A really charming stop. Obviously family owned and operated, they greeted us at the door warmly and walked us through the unique ordering process they have in place. Food came out and it was really good. One of the ladies that works there stopped by our table and made small talk with us. She was very sweet. We bough some candy on our way out, and will definitely stop here agian in the future.

I was excited about going here, because all the reviews and a five star rating. I loved the atmosphere of his place. It’s like an antique store and a sandwich shop had a baby. You can actually buy the things on display, which I thought was pretty cool. The food was better than average. I would even say good. I had the Italian sandwich($ 7.50), German potato salad($ 2 for small) and bottle of Coke($ 2). So that’s $ 11.50 for a lunch, sandwich meal! That’s crazy to me! My wife had a club sandwich($ 7.50), small bag of chips($ 1.10), and a sweet tea($ 2 for instant sweet tea). My one daughter had a simple hotdog($ 4), chips($ 1.10) and drink($ 2). The other had grilled cheese sandwich($ 4), chips($ 1.10) and drink($ 2). So, almost $ 12 per adult and $ 8 per child. This place is good, but it isn’t amazing. A normal child hotdog or grilled cheese sandwich should not cost more than $ 2. The kid’s meal should’ve been $ 4 with side and drink. An adult, simple sandwich meal should’ve been $ 8 with side and drink. No wonder there was nobody eating on a Friday at 1:30 pm. I hope this message gets to the owners. If you have a good product, which they do, and sell it at a reasonable price, which they don’t, people will return. There is now way a family of 4 should be paying $ 40 for a meal at lunch. I can go to firehouse subs and eat a better meal with larger sandwiches for $ 25. You would have a lot more customers if the prices were fair. If this were the case, they would have four stars, not five. This place is good, not great.

This was a road trip stop — that we will be talking about for years to come! Maybe the best ruben sandwich I’ve ever had. Warm potato salad and a delicious pickle finished off the plate. This was the most flavorful delicious sandwich plate I’ve had in a while. I did the pastrami ruben and the meat was delicious, kraut was delicious, it was heaven. I’d be in there all the time if I lived nearby. Nice folks and a nice little restaurant downtown. Highly recommend combining it with a walk through the museum next door($ 4 admission!!!).

Without question, this is my new favorite lunch spot. Placing orders over the phone can be a little tricky. Look over the menu and have a solid idea of what you want. Clarify often. The food. Oh my gosh, the food. I had a traditional Reuben, my boss the club, and my coworker the daily special chicken salad sandwich. All three of us got an order of German potato salad, I had the broccoli slaw, and my boss a «sweet slaw.» All of us were raving. Not one thing failed to impress. This is what food should be.

What can I say about Hildebrandt’s? They are an Augusta Institution, around longer than most anything else in this Country, let alone city. If you desire a good, delicious Sandwich, in a good, pleasing environment, then Hildebrandt’s is where you want to go. I have had nearly every sandwich on the menu and each one is absolutely delicious! Their Club Sandwich is THEBEST club you will ever have, their Rachel is heaven in your mouth, and their Pork Chop sandwich is just perfection. If you’re hungry and feel like a good old fashioned sandwich, go downtown and tell Luann and the rest I said hello!

The service here is great. Right when I walked in I was greeted and it being my first time here, the kind man walked me through the menu and made good recommendations. I got the Reuben, it was delicious. I highly recommend this place if you want a good sandwich and an interesting ambiance.

First time in Augusta. Came here as soon as they opened up. Chris is so friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the food and products. Food wise, i got the pastrami on wheat with provolone. My friend got the ‘Hot King Louis’ on white. Both sandwiches were delicious. Its quiet, quaint and perfect for a laid back conversation around Augusta history. Definitely would recommend this to anyone visiting the city!

Just finished up lunch. My girlfriend and I decided to try Hildebrandt’s after reading the reviews on it last night and we were not disappointed! I had the King Louie Hot which included buffalo chicken among 3 other meats. It was great! Not too big, not too small and had great flavor! The little lady had the Rachel which was a turkey Ruben basically and a side of German potato salad. The sandwich was delicious and the potato salad tastes just like my grandmother’s recipe. All in all great food, very nice people and interesting things to look at while you wait as well! Will definitely go again!

I’m brand new to the area and visited this place for lunch this past weekend because of the awesome Unilocal reviews. Let me just say, this place is more than deserving of all the fantastic feedback! The sandwiches were great, but more than that, I could not believe the kindness and friendliness of the staff! WOW! If you haven’t given Hildesbrandt’s a try, do yourself a favor and get over there!(:

Friendliest staff this side of the river and the sandwhiches were both great(the Louis and the Reuben). Love the rustic family feel and look of the shop and would recommend this place to anyone!

I had the Ruben and German potato salad. The Ruben was good, but it was not great. However the potato salad! I could eat that by the truck load! And the customer service was amazing! They repeatedly ask if needed anything. Next though I going to do Lu’s choice, and that is what I recommend. A friend of mine got that and He was not disappointed.

