Whether you eat in the charmingly outdated 1950’s pizza«parlor» in the front or opt for the 1960’s-style basement rec room/bar in the back, you’ll be comfortable here. But, let’s be frank, unless you really have high nostalgia for authentically outdated places(NOT modern«theme”-based restaurant throw-backs) you should be prepared to be impressed with the food and nothing but the food. Alas, gone are the days when we’d walk in and see Tary himself sitting at a corner table with an old friend, shucking fresh garlic for the kitchen and sipping a little Bola. But his spirit and talent for turning out an incomparably perfect crust is carried on to this day by his affable and smiley son-in-law, Tim. Once you stop and say hello to Tim, tossing dough behind the glass, you’ve got a friend for life. He simply couldn’t be nicer and his truly warm smile will melt your mozzarella. Tary’s could be easy to miss, so instead, look for the R&N market right next door. At least they have a lighted sign. I’ve never seen Tary’s sign lit in 30 years. No one seems too concerned about those little incidentals that have nothing to do with the f o o d. It has a full bar and a – shall we say – interesting bartender. I can only guarantee that he grows on you. There’s even quite an extensive beer garden right out the back bar door. Don’t misunderstand, all of the food at Tary’s is very good. But, people who never knew what REAL pizza was until they stumbled into Tary’s, can’t ever bring them to order anything else. If you ask for your pizza well done, you’ll get that wonderful charred crust that you can only get in Brooklyn and parts of NJ and CT. Try all the varieties at least once until you settle on a favorite. The reason you see TV ads for chain pizza touting all the toppings, always the toppings, is because they fail miserably at the most important part of any pizza worth its crust – the CRUST. You can’t deliver half-risen dough in a truck, spend half an hour trying to teach a high school student how to toss the dough, stick it in an electric oven at a temperature that would only succeed in making Sylvester Stalone hot, and expect anything really, really good to come of it. It’ll never happen. Look, just Go to Tary’s. And if you find the edge crust too filling, DON’T leave it behind. Do what we do– save it and have it with your morning coffee. You’ll thank me for it.

I have been eating here since I was a child. My great grandpa was friends with the owner. The best pizza in the area by far. So for 40 years I have only had the antipasto and the dominicos pizza. Crazy. I’ve never strayed from that. Haha. But I love this place. It’s been part of my family my whole life.

Stopped in on my way through town for the Friday home made clam chowder. Thick and full of goodies. Very warm and tasty. Hits the belly really well. Not the absolute best I’ve had but pretty close. If it were hotter(temperature-wise) and a touch more butter. It would have felt like I’d died and gone to heaven! Server was great. She made sure my to-go order was correct and packed right because I have another 90 minutes to go before I get to enjoy my lasagna! This place makes awesome food and service is spot-on. Good people! I will absolutely be back to Tary’s!

Great place for PIZZA! It is a mom and pop operation, nothing fancy, but the PIZZA is GREAT! and the beer is cold. I’ll be back.

We went for dinner, was very warm inside, a few weeks ago. Waited ½ hour for pasta plates, no salad variety to choose from, it was a Monday night. After realizing that my plate went to the wrong table the waitress asked if I minded still taking it the customer had not touched it yet. We’ll never go back, also over priced.

Okay this is solely on the Italian we had here… The pizza is actually pretty good… Not gonna lie. But as for the Italian food here I suggest going else where… My husband and I came here to try it out. Worst decision ever… Oh my gosh the food was really awful… We didn’t even finish… We couldn’t.. But we will come for the pizza. Pizza only.

