For my 800th Unilocal review, I will explain clearly why these people are Unilocal Royalty. This review follows the original«Best and the Brightest» list from 2010, and its 2013 sequel«Best and the Brightest — Redux» : Elyse L. Well, this one’s easy: 1. She quietly slipped into Austin, and just when we knew her, she quietly slipped out. That’s spiritual. 2. Reading one of her reviews is like reading a very good novel in twenty-seven seconds or less. That’s enlightening. 3. Elyse looks exactly like her photos. That’s refreshing. Wherever her journey takes her next, it’ll be a much better place. Katie P. She’s the best writer no one has ever met, the Emily Dickinson of Unilocal. We all do this stuff for different reasons, but I’ve always sensed Katie does it for the simple pleasure of conveying experience into words, which she does very, very well. And when she wants to, she can be funny as Hell. I imagine sometimes what she’s like in real life, but I really don’t want to know. Why break the spell? Darren B. My problem with most professional critics is they often take forever to make a point, and my problem with most Unilocalers is they often don’t make one. But you’ll know exactly how Darren stands in three-hundred words or less, and you can bank on his ratings. I’m not sure how he’s able to travel around the world reviewing cool places, but I’m sure if Unilocal had a dozen Darrens in every city, they’d have little use for the rest of us. Ashley S. The usual attributes apply: She’s smart, funny, charming, and has little interest in drama. But I think I’ve figured out why Ashley often crosses over into my real world — I’ve apparently been anointed her official Scribe. Whatevs. I don’t argue with Karma. And I won’t belabor this either. It’s all about the daily embrace of life, love, and the courage of your convictions. And when something or someone doesn’t work out, the courage to move on. Why mope & hope? In the five years I’ve known her, since her very first event, Ashley has become oh so much faster, better, and stronger — the real Millennial evolution. And oh yeah, I’m looking forward to her next ten chapters. I know they’ll be as good as the first. Now we’ll move on to the next 100 reviews…
