We use to enjoy Frog Hollow in the past. Always had concern with the lack of a «classy» dress code though(seeing patrons with short pants and baseball hats on). Tonight when we visited, they were playing … get this, Blue Grass music. WTF. We hoped for a great meal(which it was) in an upscale place and we had to listen to Blue Grass music? I asked the waiter do they play other music to fit the ambiance and he stated we play Blue Grass, that’s who we are. I will never go there again. Augusta need restaurants that serves great food and drinks; has the ambiance of style, and the patrons can dress business casual and enjoy the evening.

Absolutely amazing! I will be back for the Mac! Stopped here for a night for work. A local friend took my coworker and I here for a cool local food spot. I’m definitely a mac lover and hearing smoked Gouda mac sounded awesome. Little did I know I was in for a treat. This stuff comes more like a piece of lasagna, which is a cool twist on traditional noodles. The cheese was absolutely perfect! This will go down in my book as the best mac n cheese and I think it might take a long time to be beat.

Great food and amazing service. Wait staff is very engaging and recommends perfect wines to go with the different foods. Homemade sausage with brown mustard is incredible. Close second would be the mussels. Favorite is the pork shoulder !!! This is one of the most consistent restaurants in augusta. Thank you for making my dinner enjoyable !!!

Usually love this place, been here several times with my wife and we’ve had great food and service… but, went by myself tonight and was told their was a wait list for the bar when there was 3 open seats. I’m from the DC area and have never waited for a bar seat. After 15 mins I left… so disappointing!

We keep coming back again and again. We’ve tried almost every menu item and all have been delicious. Our very last trip, our food took much longer than we’ve previously experienced, but the manager came out to apologize and it will not stop us from our next trip. Don’t skip on the oysters. They’re always a «special» the waiter will tell you about and won’t be on the main menu, but have been around for months. Extremely delicious. Our favorite plates are the shrimp and grits, pork shoulder, fisherman’s stew, and quail and waffles. If you order the side of fries, I hope you have 4 other people to help you. It’s the largest portion I have ever seen. For dessert, always go with the special. The other oldies are always there: crème brûlée(not the best, it’s too shallow a bowl so it all heats up with the torch. We like ours with a crispy crust as much as the next guy, but prefer the custard cool not warm). The flourless cake is DENSE, they’ll tell you. Perfect with ice cream and once in a while is worth the bulk. The goat cheese cake is nice, not too sweet. I prefer my desserts sweeter than that, but can see the appeal if you don’t. Enjoy!(Don’t forget, order the bottle of wine and take home what you can’t finish! Nice secret!)

If there is any restaurant that deserves more than five stars, it’s Frog Hollow. I came here last night with my husband to celebrate and the service was wonderful. Our waiter was knowledgable, professional and was happy to tell us about their back story and some of his favorite dishes. My husband ordered the pork shoulder and it fell right apart and was delicious. The smoked Gouda mac & cheese is enough to keep me coming back here. I ordered the Tavern Style«Fisherman’s Stew» and there is a good chance I will drool just thinking about this dish for a long time. The chorizo sausage is made in-house and is superb(I use that word sparingly so please understand how good it was) and there was a great amount of mussels and clams and the monkfish pieces in it were quite large. The flavor was perfect and the bread they served was so good dipped in it! Now on to desserts. Let me just preface by saying that I love when menus are by the season. Especially when it comes to desserts. Last night we tried a lemon zest cheesecake made with goat cheese. You may be thinking that the goat cheese would be really odd with it, but it made it light and not as rich as normal cheesecake and was amazing. I love just hearing all their dessert options. To sum it up, this is a perfect place to treat yourself, take someone on a date or show off when someone is in town. You will not be disappointed and can’t wait until the next time I come here!

