts were sold out for the day. I picked a curly fries cut, and Gold potato’s. This may have been the last serving as there were only a few totally complete curly fries and many tiny specs of french fries… My Wife got the regular Russets and there were plenty of regular fries in that batch. We both had Bison burgers with regular toppings, and I thought mine was great, good texture and tasty. a bit on the small side but A-OK as we say… They have a robust selection of dips for the fries which is FUN! its worth a try but I don’t think it will go into rotation for us, although it is close…

I only took off a star because when we first entered the restaurant, there was a very sewer-y smell to the place. I’m sure it was all the potatoes. It went away after we sat in and ate. The staff was so nice to us, I asked them what the difference between a yam and a sweet potato. He gave me a short explanation and said, «let me have you guys try some!» Such a nice offering. He fried some yams and sweet potatoes for us, I was thinking just a few fries but he fried us a small bowl of yam and sweet potato! Again, very nice. The selection of sauces are endless. I love the garlic aioli and spicy fry sauce combo(:

I drive for Lyft part time and a passenger told me his friend was in town visiting his brother who runs this place? Something like that… anyway, it’s near our house and he said it was good so we decided to give it a try! We got the akaushi beef burger and the bison burger, some po balls, some curly fries, some purple fries, and some other fries I can’t remember. Everything was really good. They have a plethora of sauces and salts to create different flavor combinations with the blank canvases that are their fries. Some of the salts they had: Cajun, jalapeño, smoked, vanilla, ginger cinnamon, rosemary garlic, and more. Some of the dipping sauces: chipotle aioli, garlic aioli, blueberry ketchup, sweet mustard, BBQ, fry sauce, spicy fry sauce, and more. I’ve gotta say, their spicy ketchup was legit. It tasted like it was made with ancho peppers. It has a nice dark color to it. Yum! Their sweet mustard had a nice balance of sweet and spicy. Their chipotle aioli was also one of my favs. All their burgers come cooked med well unless otherwise specified. The akaushi burger was moist and delicious. The bison was also quite tasty. I’m slightly confused as to why other reviewers said the burger was tiny… it was a pretty good size! I couldn’t even finish mine… anyhow, The po balls, like some others mentioned were almost like fried mashed potato balls but with a crispy exterior. We thought they were pretty good. My only complaints: I’m pretty sure my combo was supposed to come with a pint of their house made soda, but I was just given a cup for their regular soft drinks. I didn’t realize this until halfway through our meal. Also, about half of the salts were borderline empty– to the point that nothing was really coming out of the shakers. I might normally dock a star for those things, but some of the reviews on here are harsh so I’ll balance it out with a full 5 :) To my Lyft passenger(if you read this): I hope you found your key! Thanks for recommending this place! We’ll be back!

The hubs and I decided to go try this out because I LOVEEE condiments. I love having a varitey of sauces and spices to choose from because I love the creativity involved in making your own special mix of flavors and such. So this was the place for me. I was kind of bummed when we got there because even though they had many cut options for their potatoes, they were only offered to certain types of potatoes. For example, I wanted to try their purple potatoes however, they were only offered in the thick-cut homestyle option, although I would’ve preferred a more crunchier shoe-string or curly cut style. Also, they had no shoe-string fries at all. Why? Their fries were also on the greasy side. I think they pre-fry their taters, and then re-fry them per order. Makes for a really greasy fry. I then ordered their vegan burger with the topping that included the red onion gastrique, and it was nice. I did love all their condiment options; my favorite was their spicy fry sauce and the chipotle sauce. Blueberry ketchup was unique and interesting. They had a Happy Hour special over the weekend and were offering half-off fries, which was also nice. Everything was alright. Not bad but ok.