So so so good! I didn’t expect much from here, just thought it would be a decent sandwich place. But oh, was I wrong. This place is fantastic! I got the king Louis Italian version and my husband got the king Louis German, the German potato salad, and peach ice cream. The quality, quantity, and general taste of the sandwiches were awesome. They definitely use quality meats and toppings here! The German potato salad was OUTSTANDING, my only thing is I wish there was a little more for the side option. It was rich and flavorful and the best potato salad I have ever had. Finally, the homemade peach ice cream was unbelievable! It was creamy and sweet(but not too sweet) and had nice bits of peach. The price was about $ 20 for everything. Not bad for a filling lunch. Also, they opened in 1879, so it is an Augustan icon. They have some antiques throughout the store as well as old pictures of the family at the back. It’s a very laid back, no frills place, and it doesn’t need the frills! Not to mention the service was spectacular. The guy at the front is friendly and knowledgeable and loves to talk about the store. I plan on coming here much more in the future because although there are other café /sandwich places in the area, this one is the best by far that I’ve been to. It’s a little off the main downtown area, but worth the visit. I’ve been here a year and feel silly not having come sooner!

So I was here for a fabulous Unilocal event brought together by the equally fabulous Natasha C!!! I know this is crazy but I live three blocks from this place and never set foot in it before until now. I’m kicking myself now because I feel I could have been enjoying their great food a long time ago! This business started out as a general store and they also delivered. Soon after they started preparing food and added a café, which was a great idea. It’s amazing to know that this place has been in existence for over 100 years and still is ran my the same family!!! You just don’t see things like that anymore. The family that runs this place are very friendly and inviting. I was able to have a conversation with Rick, one of the family members, and he was sharing family stories and being very candid. I thought that was very charming. I was able to sample a few items on the menu and they were out of this world. I tried the Reuben sandwich, the King Louis sandwich, the German potato salad, and the chili. All of these items were pretty good, some of them I wouldn’t have tried if they weren’t offered to me and I really liked them. I will definitely be ordering these items when I come back. The items on the menu are really reasonable too. I also tried some desserts that were made by Mrs. Joyce(Rick’s mom), and they were totally delicious!!! I don’t think they are on the menu but she does make them for special occasions. This is a great place to grab lunch and admire all the history inside of this place. You will definitely get a history lesson while dining here and great hospitality as well. I hope this place is around for another 100 years!!!

This place is Augusta history. I drove by this place every day on my way to work and I never really knew what they are about. They have some antiques inside and some convenience store items but make no mistake you will be wanting to come here for some food. I tried their sandwiches, deserts, chili, german potato salad and pimento cheese. The deserts were great, the pimento cheese and sandwiches are solid and the chili and german potato salad are flat out awesome. I ordered the ruben with corn beef and a side of german potato and that will run you around 8.50. I feel the portion is right for the money paid and with the way that it is wrapped its perfect for carrying for lunch, which I cant wait to have for my lunch today. While you are there I strongly suggest you speak with the family, if they have time, to take in the stories of when and how Hildebrandt’s came to be and what exactly certain things really mean, like the bike in the window. Again this is one of the few places that is a true Augusta establishment.

Love this place, the sandwiches are so perfect, like they are made with love. Super friendly service too, and the atmosphere is so unique and kitschy — 135 years old place, with a small general store in front and the deli in the back, peppered throughout with old photos and maps of early Augusta.

I went to this place today for lunch, because I had to try Augusta’s best rated sandwiches! Needless to say I wasn’t disappointed! It’s a little of the beaten path but totally worth it! The décor is antique in a good way. The thing I loved most about this place was the great service and the quality of ingredients they use! I ordered a Hot King Louis and an Italian King Louis and they were amazing! The best part is that you can grab some sandwiches and walk the the Savannah River and have a great picnic! Would recommend this place to everyone who is in the mood for a great sandwich!

Established in 1879. Rustic interior, lots of antiques around. Nevertheless, our 2 sandwiches were excellent! Prices low. Quaint with excellent food. Hildebrandt’s won«Best Sandwich» in 2013. This is not a fast food joint. That is a very, very good thing. So please do not expect fast food turn around times. I had a rueben on rye bread with a homemade hot mustard made by a local octogenarian. The hot mustard kicked the taste of my rueben up at least 2 notches. I was wondering where the spicy hot taste was coming from until I saw the label on the mustard jar while paying. I bought a pint size jar for home. The Italian sandwich was also excellent. There is no sane reason to eat at fast food joints when there is a place nearby with sandwiches this good at such low prices. Show them some love, eat here. You can make up a sandwich also. An aside: At 11:15AM on the Friday we were on 6th St and a freight train(not a trolley) comes down the middle of it; whistles blowing. I never saw such a thing in my life, which is a considerable long time. The kid in me was thrilled. Your kids will be also. See Photo.