My second visit to Tary Boscolo’s. I was the only person in the restaurant when I arrived, just like the first time. But as the evening progressed, the place slowly filled up until it was packed with diners. It became so noisy inside we had to shout to be heard across the table. I ordered some garlic cheese bread while waiting for my friends to arrive. It arrived a little after my dining companions did. The bread was searing hot and crunchy fresh out of the oven. It was also very garlicky and very cheesy. Absolutely excellent! This time we ordered the Domenico’s pizza. It took a while for our pizza to arrive again. When it did appear, the center dough was not crispy like it was on the Garbage pizza from my first visit. But the crust was excellent. I ate it with the meat that had fallen off the slice. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive, they refilled our drinks regularly. I want to come on a Wednesday next time so I can try the Happy Hour fried calamari rings.

This place is worth the drive! Great service, great food. Garbage pizza was so good with the garlic and 11 toppings. Their bread is real garlic bread. Very welcoming and it was entertaining watching them spinning pizzas. Need to try if in or out of the area.

My friends and I stopped here for a bite and were quite surprised at what we found. Pulling in, didn’t seemed like a run down drive-in burger joint, but going in and seeing the bar and back yard was pretty cool. The pizza is delicious and the crust is nice and crispy! Service is great and employees are great, try the orange Rita!

Great place to have a large gathering! We’ve been to several parties held here. Plenty of room on the patio in the back. Great food and atmosphere!

This place is definitely a hidden gem in the tiny town of Atwater, CA. If you are craving restaurant style pizza or some fried ravioli then this is the only place you can get it in this neck of the woods! The food is great quality, customer service can be slow sometime but it doesn’t bother the owners because they have been doing this for a very long time. They do have a bar in the back and cool happy hour menu! They even have a patio in the very back that you can book for an event! Overall we need more places like these in Atwater and Merced.

I can only really speak to their garbage pizza, which admittedly I’ve only had once. It was excellent and I say that as someone who doesn’t generally like toppings — any toppings — let alone LOTS of toppings. From the outside the place seems a bit divvy but inside it feels like a basic Italian restaurant. Service was good and I’m looking forward to my next visit.

After reading the AAA rave review I brought my whole family here on a Wed night. We got there and it wasn’t crowded so got a table right away. The food was average at best and the service was some of the worst in my life. There were eight of us and we wanted to try a variety of things so we ordered the garlic bread, the fried ravioli and four pizzas. The garlic bread was just melted mozzarella on toast, the raviolis weren’t actually fried but instead just sauteed until they were a little crispy in a pan and the toppings fell off the pizza as we tried to dish it up. As a basis for comparison I consider Pizza Plus to be really good pizza and Round Table is my favorite chain. The best pizza I’ve ever had was at Tony’s in SF’s Little Italy. I honestly thought this pizza would be good based on the reviews here and the article in AAA. It wasn’t even good for Atwater. The waiter pretty much ignored us until we asked for things(like plates for the appetizers he had brought 10 minutes earlier and grated cheese for the pizza) and then he would sigh or walk off without a word. We were there 90 minutes so I don’t think it’s unreasonable to want a refill on a drink in that time but he seemed so angry when we asked. About 25 minutes after we were done eating the check hadn’t come so I went to the counter to request it. I then asked to speak to the manager. I explained to her that the service was so horrible that we genuinely felt unwelcome and that while I normally tip 20−25% I felt like we should have received a discount let alone leave a tip. She immediately got defensive saying they were just really busy. I said I understood but that I had worked in customer service and it takes no extra time to smile while you are doing something and that maybe just on accident he could have said one thing that wasn’t hostile or annoyed or even outright sarcastic(when my sister ordered the fourth pizza he said«ANOTHER one? you guys already got THREE pies…» while rolling his eyes). Then the waiter himself came over and started saying how he was just really busy and they both started going on and on about it. I said that I wouldnt be back and only bothered to say something to explain why there wouldnt be a tip. If you’re craving subpar food from LCD employees skip Tary’s and hit the food court at Costco. You’ll save yourself a lot of time and money.

Pizza crust was amazing, food was fresh and delicious. Ravioli was reminiscent of Original Joe’s. Washed down with 805! Friendly staff… Couldn’t have asked for better.