So everything I tried here was very interesting. I’m glad I got to try things like purple potatoes, «po balls», blueberry ketchup, and a bison burger. However, in terms of taste, they all missed the mark. Fries: Wanting to try something new, I ordered purple potato«po balls». I wasn’t sure what to expect. The po balls were small, rather heavily fried. Each had a thick, crunchy, crispy exterior and dough-like inside. Basically, fried mashed potato balls. The texture seemed to be done right, the way they intended, but wasn’t for me. It was worth trying, though, and I loved the color! Burger: I got a bison burger because I’ve never tried one before. Tastes like beef. Patty was a little dry. I also got«the heat» toppings, which sounds interesting but did NOT work flavor-wise. Like it just tasted like a blend of jarring flavors, none of which stood out individually or worked together as a whole. The original toppings probably would’ve been better. Sauces: Garlic aioli is way too light, seemed like mayo with a bit of garlic powder. «Fry sauces» were pretty generic. Sweet mustard was straight-up bad; I think they put too much horseradish? I ended up preferring the chipotle and BBQ because they just had more flavor. Blueberry ketchup was interesting… pretty bad by itself, but with the po balls, it actually worked. Very mild though. If you’re coming here hoping to try something new, just prepared to be disappointed. Perhaps their classic menu items are done better, but there wasn’t a lot going right flavor-wise with the more unique fare.

Yeeeaaahhhh… no. Seriously, just don’t. The burger here is awful. I get that it’s not the focus, but come on man… how do you eff the burger up that badly? It is the weirdest tasting burger I have had in a long time. I am not sure what they season their beef with, but it’s not good whatever it is. The fries. So yeah, there’s that part too. I got the Po Balls because that’s the thing that is ‘different’ about this place. They were light and crispy for sure, and they tasted much better than the burger did. But it still wasn’t all that good. The variety of sauces is pretty great, but I only found about half of them to be any good. What I really wish they had is a french fry platter of some sort. That way I could try a bunch of the types of fries without having to buy a small serving of each type. Seriously, just cook a bunch of fries, throw them all in one bowl, and give them to me. So anyway, this place kinda sucks. If I ever want a dinner of just french fries, I might think about coming here. However, I think the likelihood of that happening is about the same as me uncovering an ancient Egyptian tomb in my back yard while scooping cat shit out of the sandbox.

Just got done eating there for the first time. I had the Bison burger done Original I believe with Golden Potato fries. The burger was delicious. You pay extra for the Bison but overall tasty burger. The fries. were okay. A bit oily/soft for my liking normally but with the amount of ketchups and sauces you have to choose from to dip them in is amazing. Overall nice spot. Just go knowing its not cheap. But good food, cool concept and it’s a small business. So go give em a visit!

First time, maybe not the last. Over all decent experience. Came in and great service. Fast and knowledgeable. Also very attentive to keeping you happy. Ordered #2, w purple fries and kyatushi burger. Portion size was good. Enough fries to feed 2 people. Standard burger size. Free refills on drinks. The major seller that kept this at 3 stars was the various sauces and seasonings available for the fries. Quality wland flavor was decent. The fries were very good. Perfectly cooked. The burger was a bit overcooked and the flavor was not there. It tasted like a sausage party from McDonald’s, though a lot better quality. However, the gastro onion were definitely on point. Price was the killer for this place. The meal was almost 15 $. For the portion size not bad, but burger taste not good. 4 $ for fries, 8 $ for burger, and 2 $ for drink. Do not come here for the burgers. I’ll probably come back to try some more fries but that’s it. Maybe bring a chicken sandwhich in with me or just take the fries to go. The saying is «burgers on the side». Just leave the beef and come in and grab some fries.

I tend to really like fries. So when I saw the sign, I knew I wanted to come here when it opened up. I also love customizing orders and trying a bunch of flavors and whatnot. So when I read that you get to choose what kind of potato/cut you want AND what dipping sauces and seasonings you want, I was sold: I knew I HAD to come here. I had an order of small purple homestyle fries and a «side» of vegan burger, original style. Now, you can’t get all the potatoes in all the different cuts, but that’s okay. I just want to try all the different potatoes at some point. FYI the homestyle cut is thicker than the regular cut, and the fries do not come seasoned(because you can add your own, duh). Of all the sauces, I liked the fry sauce best. It’s very flavorful and distinctly different from regular old ketchup. I found that the spicy fry sauce was a little overpowering on the heat(not that it was super spicy; it just masked most of the flavor). The blueberry ketchup is pretty mild in flavor. The garlic aioli is decent, but more creamy than I generally prefer. Chipotle sauce was pretty forgettable for me, so I’d have to try it again. I didn’t like the sweet mustard — not enough sweet and the mustard kicks in really hard. As for the seasoning, I need to figure out a good way to try them all because they come in big shakers. I only had the garlic & rosemary, which was certainly a good, safe bet. With all these options, I don’t see how you can go wrong with fries. The burgers end up being a fairly pricey«side» though. I thought the vegan burgers were alright; not my favorite, but not bad. I liked that the patty wasn’t dry and didn’t fall apart. They will cook the veg patty on a separate grill from the meaty stuff(unless you specify that it’s okay to cook it on the same grill), which is nice if it’s important to you. They seem to use ciabatta bread(I think. not really a bread expert), which generally isn’t my favorite. I found the bottom piece cracking and crumbling a bit as I was close to finishing my burger. They do also have a gluten-free bread as an option. Overall I liked the experience. This wouldn’t necessarily be my first choice for burgers, but I will definitely come back for all the different fries and the fry sauce. PS they have a few beers on tap — $ 4.50 per pint(and cans at $ 3.50). Happy hour is from Mon-Fri, 4−6pm: half-off select fries & beers.

