I am a catastrophic thinker. That fact regarding my thought process comes into play when I write this golden five star review. The reason is because I held on to this unframed painting for about four and a half years before fate and a bit of luck led me to Dan and Austin Art & Frame. The painting was of huge importance/sentimental value to me. When I was twenty one years old I moved from Vermont to a rundown city in Northern California with my thirteen year old sister. I had become her legal guardian. In this Californian city, a very talented instructor at the local college I attended took both my sister and me in and taught us the finer things in life. Art. The art of cooking. Manners. He was both my mentor and a father figure. For two years he helped me raise my sister as a loving and platonic parental figure. That is the background on why this unframed painting is so valuable to me. It was the only tangible gift from this mentor(whose name is Robert Soffian) for my 33rd birthday. I carried this unframed painting from Northern California(where it was presented in a tube in the mail while I was a HSU student) to Austin, Texas. I will be 37 years old this coming November. Over the years it traveled hidden in it’s tube, because I simply gave up hope that this transparent painting of an unorthodox size with mounds of built-in texture could be framed without destroying its beauty, let alone accentuate the artist’s technique. Dan humbled me greatly. He allowed me to chose how I wanted it framed every step of the way. He came up with clever ideas for framing, then asked me what I thought of those ideas. One example he suggested was to add a bit of depth between the museum quality glass to the top of the painting to highlight the texture. He suggested a beige color to make the transparent painting ‘pop’ to the view. Honestly, he made the painting better with his suggestions. Of all my Unilocal reviews, none are more worthy of five stars then this review. I’ve had this painting in my living room now for three days. When I wake up and pass it to make my morning coffee, my day is already off to a great start. I am so happy. So happy that I can only gush at how thankful I am that they put so much thought into something that will be with me for the rest of my life. At first I thought the price was too high, but it was worth every penny. I’ve had other work framed before, but I could not vouch for any company in the past with a painting as complicated to frame as this painting was; with quality and professionalism. Dan exceeded my dreams of having this birthday present framed in a manner to show texture, color, and the quality. Wow. Highly recommended. Hopefully they won’t mind me coming back in the future.

I have attended three Gallery events at Austin Fine Art Gallery, the gallery event division of Austin Fine Art & Frame. Each show has been better then the last, and I have been blown away by the artwork, knowledge, courteousness and upbeat feel of the space. The level of fun they generate at their events on a consistent basis is another reason to make events at Austin Fine Art Gallery a must attend invite that should not be missed. Unbeknownst to many art aficionados, this Westlake gem is not just a high end frame shop, it is also a top notch gallery. In my opinion they have the best collection of fine art, especially new talent and artists on the rise, for sale on a day to day basis any place in Austin, including downtown. For many years they were mainly a framing shop; but a slew of artist connections, great location, and the perfect configuration of their space for showing art made an increased focus on the gallery side of the business a smart move and welcome addition to the Austin Art Scene. Austin Art & Frame is well known as an expert framing operation, and for this they deserve five stars; but I needed to let people who are unaware of their gallery, it too is an amazing place worthy of five stars and a visit to see the incredible artwork hanging on the walls!

I must shout out for Austin Art & Frame! I acquired a vintage poster that needed«just the right» framing. Dan spent the time to work with me with recommendations that produced an impressive outcome! I am enjoying the result every time I look. Bravo! Dan, and many thanks.

I just dropped off an 11“x14″ print that I wanted to get framed, and I had a wonderful first impression. They were in the midst of setting up for an art exhibition when I walked in, but I was immediately greeted by Melissa, one of the owners. I had an idea of what type of frame I wanted, a simple, black, pre-made frame. I was presented with several options, and Melissa made some helpful suggestions(this one really draws the eye to that, etc). I made my selection and was told my framed print would be ready on Monday(2 – 3 days). On their website, it says they have the largest selection of «mouldings, mats, and art anywhere in Central Texas,» and after having been to their store, I can totally vouch for that. If you have anything to get framed, I would definitely trust the expertise of Austin Art and Frame.(It’s located next to Panera Bread on Bee Caves Rd.)