My priest in NYC is from Augusta, and he told me that I must go to Frog Hollow during my business trip here. I did tonight, and it was an incredible experience. First, the warm and upscale atmosphere is beautiful and exquisite but casual. The service was first rate and in total compliance with all of the hospitality and luxury behaviors that I train with my customer experience clients. I was seated immediately when I arrived with my Open Table reservation. Immediately upon announcing my arrival, the hosts began calling me by name. I asked for the location of the restroom, and one of the servers immediately offered to take me there and pointed the way using an open palm. When I was seated, my server walked up to the table and introduced himself as Frank, and he used my name without me telling him. Very impressive — and he was really great throughout my experience. I was alone, and he didn’t treat me any differently than other guests, and he in fact engaged more. There were a lot of interesting appetizers that I wanted to try, but I decided to limit my meal to the pork shoulder with gouda mac ‘n cheese, collard greens, and onion rings. I chose it because, a) it sounded good, and b) everyone else on Unilocal seems to rave about it. I’m so glad that I did. The collard greens are one of two servings of collard greens that are the best I’ve ever had(the other is at Ruby’s BBQ in Austin). The mac ‘n cheese was delicious but more like a lasagna consistency and squared pasta style. The onion rings, only two of them, were incredible — freshly battered and not overly greasy. The portion was large, so I took a bit home. Great food, solid portions and a reasonable price for such excellent service and a beautiful space. I think I may leave NYC a bit more often, or perhaps just do what my priest tells me to do.

I can not say enough about how awesome this place is. My husband and I went here for our anniversary and it did not disappoint. This is by far the best restaurant in Augusta. I loved the Gouda Mac and Cheese. I wish they had this as a main course. The entire experience was stellar. A great place for a special occasion!

Napping in room 666 made me feel like the princess and the pea, but definitely«pealess.» How many feathery fluffy pillows were there? Hard to tell. Enjoyed them all. Woke up no longer turning Japanese, but feeling quite southern. Long-sleeved black lace mini-skirt baby doll dress inappropriate for the cold. Fashionably insensitive, certainly. Velvet platforms and a long strand pearl necklace. Black feathered purse. The über was waiting. The nicest old man. Knowledgeably Chatty. Just the way I like people. Remember my prior sense of desertion in downtown Augusta? I think people were all hiding from me behind the brick buildings. A conspiracy joke. By 7:00 p.m., the town looked like Whoseville. Frog Hollow Tavern was crowded. I prayed thanking the angel of Open Table for my reservation. We were whisked away immediately and I had no time to take pictures which is a shame because it is trendy, yet cozy. A huge blackboard held the night’s specials(which I could not finish reading, for we were seated promptly.) Walked through rooms which gave me the impression of someone’s house metamorphosed into a cellar looking Spanish tavern. Woody. Long wooden custom made wine shelves ran«limitlessly» along the walls. Dimmed lights. The devil is in the small details, some say. I do too. The server walked in and greeted me on a first name basis. Serious reservation research must have taken place. Loved it. He brought us water and the menu… explained the farm to table concept, the home-made crafting of libations, the intricacies of the four entrées been featured that night. I wanted to try some of the cocktails so I ordered one I can’t recall the name, but it had gin and tea… and it was amazing. Not sweet at all. Great enough to keep. No wine for me tonight. Certainly no whining either. I ordered the Braised Berkshire Pork Shoulder | 22 Smoked Tomato Pork Jus. Smoked Gouda Mac ‘n Cheese. Port Wine & Vinegar Braised Collards. … I want to be fair. This was my mistake. Not theirs for sure. Reader, you know I have candidly told you about my smoked anything phobia. Thank you, Mommy Dearest. The meat fell off. No need for knives and other nuances. It was a very generous portion. Oozing gravy… smoked gravy. Yes. You are right. I played with it as I did those nights when my mother would not let me leave the table until I had finished those hideous smoked pork chops. Good thing that the three cheese macaroni and cheese lasagna(YES! THECHEFIS A GENIUSANDNOW I WANTTOEATTHISASMYVERYLASTMEALONEARTH as well as with each meal since then) rescued me from my thoughts. This cheesy angel rescued me. The collard greens were a wonderful mixture of vinegar and spice. I tasted one of the specials as well… a double pork chop brined during three days, sou vide, pan seared on butter and roasted over sweet potatoes. What can I possibly add other than… please, Reader, stop reading, get a napkin and wipe that saliva off your chin. The dessert list was tempting, but I barely finished my dish for the obvious reasons, and not because it was not delicious. The restaurant was packed. Servers ran around prepping, cleaning, moving tables, rearranging. The manager, a very tall and imposing man, kept walking around as he dictated something to a blond girl with a tiny pad. I had no idea what the stress was about… that was until I walked out of the room… the lobby was packed with people waiting for tables. Understandable. I would have waited mini-skirted in the cold forever. A fashionably insensitive foodie.

