Kejetia International Market

Not a whole lot to offer here, but the proprietor was very friendly and extremely helpful to me in describing what everything was… In many other markets, questions often annoy clerks… Not here.

The review I wrote immediately prior to this one was about Kantamanto African Market. Therefore, in the interests of equal time I would now like to tell you about another (nearby) Ghanaian grocery in Aurora, Kejetia International Market.
Somewhat smaller and more intimate than Kantamanto, Kejetia (named after a market in the city of Kumasi) welcomes you with a range of items from the former Gold Coast and beyond.
Gaze in awe at the neatly stacked cans of garden eggs (a spherical white vegetable related to eggplants and tomatoes), boxes of real (African) yams, and huge tins of Abe (pureed palmnut pulp). Gasp at the well-​stocked meat fridges, reining you in with fresh flesh. If she has some available that day, why not open the cooler at the back and buy some Kenkey (fermented corn dough, a popular accompaniment to a number of dishes from Ghana, including fried fish) from the affable owner?
Kejetia is basically just around the corner from Kantamanto. Its location is a little hard to describe (it’s sort of behind a carwash, in between Havana and Hanover). But once you see the window with the brightly painted scarlet and yellow letters, you’ll know you can’t be anywhere else. And you’ll remember for your next visit too.
