Here is the first line of Art for the People mission statement: «Art for the People is a gallery and workshop whose purpose is use the arts to help change lives for the better.» Art for the People is a small art gallery in a quant house that was formerly a tattoo studio off of south 1st street. They provide a space for all artists to showcase and sell their artwork. A percent of their sales go back to the community via donations to organizations that support a cause. They are most passionate about ending homelessness. Their efforts include the Mobile Arts and Wishes program & they support the Mobile Loaves and Fishes Community First Village. In addition to displaying and selling art the space is used for events, classes and the 1750 square foot building is available for event rental. I recently attended a class from Austin Learnshop at Art for the People and found the gallery to be gorgeous. The Artisan Market has the greatest gifts created by local artists. They were able to fit the 30+ attendees up with seating and tables. Their set up allowed for a small bar to serve wine and a spread of fruit, crackers and cheese. From the perspective of taking a class here I thought it was perfect for a small group. The best part is Art for the People is they are next door neighbors to Dulce Neve which is a must stop before or after a visit to this local art gallery.