Very good food. Always well cooked and fresh. We love the Gouda Mac and Cheese lasagne! I like pretty much everything there from the fish to the braised pork to the lamb, etc. I personally find their sausage a bit salty so I just never get anything with sausage in it whenever I go. I also did not like the The servers are nice and do a good job. They are a place that values their customer as the manager/owner has brought us complementary Mac and cheese for our food taking longer than usual which took us by surprise since we barely noticed since we were enjoying our appetizers, wine, and company. Overall it is nice to have a restaurant of this quality here in Augusta where there are few choices for truly good food(whether it is fine dinning or mom and pop home cooking).

Upscale, and affordable — two words that almost never go together, yet do, here. This restaurant is perfect for date nights, or hosting private groups. Reservations are recommended. I came with a large group, and we had a private room, with individualized menus. The servers did an excellent job taking our orders, and bringing them discreetly. The full wine selection is a plus. The appetizers are great to share, and entrees range around the mid range price, and are great portion sizes. I highly recommend the tomato salad(it is delicious!), as well as the pork shoulder(those onion rings; perfection.) Their smoked Gouda mac & cheese was not a huge hit for me(theirs is similar to a lasagna style vs classic macaroni). Overall, highly recommend!

I was so sad that I came by Sunday night to find out they were closed! It was my last night in Augusta and was hoping to come back. Wah! So. don’t come here Sunday… they’re closed! A few nights before, I had the pleasure of trying their pulled pork. Everyone on Unilocal and their mothers raved how amazing it was so of course, I wanted to try it. This was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. I’m crying inside right now because I don’t know when I’ll be back. :(

Got here when they opened and choose to sit at the bar. Candace was my server and provided first class service. Ordered their signature pork, Gouda Mac n cheese with collard greens. From the service to the food everything was first rate. Mac N Cheese was a party in your mouth!!!

Braised pork shoulder with Gouda Mac and incredible collards paired with a nice Sangiovese and you have a perfect evening. Just perfect. The onion rings were good but the weakest part of the plate… a little too dense… The bread was nice and fresh as well. All in all one of the best meals I have had lately.

Excellent cocktails and starters. We dined at Frog Hollow last week and had a wonderful experience. Their cocktails are fantastic as are their starters. As it was our first time, I asked our server«What are you known for?». She replied that they are known for their Berkshire Pork«BBQ» and that it always stays on the menu. I wish I tried something else. While the entrée was good, it did not wow me. I had higher expectations given that this restaurant is known as the best in town. I don’t fault the restaurant, I fault myself as I should have gone for a more sophisticated option instead. Lesson learned: Don’t go to a high end dining restaurant for a barbeque option. However the rest of the dining experience from the ambiance, the service, the cocktails, starters, and dessert were all excellent. I will return someday… but not for the pork.

Frog Hollow is just about the best experience you can get of its kind in Augusta. The service is inpeccable, the menu is innovative, and everything I had was better than the last. These include: Whiskey aged in their own barrels, in house. Fantastic duck sausage fried in duck fat. Oyster rockerfeller with a unique, memorable blend of cheeses Mussels in wine sauce, fresh, briny, paired with amazingly crispy bread. Duck leg, a sort of southern rendition of duck confit, juicy and tender with excellent flavor and an epic serving of southern greens. Lasaugna style mac and cheese, very filling and a house classic Pecan pie with fresh ice cream. Too good. All in all, my review just echoes the praise of all the other ones. Bottom line, find an occassion, an excuse, anything, and go check it out!

