For Father’s Day 2008, my dad’s request was that I attend his church with he and my mom. I agreed and I actually felt comfortable. I appreciated the reverent service. I don’t feel comfortable at churches with a charasmaic worship style. The pastor is an older man named Bob Hett. I enjoyed his personal stories that tied in with Father’s Day. He talked personally to several of the men in the congregation, including my dad. After the service, I told my folks that I enjoyed it, felt comfortable, and wouldn’t mind coming back. My wife and I participated in pre-marriage counseling with Pastor Bob and he married us in September of ’09. Earlier in the year, the pastor, along with my fiancée at the time, planned a 50th anniversary event at the church. Their loved ones came to the morning church service and filled up the place. Afterwards, we had a reception in the church’s modest function hall. We attend the church about once or twice a month, as it’s an hour from where we live. It’s a small church with mostly older folks, but they’re a caring and welcoming group.
