For the last few months I’ve heard nothing from my nerdy friends except, «You’ve got to check out Animation is Art.» or «Animation is Art has the Portal gun!» Basically my friends are always recounting their experiences with Animation is Art. Finally I decided it was time for me to experience this store for myself. Animation is Art is easy to find. It’s on the northeast corner of Iliff and Peoria in a shopping center that offers a little bit of everything. From the parking lot you can see through to the store as the windows aren’t tinted at all. It looks kind of like an art studio with dozens of picture frames covering the walls. So I get to this place and I hold my breath as I open the door, which I often do when I’m nervous about entering a new place for the first time. My nervousness went away after taking my second step inside and the shopkeeper humbly welcomed me in. So what exactly do they sell at Animation is Art? Animation stuff! Just look at the pictures that others have published on here. Pins of your favorite cartoon characters, manga, plushies, toy models, DVD’s, soundtracks, snacks, sketches and production cells, and a lot of other cool memorabilia that will make your inner child squeal with delight. They even have a corner of the store set up to show animated movies all day. I’ve been following their Twitter feed for a while and I’ve noticed that they often tweet the title of the video that is currently playing at their store. One of the previous reviewers mentioned that it’s «more Disney than animé» I can tell you that this isn’t true. It’s pretty well balanced. I don’t mean to discredit the previous reviewer. Maybe the owners read the review and adjusted their products. Either way, I don’t think that’s a good reason to give one star. I mean, who cares if it’s more Disney than animé? It’s all animation. If they were called Disney is Art and they had a ton of animé, that would be a different story, but it’s called Animation is Art. The only negative thing I came up with is that I was slightly disappointed with their DVD selection. Maybe it’s due to the holiday season, but I felt like they should have had more DVD’s and Blu-rays in stock. I realize that Disney is a huge part of American animation, but there are so many other classic animated cartoons out there. It would have been great if they had sets of old Hanna-Barbera cartoons like Scooby Doo or the Flintstones. There were no Looney Tunes DVD’s, or Animaniacs, or Tom & Jerry, which was all disappointing. Again, maybe this was because of the holiday season, so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and award them 5 stars.