Frog Hollow Tavern is one of the«fancier» and more modern spots in Downtown Augusta. Parking outside can be a bit challenging. The restaurant itself is very spacious with a decent-sized full bar to the left and plenty of seating to the right, with additional rooms with even more seating, probably for large groups. That being said, they can probably accommodate decent-sized groups, but make sure you call ahead of time and make a reservation, no matter how big your party is as this place can get quite busy. Service was nice — lots of Southern hospitality all around. Our waitress was very nice and attended to all our needs. My only complaint is the amount of time between courses(10+ min to get appetizers, 15 – 20 min to get entrees). Free bread(multigrain and white) and butter to start off your dinner. We started off with the clams in broth — the clams were large in size and the broth was very flavorful. I wasn’t a fan of the charred sourdough bread as I thought it was too oily and the it made the consistency of the bread a strange state of in-between soft and crispy — kind of like stale bread. Loved the broth and the fact that the bacon didn’t overpower it. I got the last clam, which was closed. I pried it open with my knife and black mud exploded all over my plate. I’ve never had clams that had mud in them at any restaurant(and I love clams), but I suppose its understandable. However, if I were the cook and knew there would be a chance of these«muddy clams», I wouldn’t serve them. Apparently this is a known issue. The manager and waitress addressed our problem promptly and took the clams off our check, which was really nice of them. I had the shrimp and grits. The grits were of perfect texture and creamy… so good. There was a good amount of fresh shrimp on top as well that were cooked perfectly — I hate overcooked shrimp. The sauce surrounding the dish was a nice complement. The only part I didn’t like about the dish was the extremely salty slices of sausage — way too salty and I only had half of one slice. Otherwise, great dish. I had a couple bite of my boyfriend’s dish — the black angus steak with potatoes and kale. The kale was really cheesy/creamy… I’ve never had«unhealthy» kale before so that was interesting. The steak was perfectly cooked and marinated with an amazing sauce. We got the apple bread pudding with homemade vanilla ice cream for dessert… which was just okay. Maybe a little too dense for the end of the meal and didn’t calm my sweet tooth. Overall, one of the better places for fine dining in Augusta, that’s for sure. PS: the description for this business states the dress code is «classy»… ehhh… pretty sure most people were in regular clothes.

I’ve been dying to try Frog Hollow for ages. It finally worked out last night and I had a lovely girl’s night. I made a 7:15 reservation and the table was ready when we arrived. It was actually quieter than I thought it would be on a Thursday night. The hostesses and the servers were very friendly. They’d already gotten my friend a glass of wine while she waited for me to arrive. Once we were seated we told the staff we were in no hurry, the waitress had no problem with this, took our order and then spread our meal out over the next 90 minutes. It gave us time to catch up and really enjoy the food. We ordered the andouille sausage appetizer, which was excellent. My friend also had the wedge salad. It looked very good and she said it was. These were both«small plates» but definitely enough for two girls to share, and not quite finish. For entrées I ordered the braised pork shoulder with the Gouda mac and cheese and Brussel sprouts. I really liked everything but the brussel sprouts, and I love brussel sprouts. They had not done a good job preparing them, and they were a bitter. Me friend had steak, I’m not sure which one. I had a bite and it was delicious. It came out a little to rare for her tastes. But she said it was fine. We were pretty full after our small plates and ended up with to go boxes and skipping dessert. I’m glad I finally had the opportunity to dine here, and look forward to going back.

I made reservations over a month in advance for our anniversary dinner because it is tough to get into Frog Hollow Tavern without them on a Saturday night around 7pm. I was excited to return as my previous dining experience was spectacular. This time, however, I was slightly disappointed. We were seated quickly since we had the reservations, and our server was timely as well with waters. He provided us with the specials to assist with our food and wine choices. We ordered a bottle of wine and the Eggplant Fries as appetizer. The wine was great. The eggplant fries, in my opinion, were very greasy and I barely tasted the eggplant. Granted, they are«fries» so panko-crusted and deep fried was expected, but the minimal amount of eggplant was a let down. The basil aioli was tasty, but needed more basil flavor. For entrees, I ordered the NC Swordfish with vegetable ratatouille and my husband got the duck breast with broccoli and red beans. Additionally, we got a side of the Gouda mac and cheese, which for me ended up being the best part of the meal. My Swordfish was a bit dry, so I don’t know if it rested too long after being plated(the ratatouille wasn’t hot). The taste was still good, but temperature could have been better. My husband enjoyed his duck and the bite I had of it was very good. My main disappointment of the evening was the time the food took to arrive after the appetizer(45+ minutes). The table beside us was seated after us and were onto dessert(after bread, salads and entrees) before we were served our entrees. We were not offered bread to munch on after our appetizer was eaten. The server didn’t stop by to offer an explanation; we stopped him to ask as he was going between tables. Luckily it showed up a couple minutes later. I suppose when we are spending $ 100+ on a meal, I expect a little more. One final note, we will definitely return to Frog Hollow because it is still one of the best restaurants in Augusta. We’ve had excellent experiences in the past so we’re hoping this one time is an exception.