The fries and dips are good, but their hamburger meat tastes like gyro meat. No joke! Not bad, but not good either. I just couldn’t eat mine. Their spicy ketchup and garlic aioli are good. The secret sauce they put on the burgers I did not care for. It was like an extra ketchupy thousand island sauce.

THEFRENCHFRIESARESOGOOD! And you get like a bunch of choices for the dipping sauces which is so much fun!(We tried them all without any judgemental looks, ha!) You can really tell that this place truly cares about the origin of their ingredients because it comes through with how the food tastes. With everything from bison burgers, crazy good sauces, to purple potatoes, you truly get a unique experience! A place meant to be in Austin. The staff was polite and attentive and explained the menu for us newbies that had no idea what we were doing, which I greatly appreciated. Will definitely have this on my list as a regular place to eat!

I was intrigued by the idea. Choose your potato, choose the cut, and there is a myriad of yummy dipping sauces. Choose your meat and fixings. They not kidding when the sign boasts«burger on the side». This is least tasty, small, and expensive burger I can remember. We had three burgers, each of a different meat, and all the patties were well-done and dry, and the absolute worst part is the bun. It was dry and probably comes frozen. My sons and hubby’s buns were at least room temp, mine was cold on the inside. So being new may excuse the over-cooked burger, but the choice of bun(???). One of the employees asked us how everything tasted, and when we politely told her about the cold bun and overcooked patties, but she didn’t seem to care. I love fries and the concept was very interesting, however, the execution was poor. Hopefully, they will get the fryer working properly. Poor food and poor service, no thanks.

I went to their opening night last night. I was surprised that no one was there but then again this place has had an opening soon sign for months. I saw their Facebook post they were opening last night so I knew I had to go. So on to the experience… So I go in and of course I hadn’t been before, The manager asked if I wanted to be walked through the menu which while not a lot on the actual menu there is a lot of options. First they are a fry place and the burger is a side item. You pick your potato(they had 7 different options of potato!), then you pick your cut of potato which for what I can tell they have 7 different cuts but they are not all available at all times. After that I picked a classic burger with beef. They have a few protein options you can pick as well. They then inform me that they dont salt their fries because they have a seasoning bar. The seasoning/sauce bar was fantastic. I think there were 6 or 7 seasonings for the fries from sea salt to vanilla powder(which I am told goes good with their blueberry ketchup). The sauces were in abundance as well. I grabbed a little bit of everything,(garlic aioli, fry sauce, spicy fry sauce, sweet mustard, and a few others that I don’t remember). I got my order to go. The price was what you expect to pay at Hopdoddy’s or a similar place. When I got the food home about 10 mins later it was still warm. I had the gold potato curly fries and I put garlic rosemary and sea salt on them. They were the biggest, longest curly fries I have ever had and they were AMAZING! I got the regular burger with cheese and bacon. It came with lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickle and their special sauce. Everything tasted super fresh. The bottom bun was a little weird looking and reminding me of the heel of bread but it tasted great so who really cares. The staff was super nice though you could tell they were still learning the ropes. If you like fries and want to try every kind of potato, deep fried then this is your place. Again, burgers are good but a side item to their main item the fry. I will definitely make this a regular place.

It only deserves a one star because of the fries. That’s the only thing that is good. Burger is disgusting. Bread was cold so it made your meat seem cold. Don’t waste your money or time here.
